It's amazing the correlation between great OCs and great QBs. Amazing, I tell ya. GO BILLS!!!

Would you have been OK with Marrone getting fired and still getting the $4m? People making way too much out of the opt-out clause. Not a big deal at all, especially considering the state of the franchise at the time Marrone signed. Smart of his agent to include it and smart of Overdorf not to object to it when he negotiated Marrone's contract. No way in hell that should have been a show stopper when it came to signing the coach they wanted. There are no villains in this entire scenario. i don't blame Marrone at all for wanting an extension, and I don't blame Pegula for needing to see where we were after Marrone's third year. As for Polian, I take him at his word. There is no doubt the parameters of his task changed with the resignation of Marrone and I respect him for understanding that if he were to bring a new coach in, he would have owed it to that coach to stay. As for the Tim Graham's of the world, they just make it up as they go. NONE of what he tweeted about the situation makes ANY sense from ANY angle. Not one ounce of it. GO BILLS!!!

Agree with everything that's been said here about the game. Now, this may sound silly to others, but Samson was showing these glimpses in his 9 game stint; putting himself and the puck in position but totally lacking the wing support to capitalize. We HAVE to get him wingers with a clue. GO SABRES!!!

What's interesting about Brickley is that when he's doing a Bruins telecast that's being broadcast over another network, his objectivity magically returns. When he's doing a NESN broadcast, he's a total homer. What a lousy standard for a network to adhere to. It diminishes their professionalism. GO SABRES!!!

I think the two questions are getting conflated. What Whaley "should" have done is different than "what did we give away to draft Watkins." It was pretty well established by Whaley himself that he would have chosen Ebron at 9. Now that we know we would have had the 19th pick in the upcoming draft, we have a little more quantification in that regard. It's worth noting that we also had trade down scenarios as well if Ebron was already gone by the time we picked at 9. We would have traded down into the low/mid teens and we would have taken, you guessed it, Beckham. I think the Giants surprised some when they took him at 12 though. I think Zach Martin would have been the choice with Beckham off the board. GO BILLS!!!

I don't know. I was hoping he could man the turret for a few games until Enroth cooled off. GO SABRES!!!

I hear that. Friggen Enroth has turned into some kind of shootout savant. GO SABRES!!!

Depends entirely on the receiver or any other player at any position rated as highly. I'd be willing to wager that in all his years in the game, Whaley saw less than a handful of players with a higher consensus rating in the peronnel community than Watkins. About as blue chip prospect as you can be. GO BILLS!!!

This thread made me laugh out loud. Well done, Bert. GO SABRES!!!

I think Fasching has a lot of jam to his game. I've only seen him play a few college games and now both of these games in the tourney and I can honestly say I've yet to see him take a minute off. He hustles all the time, skates better than I thought, and just seems like a general pain in the ass to play against. I like that in a player. If he develops any kind of scoring touch, it'll be a bonus. I think we made out ok on that trade with the Kings. GO SABRES!!!

I agree with this because now we know what the draft order is on top of already knowing we were slated to take Ebron. It's really that simple: Ebron + the 19th pick in the draft for Sammy Watkins; that's what we gave up. Now we don't know who that pick will be at 19 and what kind of player he'll turn out to be and there are many more chapters to be written for both Ebron's and Watkins' career, so we won't know the full extent of the deal for several years probably. But knowing it was Ebron + the 19th pick gives the trade more shape moving forward. GO BILLS!!!

Excellent take. I think their transition will be helped if they can find wingers that can create space on the ice as well. When I read inkman's updates on the Amerks, I get the sense that Armia is doing this for Grigs in the A already. GO SABRES!!!

