He is clueless about checks and balances. I want to see the actual charges brought against this judge and how many GOP reps have the stones to stand up for our system of government.

Lindy’s additional comments about “having each other’s backs” went farther than just going after the opponent in sticking up for a teammate, which Lindy said is a given. Lindy said that having each other’s backs also means hustling to make up for a mistake made by a teammate and making a better play. I thought that was spot on.

The FDA approval issue was certainly of relevance for the Sabres, especially as it related to insurance and liability, but ADR was being practiced with regularity, regardless. Just not on athletes engaged in high velocity contact sports as both you and I have pointed out.

I don’t disagree with the idea that patients always have a right to choose. Perhaps that issue will be re-examined in the next CBA. And of course medical opinions vary among experts, but for what it’s worth I doubt any of the doctors Eichel sought other opinions from have performed anywhere close to the number of ADR procedures as Dr. Cappuccino or have taught the technique to as many other practitioners around the world, either. Like patients, medicals practitioners have a right to choose, too, and given the lack of data on how contact sport athletes would hold up after the ADR procedure and the enormous potential liability issues, Dr. Cappuccino was absolutely correct in his opinion at the time.

So you’re telling me that one of the first spinal surgeons to be certified on the ADR procedure in the USA, who teaches the ADR procedure around the world, and who has performed more of them than anyone else in the country, was wrong to advise against it? Eichel’s “extensive research” was irrelevant to the opinion of the person employed by the Sabres to render critical medical advice. That didn’t make them wrong at the time. Under the CBA the Sabres had every right to deny permission for the ADR given the advice given by a preeminent practitioner in the field.

I appreciate this thoughtful response. In short, my “idea of America” is what’s expressed in our founding documents and codified in our Constitution. Agree entirely on your views of the middle class. Have you ever asked yourself what created our middle class and what’s helping to erode and destroy it? It’s worth the research. Like you, I could go on but I’ll just say I’m with you in hoping it doesn’t get much worse before we turn things around again. Which this country, read “our citizenry”, has done on several occasions in the past. In the meantime, try to hang in there.

The procedure was not considered experimental at the time Eichel sought to have it. While first developed in Europe in the 90s, it has been a routine procedure here for years. The only question was ADR procedures for athletes engaged in high impact sports. There simply was no track record a few years ago. Dr. Andrew Cappuccino whose treatment of Kevin Everett (the Bills player paralyzed from the neck down after covering a kickoff) allowed him to miraculously walk again, was among the first spinal surgeons in the US certified in the ADR procedure and he teaches the technique around the world. He was the Sabres’ consultant on the Eichel matter and it was Dr. Cappuccino who advised against the ADR procedure given the lack of historical data relative to athletes in contact sports. I have no desire to re-litigate the issue, except to say that when Eichel stated on a podcast hosted by an UFC fighter whose name I don’t recall offhand, that the Sabres initially said he could have the ADR and then changed their mind, he was full of crap. The Sabres, again on the advice of Dr. Cappuccino, never approved the ADR. It’s great that Eichel is doing well after his surgery, but doctors don’t have the luxury of hindsight when making their best medical decisions at the time they make them. Positive outcomes are never guaranteed and it’s always better to err on the side of caution until a track record has been established.

I understand that completely but we’re gonna need decent people who understand what’s at stake and believe America is still worth fighting for. Like my dad and uncles and countless others of the greatest generation, decent people need to stay and take a stand. The idea of America is worth the sacrifice. I don’t assign any probability. And I don’t think it’s an extreme idea given Trump’s affiliation with Russian oligarchs and Russian mafia since 1987 as well as his pro-Russia, anti-Ukraine rhetoric.

I seem to remember lessons about a few European country leaders who felt the same way in the 1930s. It’s all part of the Project 2025 strategy. Our only chance is that our other Constitutional supports can hold strong.

At this point, the best I can hope for is that our fighting men and women aren’t ordered to fight on the side of Russia if a peace deal is not reached because Europe, especially Poland and other NATO border countries bordering Ukraine, won’t hesitate to join Ukraine as allies and they will march across Ukraine before Russia can claim any more territory. Unlike Americans Europe, especially Eastern Europe, knows their history and has learned from it.

I don't believe it for a second. Trump also said he would resume sharing intelligence with Ukraine as well. That hasn't happened.

To Von’s credit, he renegotiated a new deal after the first two injury-filled years. Everything is a risk when you get right down to it.

I hear that. Unfortunately, twitter and sites like it are too popular a way for our challenged attention spans. All it takes is a read of a tweet and you’re fully informed. Kelly’s response on twitter was the only way to get gruppenfuhrer Musk’s attention because Musk doesn’t avail himself of other outlets. Kelly is an adult but sometimes we have to speak to children like Musk in ways they can comprehend.
