  1. They are two or three wins over the course of the season from being right there. That's close enough to reasonably close for me. I was responding to the idea there is no end in sight. It's sports. Teams can come from nowhere and have good seasons. It's thin gruel, yes.
  2. As pessimistic as I might come off, I never think this way. Even running everything back (they won't; things always change; 19 yo Benson is not 18 yo Benson). They could be a very good team. We are not used to it of late, but pro sports is full of could be's. Really we're just pining for the playoffs, and this team has been reasonably close. They can't miss again. They really can't.
  3. Just as I planned. Repeat after me... Tom Jolls was not convivial. Tom Jolls was not convivial. Tom...
  4. Not totally buying it. The issue wasn't cloud cover but the atmospheric forces that led to pushing the clouds to the east faster than expected. Not predictable? Don's explanation shows how cagey these guys and gals are. It sounds like a plausible excuse, then you realize every forecast has cloud cover as one of the primary elements. Clouds, temperature, precip, maybe wind. They forecast cloud cover all the time for specific areas, and they act like they can foresee it many days in advance. NWS Buffalo says for Buffalo: Monday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 44. Thickness of cloud coverage at a specific time? Sure. Most people just wanted to know where their best chance of seeing the sun would be. Even the morning of... There was little guidance.
  5. From a crass financial point of view only I don't see how they can bring Granato back. Crass as in he's going to lose you money. I realize they'll be eating some of his salary.
  6. Hey SDS wanna go to the total eclipse in Greenland in 2026?* *Only one of us will return.
  7. My best shot from fairly early in the proceedings. You can see it... But maybe not at low res.
  8. My policy is to never expect that. It's the NHL and it's a long season. Not sure what the Stars have to play for, but they could easily look past the Sabres, who are more than capable of beating the best. Inexplicably and probably to their credit, they won't quit.
  9. From TBN. The way he helped the Sabres score goals won't be found on any stat sheet. "One day during practice I was leaning against the door at the end of the rink in Memorial Auditorium," he said. "I had my foot at the bottom of the door and John Tucker shoots the puck around the boards. It hit right where my foot was. I told him to do it again and I kept my foot in the same spot. The puck bounced right out into the slot. I knew I was on to something." It wasn't unusual to see Palmer in that same spot during Sabre games, putting his foot down at just the right moment. "It happened maybe 10 or 12 times a year," he said. It became so common that some teams included it in their scouting reports. Others complained to the referees. Others went even further. "When Daren Puppa was the goaltender with Tampa Bay, their backup was Wendell Young," Palmer said. "And he had also been in Pittsburgh the year before with Tom Barrasso, another (ex-Sabre) who knew I did it. "So one night Young starts cussing me out and said he was going to punch me out. I got a little scared that night." Did Palmer's help ever result in a Sabres goal? "Oh, one or two," he said with a smile.
  10. Brolean Broilers. Woody for owner. You know he's got those billions.
  11. That's up there for best one liners on the board since... The last total solar eclipse.
  12. We did. I'm the one you slipped the tongue. To my angst about the forecast. The whole rapid clearing west to east was talked about so late. I actually picked it up on the cloud imaging site Don Paul was pushing. I will temper my bum epithet and just say they have a challenging job but dropped the ball. With a tiny bit more advanced warning I would have gone straight to Erie ish. That said, it's corny but things happen for a reason sometimes. I hung out with a grandpa and two little ones who started out from Harrisburg and ended up in that Walmart lot. Very heartwarming. I don't know who he voted for nor did I care. Events like this show us how much more we have in common. Not sure it will move the needle of division, but it's nice to be reminded. Also... Clouds are cool.
  13. It was so sunny driving west. Now not so much. Meanwhile back home it looks to be now clear(er). Such is life.
  14. I drove west to Corry PA and have planted my flag at a Walmart. Mix of sun and clouds. Got to see the start of the eclipse but now clouds are winning out. What a beautiful sky with so many cool clouds. It's almost like they are saying we are worth looking at too. Gotta get lucky for totality.
  15. The clouds are really ripping along. I would feel bad for SDS if they reach him sooner than expected. Fingers crossed.
  16. NWS Buffalo really impressing. Clouds will move in this afternoon? Look at the imagery above. Like the ending... You do the work, folks. The cloud forecast for Western NY is tricky, as mid to low clouds will move into the area this afternoon. There still could be some breaks in these, but these localized breaks will be fairly sparse and difficult to forecast since they will vary from location to location. Looking at upstream satellite imagery, there is some reason for optimism for Western NY since skies are clearing a bit faster from the west than most model guidance shows. It`ll take a little bit of luck to get this clearing into Western NY in time for the eclipse, but for areas from Buffalo west, the visible satellite imagery is the best tool to monitor.
