Living up to the "Hollywood" moniker. This summer surely can't get any better.

Anyone care to share with the class a comprehensive explanation of "recapture"?

I assume you watched the video. You really think that woman's behavior, regardless of her point of view, was acceptable? So, you must be okay with our politics turning into this (turn down the sound): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3DHKni1mu8

Buffalo Industrial Heritage Trail...uhm, what? Really? So we get to celebrate our industrial past, when the area was silly economically strong, people wanted to move here and you had a job for life and *many* options if you didn't like that one? When there were more mom-and-pop businesses than you could possibly count, downtown Buffalo was vibrant and exiting, and the future was wide open? Instead, we now have rusted steel "sculpture" in rock park-lets with ninny little info-plaques on a "clean" miles-long bike trail, half the city is decayed, some suburbs are decayed and some others are decaying, chronic population drain, school closures, and countless business-closures. The only thing certain is that the economy will always be anemic. Oh, but the clean air and dirt is a fabulous trade off. As if the fifty years since wouldn't have made a difference in cleaning up the area regardless, just like other industrial cities (the few that remain in the USA). No, we still would have the dumps and the fall-out from those, but at least there'd be tons of money around to deal with it, as opposed to just putting up barricades and hoping the wind blows the right way. I can't believe people fall for crap like that...celebrate your "industrial heritage" while the soup kitchen is in dire need of volunteers and donations, and the beautiful houses and neighborhoods built with the money from that heritage crumble and are torn down.

I would like to see Hackett play. I guess I'm being careful not having seen him play, and therefore not convinced being a NHL back-up is the best place for him next season. That's the Leggio connection there. I was thinking he could back-up Enroth.
-
Well, like I said, I don't think Leggio is the next Tim Thomas, so I don't argue his NHL-worthy-ness, although I would have liked to see him get a look. I think I'm just more...unimpressed...by the lack of a seemingly coherent plan (other than the "suffering" plan). Letting Leggio go isn't a big deal by itself, but it adds to the collage of moves that make little sense, except for one thing: Regier meant it when he said "suffering". Seriously, the only direction I see all of the actions this year pointing toward is at least another dismal season. I can't see how Miller or Vanek would want to be here, at all, next season. Even with Vanek on the roster, I do not see where the goals will come from. The defense looks no better than it has the past handful of seasons. If Miller is still here, how could he possibly not burn-out faster than ever? Bah...I'm in a bad place with the Sabres.
-
Meh. It just says to me Miller isn't going anywhere, and that the Sabres' goalie-depth has been shortened. Not that I thought Leggio was the next Tim Thomas, but he was a local guy who wasn't given a shot in the NHL by his team. So that leaves Hackett and Knapp for the Amerks, I suppose. Hackett needs to feast on meatball subs or something.
-
Ugh. Not a fan of letting Leggio go. I really think the Sabres have no plan in particular and are just going with the flow.
-
Just checking in...Sabres...Sabres.... No? Okay...
-
It seems few people got the memo. But, I may be reading all of the "chatter" wrong.

No one has said, at least recently in this thread, that they want Horton. Just because we're inclined to talk about it, doesn't mean we want it to happen. Do you walk into nuclear physics lectures and accuse everyone there of wanting nuclear war? Ridiculous. The Sabres don't need Horton, but that may not stop them from trying to acquire him. Do we learn nothing season to season around here? The dude made it plain he wants a "quiet" town, which keeps Buffalo on the list, tis all. What has Briere done, exactly, that would make him such a great mentor, other than wearing a Sabres jersey and have a name that's easy to remember?
-
I'm happy for him. Taxes on that low hockey pay must be a b*tch.
-
Does this go here? "Buffalo Sabres General Manager Darcy Regier today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Matt Ellis on a two-year, two-way contract."
-
Possibly. It leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I can see how it could mean something like one of the southern markets where hockey is far from the focus. I can also see how it would mean a non-original six market where hockey is big-time (except, maybe, NYC). And not a Canadian team. Since Buffalo is rarely in the media, and players seem to disregard this place in general (and that's a huge, vague, umbrella, I know), I think it can easily be classified as a "non-traditional" market to people outside of Buffalo. I can see it happening, if he's looking for a place to settle, is all.
-
If nothing else, this area is fairly well known throughout the league as a player-with-family-friendly place. It's one of the few consistent positives the Sabres have when recruiting.
-
It doesn't get more "quiet" than here, for a family guy, that is. I think the odds just went up that Horton may be a Sabre.
-
He would, though, get the satisfaction of re-visiting former glory days.
-
If there's one post that summarizes how I see the Sabres right now, it's this one.
-
These same experts, on average, have had the Sabres finishing somewhere in the top 8 every year since the lockout. Yeah, they know the Sabres reeeeeaaalllllly well. FWIW, I don't know what's going on with Grigs, but I share your concern. I think the attitude thing I can handle since he's so young; you want your 18 year old to be extroverted and confident. I do fear he was handled poorly last season which could either help to solve attitude problems or make them worse. If he has a work-ethic/attitude problem he needs to dorm with a grizzled vet for a year who will scare/force the demons out of him and reinforce the good habits. I thought I saw a lot of potential in him last season and I'd like to make sure that is nurtured and brought out. We know what happens when potential is squandered for whatever reason (Stafford).

My summary: ...well, except maybe Zadorov.

THAT'S 'CAUSE DARCY REGIER IS A GENIUS!

Mike Harrington @BNHarrington 8m Darcy on trading a D now after taking 2: "I suppose it probably gives us options but that wasn't the intent." #Sabres

I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous. Unbelievable. No, wait, tragically believable.