I just don't see the value in comparing a bunch of bad QBs. Orton may be the best of the worst, but that's not saying much. I'm not convinced any of those other bad QBs, with the possible exception of Losman and Edwards, left MORE plays on the field than Orton. It's uncanny how our passing schemes frequently had multiple receivers running open only to be totally ignored by Orton. Bottom line is we didn't get good enough QB play to contend and I don't see Orton getting any better at this stage. GO BILLS!!!
-
That was a terrific year to be sure. That 8 yards per attempt is very telling. The idea that Orton, because he compares "statistically", had as good a year as Kelly, is ridiculous. No sane observer of the game would suggest Orton has been as effective a QB, no matter what the numbers say. Case in point: completion %. Orton may have completed a higher percentage, but don't tell me he is an accurate QB. Accurate QBs have consistent "ball placement" that allows receivers to make a play rather than just make a catch. How about keeping a play alive? Orton can't extend plays to save his life; Kelly knew how to move around in the pocket WITH HIS EYES DOWN FIELD to extend a play. There is simply no comparison to be made on any rational level. There's a difference between passing and quarterbacking. GO BILLS!!!

That's what I meant by "tricky little play" in my post above. Not a bad goal in the shootout, either. GO SABRES!!!

Tricky little play to set up the first goal with a nice pass to Tuch. Controls play most of the time on the ice. Like that he isn't opposed to mixing it up when challenged. He didn't disappoint in the least.

Nice test for USA coming out of the box against the defending champs. This just in: Eichel is good. Fasching skates better than I imagined and is very effective on the PK. Hustles all the time. Didn't see enough of Compher, though. Liked Auston Matthews as well. Only 17 and won't be draft eligible until '16, but I can see why he made the squad over some older players. Larkin has nice wheels as well. Any deal with Detroit needs to include him. GO SABRES!!!

Eichel with a nice helper on the PP as USA ties it up at 1 each. USA came on strong the last half of the first and are clearly asserting control. Eichel is good. Fasching is strong on the puck. Haven't seen too much of Compher. GO SABRES!!!

I understand the frustration of not getting the tell-tale "links" but they really don't apply here. And I don't care if you think I'm full of schit or not; I understand the nature of the disbelief in an anonymous internet forum. I have no desire to get into a tit for tat pissing contest, either. I go back nearly 40 years with some of these guys. We were editing tapes for scouts and coaches back when beta-max was cool for crissakes, so I'm more than comfortable with what they share with me, and I'm more than confident in my experience to interpret that information. But like I said, I only share it here to set the record straight because these guys put in thousands of hours trying to get it right on these kids coming out; all without an agenda. Unlike the "pundits" or the "insiders" on the click for traffic sights or even fans with their own agendas. A word of caution about the pundits and "draft gurus": they are often fed total crap by the community and often times they are shills for various agents out there. Take that for what it's worth. Have a nice evening, gentlemen. GO BILLS!!!

His ability to do well during the interview process is part and parcel to his rise up the draft boards, that's why I felt it was pertinent to the discussion. GO BILLS!!!

Nope. That's right from the actual reports from several people I've know for nearly 40 years, three of whom currently working for two different teams in the league. Manuel aced his private interview with us, SD, Philly, Jax, that I know of personally and I suspect others as well. He blew everyone away with his ability to break down every play he was asked about, both on the whiteboard and in the film room. Lemme guess, you read a report that Florida State only allowed Manuel to "read half the field?" But the most absurd thing I've ever read about Manuel is your claim that he compares to Pennington in terms of arm strength. Pennington DID have questions about his arm coming out while Manuel has been lauded for his arm strength since high school, when he was considered a top 5 recruit. I've spent too much time on the Bills forum discussing this and I don't feel compelled to redo that here. I also know that as an anonymous poster on the internet, you are free to believe I'm full of schit and that's OK. I offer this info for your edification, not mine. I'm quite comfortable in my assertion either way. GO BILLS!!!

Having had the pleasure of watching both their entire careers, I can say Dom is the best ever at his position, and Gilbert is the greatest Buffalo Sabre ever. And I say that without any sense of conflict at all. Perreault ESTABLISHED the entire franchise and carried it on his back for the duration of his playing days. He did things with a puck from an offensive standpoint that others couldn't; things as amazing on offense as Dom did in goal. You had to be there to really get a sense of it. GO SABRES!!!
