  1. The league has Buttman. The N.H.L.P.A. has Fehr. Seems like a tradeoff to me. As I said before if they switched sides they'd still do the job to the best of their ability. its what they're paid to do. How can anything less be expected of the players union?
  2. Hopefully the Amerks powerplay is a good sign for the future of the sabres powerplay. They seem to have it going on down there. Hopefully Ruff is filling his notebook.
  3. Have to admit I enjoyed Rick splitting hairs with the machete on the prison mouthpiece.
  4. You go into battle you want the strongest possible leader unless you want to lie down. Despite what everyone seems to be saying here, I can't for the life of me understand why the N.H.L.P.A. should simply lie down and take their lumps. In that line of thinking they should do the same and just give up every time their collective agreement expires. Please sir, more soup. After the last C.B.A. the union knew exactly what the owners would bring to the table. They knew the owners would go for the throat and show no quarter. Thats exactly what the owners did. The union hired the best possible leader they could find going into this negotiation. I commend them for that.
  5. Its about time Arod suffered some humility. It was almost imperceptible but I think I saw his head shrink just a little bit during that series.
  6. I agree with your assessment. The older real bluesy stuff like tres hombres and rio grande mud to name a couple were so much better than their stab at the mass market. Getting back to what got them here is sounding good. I recently read a good interview with Billy Gibbens and Dan Auerbach of the Black keys in Rolling Stone where they discuss all the old american blues greats and their styles and in particular what it was about those guys that originally got them interested in the blues. A real good read.
  7. I remember something to that effect but obviously I had the sides mixed up. Doh ! My bad. Bun
  8. Thats the way I remember hearing it but to be honest I don't have a source so...I suppose without clarification its a moot point. What got under my skin today was word that the league only took 10 minutes to peruse the 3 counterproposals then shut down negotiations. Hopefully the talks continue.
  9. I suppose the same could be said about the leagues refusal to begin negotiations during the season last year. Put Buttman on the players side and Fehr on the leagues side and it wouldn't make a lick of difference. These guys go to bat for their employers and are paid to squeeze the other side. I believe what Dudacek said above and if I interpreted it right they are both following a script or template if you will in how this is conducted. The proposal on Tuesday from the league was the first negotiating that side has done. The first proposal was simply a shot across the bow and did little else but bring the players fighting instinct out. The players have put forth numerous proposals on how they think the league could fix the game including 3 more today. I ain't picking sides but I do know it takes two and they're both to blame for how this has gone.
  10. Fehrs press conference was very interesting in how he broke it all down. If you haven't heard it its worth a listen to get the Players perspective. I'd find the linky but I gotta go.
  11. Apparently the league has allowed time for a training camp of sorts in their latest proposal if the N.H.L.P.A. accepts the proposal on time.
  12. I agree with this. The N.H.L. in my mind was losing the pr war and now it seems they win either way this goes. Players accept they win, players turn it down they win. Players would be wise to accept this offer or perhaps this offer with some tweeks and get back on the ice.
  13. Well the old farmer is starting to look more and more like a pirate.
  14. Amusing that Penn State played his final words to the court over the university radio station. I'm not sure if its accurate but thats what I heard today. I can't for the life of me figure out why they would. Of course he denied everything and never took ownership for his crimes. Claimed it was all a conspiracy. Enjoy your cellmate Mr. Sandusky.
  15. Mmmm, Thanksgiving Turkey dinner with all the trimmings and surrounded by family. Awesome.
  16. Anyone hear there's a movement ( supported by Martina N ) to eliminate the grunts and screaming from women's tennis. To be honest I really like the back and forth of it. Thoughts ?
  17. How bout we put an end to this thread once and for all. Although it has been highly entertaining.
  18. So the elite U.F.A ( or doctor ) shops his services, signs a new deal and then gets told by his new employer he's going to take a 24% paycut whether he likes it or not. Not what I'd want to hear from my new employer after negotiating my shiny new contract.
  19. Well it should embarrass the owners. 2005 was and this is a lockout. Lets not forget that the players have been locked out. I wouldn't expect anyone in this group to just roll over and accept what is offered them especially the slap in the face that was the first proposal coming from the league.
