One constant that I keep hearing throughout this entire playoff run is how incredible the 3rd and fourth-line players have been for the teams that have been moving on. I'm starting to think that this is a lot more important than we in Buffalo may have thought. It also shines a light on how absolutely pathetic ours have been for the last 10 years.

With Skinner, a successful coaching hire, a real goalie, and a 2nd line center, I would not claim it as miraculous if that happened. That's a lot to ask though.....

Botteril has put his entire career on the line with this hire so he obviously must have faith in him. Personally, the only guy (Coach and GM) between the Bills and the Sabres that I think is a rock-star is Beane. McDermott is growing on me but we will see. Past Sabres coaches and GMs have been a mess and if this team does not compete for 8th spot all year round, Botteril is as good as gone.

From everything I have read, Buffalo seems to be the PERFECT project for him. Turn around the biggest loser in the league, who just so happens to have some legit superstar youth. It's not like he is taking over during the 1st year of the tank, he would be putting on the finishing touches and get all the credit. Sounds like a perfect for both sides....

The way I see it is that a first time coach is going to think this place will be the death knell for him in 2 years. It's like killing your career before it even begins. This team is 3 years away from the playoffs and no way is a rookie coach going to get that long of a leash.
