  1. Thats the way I remember hearing it but to be honest I don't have a source so...I suppose without clarification its a moot point. What got under my skin today was word that the league only took 10 minutes to peruse the 3 counterproposals then shut down negotiations. Hopefully the talks continue.
  2. I suppose the same could be said about the leagues refusal to begin negotiations during the season last year. Put Buttman on the players side and Fehr on the leagues side and it wouldn't make a lick of difference. These guys go to bat for their employers and are paid to squeeze the other side. I believe what Dudacek said above and if I interpreted it right they are both following a script or template if you will in how this is conducted. The proposal on Tuesday from the league was the first negotiating that side has done. The first proposal was simply a shot across the bow and did little else but bring the players fighting instinct out. The players have put forth numerous proposals on how they think the league could fix the game including 3 more today. I ain't picking sides but I do know it takes two and they're both to blame for how this has gone.
  3. Fehrs press conference was very interesting in how he broke it all down. If you haven't heard it its worth a listen to get the Players perspective. I'd find the linky but I gotta go.
  4. Apparently the league has allowed time for a training camp of sorts in their latest proposal if the N.H.L.P.A. accepts the proposal on time.
  5. I agree with this. The N.H.L. in my mind was losing the pr war and now it seems they win either way this goes. Players accept they win, players turn it down they win. Players would be wise to accept this offer or perhaps this offer with some tweeks and get back on the ice.
  6. Well the old farmer is starting to look more and more like a pirate.
  7. Amusing that Penn State played his final words to the court over the university radio station. I'm not sure if its accurate but thats what I heard today. I can't for the life of me figure out why they would. Of course he denied everything and never took ownership for his crimes. Claimed it was all a conspiracy. Enjoy your cellmate Mr. Sandusky.
  8. Mmmm, Thanksgiving Turkey dinner with all the trimmings and surrounded by family. Awesome.
  9. Anyone hear there's a movement ( supported by Martina N ) to eliminate the grunts and screaming from women's tennis. To be honest I really like the back and forth of it. Thoughts ?
  10. How bout we put an end to this thread once and for all. Although it has been highly entertaining.
  11. So the elite U.F.A ( or doctor ) shops his services, signs a new deal and then gets told by his new employer he's going to take a 24% paycut whether he likes it or not. Not what I'd want to hear from my new employer after negotiating my shiny new contract.
  12. Well it should embarrass the owners. 2005 was and this is a lockout. Lets not forget that the players have been locked out. I wouldn't expect anyone in this group to just roll over and accept what is offered them especially the slap in the face that was the first proposal coming from the league.
  13. He was scratched because of the nasty headshot he took the other day I'm thinkin. Or I could be totally wrong and have him mixed up with someone else. For some odd reason my mind just hasn't been into hockey lately.
  14. I'll go one better. If his team mates call him that, I'll acknowledge the name has merit. Until then I just can't agree on naming the future star centre of the Sabres after a cookie
  15. If that could be organized and carried out it would be a great way to send a message. Problem is the individual teams would co-ordinate a cheap ticket night to correspond with the boycott and fans would flock to the games. People have short memories when it comes to stuff like this and the league knows it. I agree and support the idea of a league wide one game boycott though.
  16. I understand what your saying but I should have specified that what I meant was teams outbidding each other in free agency thereby driving up the cost of doing business. When its time for a players agent to negotiate a new contract they look for players with similar numbers or stats and demand similar pay even though the salary paid to the unrestricted free agent was inflated grossly to begin with. I think you would agree this also has driven up salaries. Mind you free agency is something the players championed so I suppose we could also blame them for that.
  17. There's a hell of a lot more to the CBA than the 50-50 split. The players salaries are up 40% largely because thats what the owners chose to pay them. The fact that the league raises the cap ceiling and floor based on league revenues is telling, When an apparent have not team such as Minnesota can sign 2 players to contracts totalling 200 million dollars while still crying poor there's a real problem. I don't think its the players fault that a team like Minnesota can essentially drive the cost of doing business up while accepting corporate welfare from the teams it outbid. These owners want it both ways imo. I'll add that imo the players have no ownership in the league so I don't believe its up to them to fix broken markets. Buttman and his owners have to come up with a better system or stop throwing money into bad markets that don't support hockey. Why should Buttmans mistakes be bailed out off the players backs?
  18. Thats true but by the time all is said and done there will be some give and take from both sides. Thats how it works.
