  1. High School History teacher and owner of a corner bar with a massive, private “man cave” upstairs. Not that you asked this, but, In high school, the dream was to be a sportswriter until I got invited to a Larry Felser speech where he painted such a miserable, dreary portrait of his job that I turned to actuarial sciences.
  2. I believe they would love to sign Sam and make him their number one center for a couple years. Not sure he agrees.
  3. The plan seems to be to let new team make decision
  4. No, if anything, I think they rather low key it. They already know that the people that want Granato will be happy and those who think they can’t do anything right will pan it. The less spotlight the better.
  5. I don’t think Seattle effects timing at all, especially because of who they picked.
  6. That was in answer to Seattle’s coach
  7. Dave Hakstoll
  8. I would expect coach today or tomorrow, especially if they want to throw it into a dead news cycle.
  9. My take is that TPEGS wanted to see what he was paying for versus what he got by reading some googled article.
  10. PA, I thought you knew me better. I’m not a big believer in “development.” I may buy into the environment thing, but I have some reservations.
  11. This. LGRM has proven that with a little knowledge you can put together a pretty good draft list. Do you really need a staff of 30 to find one “hidden” gem per year? The return on investment seems low.
  12. My point being, as much as it seems logical, there is no tried and true method to hiring. There are stats for everything now, I’m sure someone can tell us if the evidence matches my anecdotal thoughts but experienced over inexperienced appears to be irrelevant to success.
  13. You mean the way it was wrong for Minnesota Montreal Tampa Carolina ………..
  14. One other thing, if Granato did indeed meet with Adams Tuesday, and that is something no one else is saying, then he got the job. Otherwise, Granato and his agent would make sure everyone knows he is no longer in the running gor the job.
  15. It’s not just the opportunity to interview head coaches but smart executives use the interview process as a way to learn from those they interview. You can use it as a tool to see what other people thinking your team and what they would do to correct things. It’s a means of self-scouting.
  16. The only thing more ridiculous then the thought that this is a cost cutting move is the notion that it has anything to do with character issues or off ice issues. These guys are not choirboys. They are young, single guys with a lot of money, free time and enablers and it’s not a new generation issue. Mickey Mantle was drunk half his career, the Cowboys had the “White House” hell, when Hasek was here, a member of the equipment staff’s main job was to follow him around and get him out of trouble with the police.
  17. This is why all other changes to front office will be announced after draft. The Sabres are hiring people presently under contract for front office positions.
  18. You mean the owner of the organization wants to be kept informed of million dollars decisions?
  19. The NHL cap is going to remain flat for at least two more years. Players like Hamilton will have limited options. If they want to go to a contender, they’ll take less money and term. If they are in it to cash out, Buffalo will be one of the few teams with the room and the means to do it. Complicating things, the uproar over how Tampa and to a lesser extent, Toronto and Vegas manipulated the cap will mean that the league will look closely at any attempt to circumvent the cap.
  20. There is a thread I started based on rosters from earlier this season. Buffalo actually led in number of players drafted that were on current rosters. Didn’t put any quality of picks in my summary, just let everyone form their own interpretation of why.
  21. Insurance would cover the contract if injury makes him unable to play. Two interesting points, would be will they cover it if they deem “unapproved surgery” forced retirement and I’m sure there is no coverage if he can play but not be nearly as good due to said injury or ineffective surgery.
  22. That drop by Singleterry is one of the most underrated plays in Bills’ history.
  23. Exactly, the Delaware location across from Delaware/North is their third location. The Hertle location is run by someone else who paid for the rights to use name and recipes (my definition of a franchise).
  24. FWI, it’s a franchise.
