The Score App in Canada just sent out a message that the islanders are in talks with the Sabres right now
-
at 32 years old, this would be the first season Hutton would have played more then half a season if he plays 50 games.....
-
ok, then we can compare the Leafs move with the other forward the Sabres signed today......
-
and which one of those teams made the playoffs and which one was out by thanksgiving?
-
yeah, the last thing a GM of a last place team should be doing is making moves to try and improve his team. it's more amazing how everyone forgets how excited they were for the Sabres to make those moves because those were guys the same fans trashing them now thought they should have been making.

TRADE: Matt Hunwick and Conor Sheary to Buffalo per Friedman

legally the lawyers wording covers more then your wording. The reason they used that wording is so it covers anything less than 9 AND if it ends up at 9. Your wording would cause issues if it ended up 9 because is 9 less than or greater then itself? A good lawyer will word things so there is little to no debate over the result. It's either black or its white, no gray area -
Carter Hutton signs with Sabres — $2.75MM x 3 years

not really, some seem to think the Ullmark would be the starter or that they would be a tandem splitting starts -

the talk is the entire reason he chose Buffalo is it's where he will get to be the #1. It was reported that he had 3 teams he chose where he could be the #1 guy and the rest were back or 1B roles. He is here to be the starter, Ullmark is the backup until he can beat him out and win the job.... -

Hutton just looks like he has Bust written all over him. The typical looked good as a backup, looks mediocre or worse when given a contract and a starting job. He has played in only 30 games the last 2 years (32 last year) and his highest was 40 games 5 years ago. He looks more like a good backup guy to sign, but unknown if he can handle a full season -
in order to disappear from the playoffs, they would have to make the playoffs first, theres a good chance he could sign a deal where playoffs performance wouldn't be an issue here.....

except he would be the #1 or at worse #1A guy. He isnt going to be behind Ullmark unless he blows everyone away in TC -
yup, I believe top 5 pick also

So does JBotts get credit for drafting CHLers now? Or does he move them this offseason now since they became CHLers? LOL I like these moves if they get to play there, might get to see them play when they come to play Niagara

they needed cap space and in order to get it had to give up something good, it was probably a package deal that both went together so they could make the move and get a decent pick back -
I dont find it that hard to believe that the 3rd pick wasnt involved, and i dont think anything is being made up to save face. It's not hard to believe that a deal was in place that had the Sabres getting either #11 or 12 from the islanders and that the islanders were just waiting to get closer to the pick to pull the trigger, but when things started falling their way they backed out of the deal. I doubt they expected the guys they really wanted to fall to them so they got i to this deal but when those players dropped they decided to keep the pick instead.

Had to move that 4th round pick, heard he and Eichel didnt get along and wasnt a good locker room guy.... Wonder of JBotts got a 'former Pens' discount in an agreement to help them out? you would hope they have the deal in place now so they know what they have to fill and work with in a few days instead of making a move and seeing the better UFAs already gone

from what I had read they never mention Montreals 3rd in a deal, only a 1st from the Islanders and the deal was set to go until the Islanders backed out cause they wanted the players that dropped to them that they took. Otherwise this deal makes no sense because the reason Montreal sends Pac to the Isles is so they can send one of their 1st to Buffalo. I think they are overvaluing what they think the Sabres will settle on in a deal for ROR. I think that the big haul they end up accepting is not going to be as big as what fans are valuing what he will get in a trade. Hopefully the intent if they get picks and prospects is then to flip some for NHL ready players instead of stock piling the farm some more
-
I think people will be disappointed in the return that the Sabres take for ROR if he is moved. It's not going to be what everyone wants or thinks they should get, like what happened with the Kane deal to SJ last season
-
everything I've seen/read said the best pick they were going to get was one of the Islanders firsts (11th or 12th) and not Montreals 1st. The Sabres were getting picks and maybe prospects back. The deal only fell through because of the players that dropped to the Islanders and they were the ones who canceled the deal. People are going to be really disappointed in what the return will be for ROR in a trade, they wont be getting what everyone is hoping for (similar to the Kane deal). And I dont think the Sabres are actively shopping him or want to move him. Teams are interested in him and the Sabres will love him for the right price as they will almost all of their players right now.

the whole Detroit goalie situation was an odd one. First Howard's the #1, then Mrazek came around and Howard was potentially going to be moved, then he took back the #1 spot and they moved Mrazek. Still think he can get back to being a good #1 in the league. Wouldn't expect him to compete for the Vezina, but good enough to not worry about goaltending until Ullmark takes the job from him.
-
I like him, and Bernier. Both arent too old and have had some success as backups to be looked at as potential #1s. Although I worry that Berniers to me in Toronto destroyed his potential like most goalies that have gone there. Both could be potential #1s if they can get back to the way they were a few years ago and would pressure Ullmark into starting right away. If they want to go older veteran, I would talk to Ottawa about Anderson
-
hes going to Toronto, they made him a video!

difference is that Kane and Hamilton have actually been living up to some of their potential and been good players, Duclair has only shown flashes or glimpses of what be may be able to do. Teams seem to be willing g to give up on him for little to nothing while Kane and Hamilton are getting moved for other talent in trades. as much as I believe they should be trying everything to bring in additional talent, I dont think I would bring him in here. This franchise does not have a lockerroom/culture strong enough to bring in someone who may need a strong room and leaders to get his head on straight. It's one of the biggest things they need to do this offseason to try and get things turned around here to get so.e real leaders who can change the atmosphere and culture around. I doubt Duclair would last or be any different of a player if he was brought into this environment right now.
-
Hamilton and Kane were also moved as part of bigger deals. Duclair has practically been given away. And Kane was only moved by the Sabres cause he was an upcoming UFA and they weren't going to sign him to the deal he wanted. If they could have re-signed him to a fair deal they would have. Duclair keeps getting chances because of his rookie year Nd a couple brief flashes, but he also has a reputation that is causing teams to think he isnt worth the roster spot
