The Avs trade brought them a good player, the Winnepeg trade brought in a good player but he probably traded more then he should have for it. The problem was they didn't draft well with what they had and haven't made any really good signings to help out either The Oilers have had a bunch of top 5 picks, that didn't help much. Arizona has had a bunch of top picks, still basement dwellers. Picks, no matter where they are aren't guarantees for any success, whats needed is having someone who can find and get players where ever they pick I do think one of the biggest mistakes made by the previous GMs is their lack of interest in the Goaltending position. Maybe its because they have been lucky enough to have franchise goalies in Hasek and then Miller. Right now, outside of Ullmark, do they really have a decent goalie prospect in the pipeline? Goalies can make or break a team, and they can also look great one year and average the next. Its never a bad thing to have a few good ones in line.

Well when the Sabres get one of the best players of all time to go along with one of the best coaches (atleast in many opinions) then it makes it very easy to do as you say. As for the leadership, you can't just go and find young leaders, those guys just aren't available. And most look at leadership as something gained through experience. They aren't bad because they have Pomminstein, they are bad because they don't have better talent ahead of him to push him to a lower role........

bit have those players that are going to be here when the team is in contention been born yet? Or at least started skating in timbit hockey? All good teams have a mix of veterans and youth. You still need to ice a team every year and can't keep waiting foe that magical time when everything aligns and you can then add veterans.

Well theres only one way that works, Buff for kane. They can throw in Hutchinson, and maybe Schiefle too since they can win without him...... Apparently they have like 4-5 goalies in development there, from what I read that is probably their strength when it comes to trade chips this year. They may need to look for someone for this season if Smith is out long term, but they won't be looking for a "goalie of the future" cause apparently they have a couple of those already.

they just lost to the Sabres this week. How much more desperate can a team get? Last night they had to have a miracle happen and score 4 goals on a minute PP just to get back into a game to win in OT. Picking up a goalie at the deadline isn't going to just this team or make them worse

I think this is a different situation though. Both goalies are playing poorly and I doubt they get much worse trading for an upgrade. Sticking with them will almost guarantee an early exit from the playoffs, if they even make it there.

I think it had more to do with not wanting to drop as far as 4th in a year where they were almost guaranteed 1st or 2nd. I think Eichel will end up in the Tavares level of players, which is the rung below McDavid & Crosby. A #1 overall pick in most drafts but not a generational talent that you should gut your roster and throw games in order to obtain.

it's true, most of the winter sports would be costly and also require you to either live or travel to certain areas to train. Hard to get into luge or bobsled living in Saskatchewan (flat prairie land). Cheapest sport might be curling or speed skating. But how many areas have those facilities to train in? You can train almost anywhere to be a runner or swimmer.

Snow says he is fine with his current goaltending tandem "Halak perform.s well in the playoffs and was one of the best in the world cup last year, and Greiss was the reason the did well I the playoffs 2 years ago" (not his exact words but pretty close) This is from a goaltender who played in an era where they had to wear masks. Does anyone remember him having issues with taking too many snapshots to the helmet? May want to sue his old helmet manufacturer. He may be the only one who thinks their tandem works (and I'm including Halak and Griess)

Logically, the islanders don't need him and need goaltending, but it's snow in charge so there's a good chance their one big move will be acquiring Kane. It could work, just have to continue to score more then you can let in! I wouldn't be surprised to hear that in any deal the Islanders are looking to make they are dangling Ho-Sang in it. Just sounds like someone they need to move on from. He has the potential but needs the supervision/guidance to help him mature so he wouldn't be a great candidate for here or to room with Kane (I can picture him as a Kane type clone where attitude/maturity is going to be the knock on him and hold him back)
