  1. Just like sooner or later they have to make the playoffs but they don’t.
  2. I have a friend in Machias. We went fishing in Ischua Creek a couple times.
  3. Interesting dat their government just reduced the quarantine to 7 days.
  4. Of course, after reading dis post and mention of Fogarty, now “Put me in coach, I’m ready to play” is playing in my head.
  5. Major memory from my youth. In high school I talked a lot about sports so some classmates called me ‘Rick Azar’.
  6. Actually, nothing compares to the 2002 Western Conference Finals Game 6 between the Sacramento Kings and the Lakers. The Kings led the series 3-2. The Lakers shot 27 free throws in the 4th Qtr. One of the most blatant foul calls was when Kobe Bryant raised his arms with the ball and elbowed Mike Bobby in the face and they called the foul on Bibby. That was a disgrace. Of course, many said the Kings could’ve still won Game 7 at home but they didn’t.
  7. I wish the NBA refs would do more of it. I don’t like when Team A has 25 to 30 fouls called on them, resulting in like 30 to 40 free throws for Team B, while Team B has only about 12 fouls called on them, resulting in only 10 free throws for Team A.
  8. I had set the game to record, sat down to watch it and it wasn’t there. History said “Recording cancelled due to error”. WTF? Damn Directv. When the NFL takes Sunday Ticket from them, I’m done. Guess I didn’t miss much with another 3 goal loss. So what is Granato doing different that they’re giving up so many shots on goal?
  9. I agree. It would be very shortsighted to want past and future 1st round picks. You can do this for the NFL or NBA but not the NHL. Just off the top of my head is the 2014 draft. Sabres take Reinhardt 2nd and jury still out if he has justified that pick. Taken 3rd was Draisitl, who’s a star. Taken 4th was the other Sam, Sam Bennet, who has been a disappointment, as has Michael Dal Colle, taken 5th. Then, late in that 1st round, Pasternak was taken 25th.
  10. When they announced “one minute remaining...” at the end of each period, I could almost hear fans cheering.
  11. With 29 games remaining, only 6 wins to date and just 3 games remaining vs New Jersey, I’d put my money on this team not reaching the Bills’ regular season 13 wins. In this 11 game winless stretch, they’ve been out scored 47-17 and been shut out 4 times.
  12. What’s with your avatar? Looks like a Monkey who thinks he’s a Beatle.
  13. Living on the West Coast, I used to get the NHL Center Ice but stopped around the time that Briere and Drury left. At this point, I don’t know why but when they have a freebie week, I record the Sabres games. Today I found out by accident that there was a Free Preview so I recorded the game. Pathetic. I will have the opportunity to watch tomorrow’s game also, and since the opponent is the Devils, the one team the Sabres have been able to beat, I guess I’ll watch it. For those looking for Ralph to get fired, this seems to be an opportune time. If they get embarrassed by the Devils, that has to be the last straw, doesn’t it? Doesn’t it?
  14. Good guess! In their last 8 games, they’ve lost by 3 goals 6 times and there’s no reason to dispute that those teams are 3 goals better than this Sabres squad. It was nice to read that they showed some heart with Miller’s response to the hit on Cozens.
  15. I think there is some similarity of Eichel’s relationship with the Sabres to Joe Thornton’s when he got traded by Boston to San Jose. Thornton was selected first overall by the Bruins in the 1997 draft. (Jack of course was taken 2nd) Thornton’s career started out slower than Jacks’s as he had only 7 points in 55 games his first season and then 41 pts in 81 games in his second season. Thornton eventually became a point per game player and exploded in his 6th season (the 2002/03 season) with 36 goals and 65 assists for 101 points in 77 games. Thornton was named team captain prior to that 2002/03 season. (Eichel was named captain before the 2018/19 season and had his best season to that point with 28 goals and 54 assists for 82 points in 77 games). Thornton regressed in the season following his career year. (Eichel regressed this season after arguably his best season in 2019/20) Thornton eventually became unhappy with the state of the Boston franchise and upset with criticism of his play. He was under heavy scrutiny for his leadership style and was criticized for not raising the level of his play in the playoffs. (Some similarities to Eichel) The Bruins were struggling to begin the 2005/05 season so he was traded to San Jose for forwards Marco Sturm and Wayne Primeau and defenseman Brad Stuart, the 3rd overall pick of the 1998 draft. Now, if the Sabres were to trade Eichel, I sure the he!! hope they get a better return. Marco Sturm became a 20+ goal, 40+ point player for the Sharks and continued that pace for 5 seasons with the Bruins before his career fizzled out. Primeau was mediocre with the Sabres and continued as such after the trade to Boston at the age of 29. Brad Stuart made the NHL ALL-Rookie team in 2000 but never lived up to his high draft position. Overall, a mediocre return.
  16. Was this in preseason or was I misinformed on the NHL debut?
  17. So are there any franchise-changing players out there for the draft?
  18. Kind of similar to when they threw “outgoing” Bills GM Doug Whaley out there without any answers?
  19. Sunday’s game is national on NBC. Could an embarrassment on national TV finally result in some changes?
