Just because we're Buffalo doesn't mean everything we have sucks. Girgensons is viewed very highly throughout the league. Many "experts" said that leading up to the trade deadline when talking about our "untouchables" and for the most part they were all quoting GMs or scouts around the league.

OT: We are going to be nailed by a blizzard Wednesday

My roommate and I skied down Park Ave tonight to 7-11 and grabbed some frozen pizza. We didn't even think of calling for delivery cuz we would of felt bad having anyone drive just to give us food. lol -
Vanek couldn't enter the draft at age 17 because of his draft birthdate. You must be 18 years old as of September 15th of the draft year. For example, Tavares turned 18 on Sept 20th, and missed the 2008 draft by 5 days. As for Kevin Czuczman, the reason he wasn't drafted was because he fell into a different category. To be a North American player and be eligible for the draft, you can't be 20 years old or older as of December 31st of the draft year. His freshman year with Lake Superior was when he was 20 years old. Same with Chris Tanev from RIT, he was an overage player at RIT and thus when he left RIT, he became a free agent and never was entered for the draft. With Bennett vs. Seguin/Hall, the reason why his draft eligibility is when he's younger, he is currently 17, is because he has a late birthdate (June) and thus one of the youngest players in the 2014 draft.

Today. Isles got it all started- @FriedgeHNIC Lake Superior St D Kevin Czuzcman apparently signing with NYI He has spend the last 2 development camps with the Sabres.

Amerks announce d-men and Rasmus' partner Drew Bagnall is out for the season with an injury. Big loss to the Amerks. Guess that loss of Klesla hurts a lil bit more now.

Beyond crazy. I watched it all the way til the intermission then i turned it off when it was 3-0 Canucks. Turned it back on when i heard via twitter that it was 3-3. Whats even crazier is, after Tanev scored to tie it at 4-4, Isles scored just 10 seconds after. 7 goal period. Not sure if i ever seen that before?

Big match this weekend. United v. Liverpool. -
Not sure, but he didn't count Zemgus Girgensons to the Sabres, i gotta think Girgensons would be pretty high up on top prospects list if he was eligible.

There's plenty of talent in the college ranks thats untapped. For example, look at NYR backup goaltender Cam Talbot. He was signed as a undrafted free agent from the University of Alabama-Huntsville. Exactly. Who? Also, one of the better undrafted free agent signings has to be by Brian Burke, Tyler Bozak.

Bad example. Edmonton is a case that their "tank" period when the team was awful, came at a time where the drafts were offensive strong, but defensively weak. They didn't draft the wrong guys and miss out on studs that are making them look like fools now. Sabres on the other hand, have a very solid mix of youth as is and are extremely well build on defense. They are very weak in top-6 forwards category and Connor McDavid would be the biggest addition they could ever get for top-6.

It's worth the risk and then dealing with the surplus of players later, if they can land a guy like Brian Flynn for nothing.

I have been a strong and long supporter of Leon, dating back to the 2012/13 WJC. But, i am already sold on Sam Bennett. Not only from his video highlights, to his work ethic, to him loving Doug Gilmour and being mentored by him, to him being a "gamer" type player, in your face guy, he also loves to score. He's 17 years old now and projects 102 points over the course of 63 games. That is very similar to the numbers Tyler Seguin and Taylor Hall had as 18 year old players in the OHL. As 18 year olds per 63 game comparisons- Seguin- 106 in 63 games.... pace of 1.7ppg Hall - 117 in 63... pace of 1.9ppg With only a small increase of PPG from this season to his 18yo season, Bennett will be projected to score at a higher rate then either of those two.
-
More on Leon... 16g, 25a, 41pts since WJC (21 games) 11g, 16a, 27pts in last 11 games. He will be considered at length by whomever for #1 overall pick.

Martin Biron pretty much did the same thing. Got send down to the minors and he decided he wasn't all about that and didn't want ride the bus and retired. Nobody on here was hating on Biron.

GAME DISCUSSION THREAD GDT: Chicago at Buffalo 3-9-14 at 7:30 PM EDT

To tell you the truth, i never even heard of him until trade deadline day but now that i've seen him twice with Buffalo, he very much reminds me of Dwight King of the Kings. Very good player. That would be a heck of a gain by Murray if this kid can become as successful as King. -
The big dog available is center Greg Carey. Has has put up very impressive numbers in each of his 4 seasons at St Lawrence, but the last 2 he has become an elite scorer. No doubt he will be the most coveted college free agent. The best d-men is 6'3 Finn Ahti Oksanen. He plays for Boston College. He is young, just 20yo, and plays on pairing on BC's defense. Great offensive game and great size. I don't think we will land either of the 2 big free agents, i do think there are few names to watch out for beyond the top 2. -Trevor van Riemsdyk - Brother of James, he plays defense and is a high scoring d-men. Plays for New Hampshire, plays a smart defensive game but scores at a high level. Currently is injured so i wonder how that will effect his stock? -Mark Zengerle - 24yo center plays on Wisconsin. Born in Rochester, plays a hard, in your face game. Has offensive talent but is an elite shutdown center in college ranks. Murray said he wants to bring back local players. Brian Flynn did wonders. He is a similar type player. -Shayne Taker - big 6'4 d-men for Notre Dame. I heard the Sabres had scouted him in the past few months, i forget where i heard it from, somewhere on radio i think it was mentioned. He reminds scouts of Dan DeKayser who was a college undrafted signing with Detroit who has turned out real well.

It was said somewhere really recent (maybe even yesterday) from the D@C that the Sabres want Pysyk to learn more how to score. And that best place for that is in Rochester. So i think that's the big thing. The other thing is, Nolan said it around Christmas, losing is contagious and they need to be careful that they don't push guys into bad situations, which will effect their long term growth because of losing. Pysyk is gonna really give Girgensons a fight for his money (and whom ever else) to become a Captain of the Sabres, as LTS said, and being in Rochester gives him an opportunity to lead the team and be in every situation. I think they view Pysyk as a Duncan Keith type player, and he spend roughly 150 games in the AHL prior to going to Chicago.

Call me crazy, but i think they will be worse next year then this year. I think losing is contagious and it will have an effect on some players. I also believe players who finish strong this season, Ehrhoff and Stewert for example, could be dealt at the draft I'm not a mind reader but i think i see what Murray's vision is. Build a Calder Cup contender next year for Rochester, and tank to get a top-2 pick. 2015/16 line combinations thread will be a very interesting thread when the time comes.

Torrey Mitchell probably got the same speech.

You can't compare Moulson to Neuvirth. Moulson was an established player coming here. Neuvirth is a backup goalie who is a fringe NHLer, needing to come and fight his way back for another NHL contract. I also have no issues with not retiring 30 or having someone else wear it. Just give it some time. Five days after a Miller trade is a bit redic, coming from the ownership who tried to bring back the alumni and cried for Gil. Those memories Pegula had of Gil from his childhood that made him cry as a grown man are similar memories many fans have of Miller. Hopefully the day was just overwhelming for the Sabres equipment crew, he gave his request and with it being a busy day, they went with it but hopefully the upper management tomorrow realizes what the equipment staff did and fixes it. It'd be a shame if they didn't.
