    My point is, the team was loaded with guys who he could've grabbed and turned into the 2-way players he wanted, but he went and picked the only true goalscorer the team had in a decade.

    No. I get your point, but I will say this - Only an idiot comes out to say that he wants to turn your only 40-goal scorer in 8 years, into the "best 2-way forward in the game". Yeah, those 40-goal guys are a dime a dozen, let's turn this guy into Curtis Brown v 2.0.

    The fact that the concussion that utimately *did* end his career was an accidental collision with Mike Keane, that would certainly make it appear so. Only problem was, the Sabres doctors wouldn't clear Patty, because Larry Quinn wanted an injury prone star player off the books, not because they feared for his health so it's tough to blame the Rangers in this case. They had no reason to believe Buffalo was playing fair with Lafontaine.

    Haseks numbers were inflated, he played behind the best defense in the league for years. Look what happened when he left for Detroit.

    Good times, but I feel the exact same way about 2006 playoffs as I do about the 1999 run - Ancient history. The future's looking bright atm, and for the first time in ages.

    I'd say at this point, the sky's the limit for these guys. Goaltending may prove to be an achilles heel next season, and the defense might night an additional top 4 guy added.

    That blocker save was something, but in general he had another strong game. He's not flashy, he's just.... There, for lack of a better word. The 4-2 goal last night was a bounce off the end boards, and Girgs should've had an assist on the 4-3 goal, for coughing up the puck that easily.

    Am I the only one suprised to see Reinhart leading the team goals, at this point? Always had him figured for more of a setup guy. An added bonus, to be sure.

    IMHO, the Sabres were always going to draft Reinhart, first or second overall. They needed fowards, and centers. It made sense for the Panthers to choose a d-man, given who they had in the system. It would've made zero sense for the Sabres to draft a d-man.

    I would, the man was absolutely clueless. He won a few trades early in his tenure, rode his reputation as a "great trader" ever since the Briere deal, and then drove the franchise further and further towards the bottom ever since. Apart from two seasons in which the rules were dramatically changed, his teams went nowhere without the greatest goaltender ever in net to carry them.

    I don't mind the physical, high intensity North American brand of hockey, but I absolutely freakin' detest the clutching and grabbing. It has NOTHING to do with hockey, neither the elegant or physical style. It's cheap, against the rules, and it slows down every damn game to a crawl, and it's so easy to call. Exhibit A : 2005-2007.

    Me too, and I often get guys mixed up anyway.

    I honestly think the only reason he gets players wrong, is that he's having trouble reading the numbers, which is to be expected.

    Unless the guy has learned how to skate since the trade, I'm really finding it hard to care. Yes, I thought his skating was that bad. He made Vanek look like Geoff Sanderson.

    Definitely not a fan of the Lehner deal either, I see him as backup material, maybe fringe starter.
