  1. I mostly don't want Lehner because I don't want to hear people complain about Lehner anymore. I think he'd be fine in tandem with Ullmark. He might also not want to play that role.
  2. I agree with this generally, and I even agree that it doesn't really need to be "fixed" per se. This place is worth working for. I just think I'll try a little harder to respond to folks who are newer, or at least, like, read their posts. Its not that big an ask.
  3. I'd agree that I prefer the passive ignorance that I sometimes got here as opposed to the open animosity I've gotten when people disagreed with me on other forums I've visited in the past.
  4. I mean, I did, but its not like this is coming out of no where. We had a whole thread on it. If the answer is just "hey, regular posters, make a bit more effort with the newbies" I don't think thats too much to ask.
  5. I think they get those token posts a lot early on, but they don't really get engaged with, if that makes sense.
  6. Gramps, I think you may have cut to the root of a problem we've been discussing on here for quite a while. I know I'm guilty of it, too.
  7. I think he's actually got a point here. Sometimes as a newer poster it felt like you're being ignored because people are responding to known posters. At least, it lines up with what I remember when I first started here.
  8. I'm only 33,500 behind you. Better watch your back!
  9. Cheers is easy too jump into without knowing what's happening, though. Entering Sabrespace is like if your first episode of Game of Thrones was halfway through season 4.
  10. I've talked before on here about how it felt hard to get into the flow of this forum, feeling like an outsider and all that. Its a real thing, never (or at least rarely) intentional by members of the board, it just can be hard to break through. JWs thing isn't that. He just shows up twice a year, searches for his name, calls people stuff, then disappears into the ether again. It should actually be EASIER for JW, because we know who he is. He doesn't have to come in and prove himself and his opinions, he can be like "hey, I'm John Warrow, I work for the AP, you've read my stuff, any questions?". He's chosen to use his little soapbox of fame to be a jerk to people instead.
  11. No insult intended; you, and many other posters here, made the effort. I just mean that people like me and my ilk grew up side-by-side with the internet as a part of our daily lives since before we hit middle school. Its a culture you have to understand, just like moving to another country or something. If I move to France and am pissed that they speak French and don't have Bud Light on tap at every bar, I'm the a**hole; that's all I'm saying.
  12. Also, members of older generations who have not made a concerted effort still don't really understand the internet. People being anonymous?!? Online?!?!!!?! Insanity.
  13. It sucks that J-dubs spent his time on here being annoyed at us for no reason. I like when media interacts with fans on a personal level. His first handful of posts here were interesting and had some insight that we don't normally get through the paper or even twitter. He could have popped up a couple times a year on a whim and answered some questions, instead he started popping up a couple times a year and yelled at people. Cest la vie. Just the fact that he admitted to just coming in to search for his name tells me something.
  14. Ah yes, those damned finesse captains are ruining this team. I pine for the days of Steve Ott and Craig Rivet.
  15. IDK, the generation stuff is mostly bulls*** to me. Don't put so much on these kids. They'll have good and bad like the rest of us. Our generation did a lot to fight for LGBTQ and made some big strides there. We were watching the Daily Show and hating on the Bush administration. It was less obvious fighting, maybe a little more subversive, trying to change the culture. Our generation elected Obama. We did some good. What this group is doing is INCREDIBLE. Being so outspoken at such a young age is amazing. Just remember that the Baby Boomers were fighting Vietnam and marching for Civil Rights and all that back in the '60's. Look where they are now. The real lesson is that we all get older and more comfortable, its always the kids that have to do the pushing. Millenials, Xers, and Boomers have to be there to support them, raise their voices, and actually go vote. The young change the culture, the old have to change the laws.
  16. The News guys are always so defensive. Actually they're more preemptively attackers against anyone who isn't in print. Tim Graham's writing is second to none in this area; I'll gobble up his articles, which are often long and detailed, because its just so thorough and well written. But I had to block him on Twitter, because all he does is fight with readers on there and -talk WGR. I'll never forget him going after Matthew Collar of all people about not really playing baseball. It was so dumb.
  17. For a while when I was working with you I was working 6-2:30. Getting out that early was AWESOME, but I couldn't keep up those early hours.
  18. Didn't he not negotiate during the season though? He definitely didn't for Drury and Briere.
  19. I feel attacked. If P-house has one advantage over Bylsma, its that I have at least some confidence that Casey's first shift won't be with Nolan and Pouliot or something.
