  1. Ah, remember the days when journalists had the integrity to get the news right and had some pride in what was printed/posted? Me neither.
  2. That reminds me of when I was playing soccer. I played defense (fullback) and, despite frequently being complemented for my play, a teammate says to me “ you’re not playing defense. You just get in people’s way.” Huh?
  3. So, now we’re left with Liev Schreiber?
  4. Arby’s has the meats!!
  5. I’d say my C- team did pretty well with the 2nd highest score for the week.
  6. So much for the Survival contest.
  7. Yow! ‘Comedy of errors’ and ‘disaster waiting to happen’?!
  8. I usually don’t care much about Yahoo’s post-draft grades, but my draft felt like a C. I don’t quite get how they can give North Buffalo a C with McCaffrey, Kupp and Kelce, but it appears they didn’t like the Herbert pick. He was rated low, and a fair amount lower than Goff, who they picked later. It almost seems like they graded on a curve. If 4 teams got D’s, wouldn’t that mean that other teams would get players cheaper than expected? 7 of our 12 teams had drafts average or lower?
  9. Let’s just get it set as the season starts on Thursday.
  10. Many trolls on here like to be critical of the GM. I believe this video showed he knows what he’s doing and is in charge. I also like Jerry Forton. Watching this gave me excitement for next season. I hope we’re not disappointed again.
  11. Size always matters. 😉
  12. Found this on Yahoo Sports, from X: Is this because the fans of other teams like the Sabres as opponents?
  13. Huh? I grew up in Buffalo. There was plenty of unbearable humidity in the summer. We also lived in the upstairs flat with no A/C.
  14. Upgrade on Comrie.
  15. Ride Her, Ritchie!?
  16. Yes, he falls to Islanders at 20. Watch him be Bossy 2.0 and a 50 goal scorer.
  17. In 50+ years of following Bills and NFL football, that was one of the best defensive plays I’ve ever seen. Hyde came from out of camera view to close and pick that off.
  18. Yeah, prior to the Eichel trade, some of you guys were discussing prospects on other teams like Kempe, Drysdale and Byfield of the Kings, Zegras of Anaheim, etc. So far, Krebs is no where close to the level of those guys. It’s very fortunate that Tuch has been so good.
  19. I’ll say. I went to the 1985 Super Bowl at Stanford. The ticket face value was $60. I paid $125 to sit in the 2nd to last row of the end zone seats. I was making about $30K then. This past Super Bowl the tickets were around $6K. I’m been retired now for a few years but even if I was still working, no freakin’ way would I pay $6K for a ticket.
  20. Yeah, some people were even saying this last season. Unfortunately they were right and the team regressed.
  21. I had scanned the Web and found most of the answers you other posters provided but nowhere did I find it 100% definitive. There was a lot of guesswork, even with the Canadian dominant hand on top of stick theory. i also found ideas like “maybe they saw someone else shooting left and copied”. Along with the Canadian idea, it was also pointed out that when we started getting exposed to European players, it was noticed that the majority of them also shot from the left side, although not to the high percentage of Canadians. So, with the left sided theories being somewhat puzzling and the dearth of right shooting defenseman, why don’t more defenseman switch to the right side shooting to play the right side on the ice? Recently I saw the TNT NHL studio crew do a demonstration of the disadvantages of a left shooting defenseman playing on the right side. (I believe this was between periods of a Sabres game after they acquired Byran and he was playing the right side. With the physical and fast pace of hockey, it was startling what they demonstrated. One scenario was a left handed shooting Dman coming around the net on the right. If he’s forechecked, his stance is open to the middle of the ice instead of the side boards. A loss of the puck is way more dangerous. Another scenario was the left side Dman passing the puck behind the net to a left shooting right Dman. For the right Dman to gather the puck, his back is to the side he should be carrying the puck to. It looked very awkward. Then, after he controls the puck, he has to get his whole body, plus his stick around the net before he can pass it up the ice to the forwards. A right shooting defenseman only has to get his stick far enough past the net in order to be able to pass the puck up the ice. The forechecking issue also comes into play here.
