  1. Interesting that Mike Hoffman was called up today by Ottawa. Maybe TM wants one more peek at him at this level.
  2. I would concur. From management to coaches to players, had only one bad experience dealing with anyone connected to the Sabres.
  3. Not just hockey players. If people knew the things that some of their "revered" heroes did before the internet and ESPN, etc. Mickey Mantle spent half his life in a drunkin stupor but nobody knew and nobody cared.
  4. But what if Tavares injury is long term and takes him into next year? They could be really bad next year with no Tavares, no Vanek and no one wanting to play for them. Do you risk giving away a potential franchise changer player?
  5. Tavares injury could be huge. We might get top 2 picks this year or they defer and we are in line for couple of top picks next year
  6. And since the Devils don't have a pick we can pretend it was the last pick of the first round if it makes someone happy
  7. I have to admit that I thought you were joking when you first posted that lack of shut outs was indicative of Miller's value. Now I'm not sure what to think. While I don't agree with PA and JJFIVE, at least they have well thought out, provocative reasons for their sentiments. In my opinion, shut outs rank right up there with the girls who thought Cyr should have been in the hall of fame because he was cute.
  8. I think you mean a large bit or just a lot. Just saying.
  9. Funny, but a rather typical response from a rather atypical poster.
  10. The continuous narrative about throwing teammates under the bus. Teammates who consistently vote him team MVP. Teamstes who now tell you he hasn't done but this year because he is comfortable with the team leadership. Or you could be right
  11. This whole Ehrhoff things is typical of how thing that are said enough become spoken as fact. I said it then and I will say it again. First, no one knows for sure what role TP played in the decision. Second, it is not like there were more then one elite, offensive defenseman available and TP said I want that one. He liked the obvious choice. What happens next year if the team has the first pick and TP says I really like that McDavid kid! Will that be meddling?
  12. I'm not sure anyone can argue this at this point. I do think it is a little crazy to be drawing any kind of conclusions yet. It will be a good two years before anyone really knows if this new front office was a stroke of genius or just a PR move.
  13. Now don't put words in my mouth. I think they serve a purpose and can even serve a significant purpose. The problem, to use an old cliche, is that for some, a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
  14. This analysis is why I question almost every single person who considers himself an "authority" on analytics. They undervalue what they consider to be insignificant differences. The funny part is that these same people will tell you that every team should have an analytics department because with parity, attention to detail and even the slightest advantage can change the course of a season.
  15. He seems ready to pull the trigger but also found it interesting that he wasn't sure when Islanders had to decide on deferment but assumed that it was well before draft.
  16. Didn't say I thought it would happen. Since you brought up probabilities while I am in the mood, however, the one thing that intrigues me about all this analytics and other people that spout probabilities and statistics is that I wonder how many of them really understand the statistical significance of minute differences. I'm not lumping you into this class, mind you but I have good friends whose opinions and abilities I respect who suddenly consider themselves analytic "experts" and spout phrases like "regression to the mean" but for years they would look at me glassy eyed when I tried to explain anything related to numbers, be it business profit and loss or salary cap related.
  17. The one reason that I think there is still a possibility that Miller gets moved at the deadline, the fear of trading a "returning hero." They trade him before Friday and its big news here, across Canada and in a select few hockey markets. He leads USA to gold and returns a hero only to be traded and its news across America. People that today don't even know what offsides is will know Buffalo traded an American hero under that scenario. As for other players and other teams, if teams feel they are getting fair return they will be more apt to trade a player before the Olympics and save the money they won't have to pay them over the Olympic break.
  18. I stand corrected. I didn't carry it out to the last two years. This actually changes things for me. I could even see them buying him out although I think they will decide he is good enough to risk the $3 million cap hit but there is no way they trade him unless they can figure out away to guarantee he wouldn't retire.
  19. If you go to capgeek you will see unless he retires in the next two years its almost a non-issue. The penalty is minimal given the expected rise in the cap.
  20. Bowman proved it once. He keeps the guys he wants to keep and reloads the depth players. The cap could go up another $6 million or more in 2015.
  21. Seriously? Some of the threads that have been started here and some of the wacky trade rumors and proposals that have run here and you call this crazy? I don't really see this happening either but I expect that it will be considered.
  22. Wow you really work hard to have an answer that fits your narrative.
