Here's an interesting scenario I thought of Ristolainen & Girgs for Rakell & Kesler(50%) + a 3rd in 2022
-
I'm getting the sense that this massive number of RFA's is causing anything that may have been done since the Draft to be put on the back burner. Is this our roster come opening night; I'm certain a guy will be sent to Rochester to get under the cap at least.

Someone put the old Sabres-Sens Brawl's entire game on YouTube Why am I mentioning this here? Because this is where culture and skill meet. Culture has become some kind of amorphous buzzword but what it really should encapsulate is the unity of a team's players. Skill is vital to a successful team but so is this unity where everyone from skill players to 4th liners play for each other and fill whatever roles they need to for the betterment of the team. Just look at Drew Stafford, he was never a truly great player, and never was all that physical but when his teammates were attacked he would fight anyone to stand up for them. One thing that worries me about trading Risto is, beside Eichel being known to get rough with those who try to hurt Reinhart, our sheer lack of any physical presence and our lack of non-physical players actually playing out of their element when the situation demands it. If Eichel or Skinner were headshot by a grinder who on this team would actually chase said player down? Its not a fact of winning the fight; its the showing that you give a damn and no one goes after our captain or one of our stars. Now you don't want them to fly off the handle, but in the situation above you need players throughout the lineup to play just that much more physical. That doesn't mean we need grinders and fighters; it just means we need the guys like the Shearys and Veseys to throw a body check and not play scared. I disagree, a good culture will make a mediocre team good. It's when a skilled team, that has a unified front, comes to the ice that you see Stanley Cup contention. Culture is the mortar on the bricks(players) which forms a wall. Winning and success is said mortar drying and solidifying. A skilled team with no mortar is merely a pile of bricks; it can stand on its own but give it enough of a push and it will topple. The Sabres problems can be summed up as having badly made bricks, nice bricks, limited mortar, and little to no dry weather.

I'd offer Girgs and Scandella (50%) for Frolik and their 2021 3rd
-
Scandella played well his first year and Pommers had his moments. Having a plan fail to pan out is different than doing nothing.

Get Smart right? Before my time but I liked Inspector Gadget so my mother watched reruns of Get Smart when they were on TV

ERod -- 1 yr, $2MM, after being > $1 million apart in arbitration
thewookie1 replied to Ho-Chi-Sock's topic in The Aud Club
Ugh, ERods thread was hijacked after a few funny stereotype jokes about the French. They are a solid ally, but their military has been a joke many times in history. The French Resistance on the other hand kicked ass. I am a tad confused though how a talk about a US player and a Czech ended up talking about politics and the French. -
For the many who wanted a #1 goalie, I’d like to know from where? We’d have to trade assets for one. And trade Ullmark/Hutton for it to make any sense.
-
No thank you unless you mean Casey Nelson.
-
We can but I have no interest in doing so with any player of note. There is little worse than making a significant trade with a division rival and coming out the loser.

RNH & Kassian for Risto & Sheary (450k retained) Cap Neutral Any thoughts? Skinner - Eichel - Reinhart Olafsson - RNH - Vesey Johansson - Mitts - Okposo Larsson - ERod - Kassian Dahlin - Montour McCabe - Jokiharu Pilut - Miller Extras: Wilson, Girgs, Hunwick Bought out Scandella, buried Sobotka
-
He strikes me as Risto's opposite in terms of analytics. Risto's are below what he appears to be while Gardiner's are way to high. I've watched him plenty of times, and this graph goes completely against my own eyes which means something isn't right.
-
I’d be interested in a few forwards from Anaheim: Rakell, Silverberg, even Getzlaf if it’s fair. Not at all interested in Gardiner, he’s Risto with no physicality and a bit better zone exit ability.

I'd still like Boyle for his off-ice and 4th line usefulness but that's it.

Sabres Signing Marcus Johansson 2 years 4.5 Million AAV
thewookie1 replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
At the price we got him for, I think its a solid move. We now, at minimum, have a solid fallback option at 2C which is better than just holding onto the hope we'd magically get a 2C for free. -
I’d rather keep Risto in that case; we don’t need another undersized streaky winger.
-
The problem with Gusev is we would need to acquire at least one other Russian. For whatever reason, Russians travel in groups in the NHL. They all strangely go to teams with other Russians.
-
I’m unsure what this would even be regardless of how much I want to believe your “source” Who do they have on the trade block actually worth our attention?
-
I would of been willing, if we had our 3rd, to go up to the next level with 2 1sts and offer him 9.9mil with the same style of stacking bonuses. A 1-2 punch of Eichel and Aho would do damage
-
Hope not, we need teams around us to get weaker, not stronger
-
I want no part in Hoffman Trochek on the other hand would be a great target as he's coming off a somewhat down year with an injury.
-
How about a 2 year deal to help mentor Dahlin? Anything within 2 years is fine to me as Dahlin's contract will be after that.
-
I would of made that deal, a 1st is never something you turn down for paying 6mil in cap space for a year
-
Would #31, Nylander, and Girgs be enough for Collin Miller and Stastny and Reaves(Cap dump) maybe? It does take approx 12mil off their books a tad over 10 with a Girgs signing.

Your predictions: what is Botterill going to do?
thewookie1 replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
I wouldn’t trade Mitts for Cerelli straight up even; I can’t trust his stats on a juggernaut offensive team would translate to Buffalo. I have 0 interest in trading Risto in the division so that further puts the breaks on that trade in my opinion. My predictions: We trade Risto and Nylander to Vancouver for Virtanen, 10, a late pick in a year or two and Juolevi. That just sounds very Benning + Botts esc. C. Miller and Reaves/Clarkson for our 2020 2nd Scandella is sent somewhere for a 3rd in 2021 and a 4th this year. Sobotka is dealt for Callahan and a 4th
