I've mentioned this before. I'm always shocked that trainers and equipment managers, medical staff and the like, team PR/media etc. survive new GM-coaching regimes. These are people who are in the ears of the players every day. Why wouldn't you want your own people? How much of the losing culture is the culture of these longstanding employees? Ever wonder why some teams can't win in certain buildings when the players are turned over time and again? The voices around players matter.

Making MMA look like the Aud was fantastic. Anything hockey-related? -
I was going to make a poll, but there are too many. Enjoy.

Wikipedia page says no pain killers were found in his blood, but there were traces of a drug (then legal) commonly referred to as "speed." Dexamyl. His BAC was approximately twice the legal limit at the time.

It was a De Tomaso Pantera that Punch put in the contract as a bonus. I bet that weighed on him for the rest of his life.

This'll be a nice built-in excuse. "But we were .00456 point-percentages out of a playoff spot before the league deliberately infected us with a deadly virus!"

I'd go 1A. and 1B. The Sabres, at the end of very successful first decade but in need of a reset, landed Scotty Bowman. The original core surged again in 79-80, and the Sabres got to the semifinal round and lost a hard-fought series to the Islanders. Having Bowman was an incredible coup for the franchise. How could they not win a Cup? Pominville's overtime goal also had everyone believing the upstart Sabres were a team of destiny. What could stop them? Hope is a good thing. If hope had ever been higher than in those two moments, I'd like to know when. -
The first ownership philosophy emerged from stability — keep Lindy and Darcy and throw money at the problem. The first change was accompanied by tanking. The second change brought a quick re-build. The third change — who TF knows what that was all about? One final stab at Steel City magic? The fourth great extinction is at hand. Homegrown leadership but also back to the future: the owner has said he thinks the team is a contender now, so presumably he's ready to throw money around again. Terry simply has no clue what he's doing. Down in OP, maybe, very possibly. After all, he's described himself a football guy. But not downtown. When the person you're wooing to be the new GM tells you he's not qualified, it should have been a major clue to order dessert and get the hell out of there. Instead, Terry offered him an even bigger and more complicated role. Truly unbelievable.
