GDT: Winnipeg Jets @ Buffalo Sabres 12/5/24 --7 pm MSG
PASabreFan replied to Captain Caveman's topic in The Aud Club
Some version of: Winnipeg Jets at Buffalo Sabres, December 4, 2024, 7 p.m. An argument could be made for semicolons. I am not sure TV/radio info. is even needed given the various ways people can tune in. I would make an exception for games exclusive to one network. Winnipeg Jets at Buffalo Sabres, December 4, 2024, 7 p.m. (TNT exclusive) Something akin to a headline (objective and never snarky) could be useful to set the stage (and would be interesting to read months or years later). Winnipeg Jets at Buffalo Sabres, December 4, 2024, 7 p.m., Sabres look to recover from collapse, avoid five-game losing streak -

3. Being serious. Is it too much to ask to have a standard format? I know the mods are super duper busy (their work never ends), but they are the ones who should clean 'em up. Someone should question Punch's motivation for saying the GDT doesn't need to make it clear where the game is. Dodo must be up his ass about caulking the bathtub. -
Correct. The Sabres never suck defensively with Dahlin in the lineup.

For one, there is no agreed upon format (the one I approve). -
The Theory of Shrader's Cat applies here. No NHL player is that stupid. Maybe Matt Barnaby on AOL in 1997. Maybe.

Hot take: Until this board gets its GDT title act together, the franchise will continue to founder. Not picking on Caveman... everyone sucks at it. -
With a win tonight, a chance to reprise 05-06 holiday surge

12-4-2024: Practice and media availability canceled

It's 2024. You are the media. -
I'm not sure he's terrible. He can be very good for stretches, but like the Sabres, he can't or won't sustain it. He sounds like he's always auditioning for HNIC.

This isn't another Dan is Bad rant. It's a I Don't Get Dan rant. His calls of Colorado's tying and go ahead goals featured among the most excitable "score" deliveries of his time in Buffalo. I mean, he really felt those goals. He came off as the Avs' announcer. Of course he wasn't going to follow "score" with any crazy Avs word play or expressions, but if he had, it would have fit right in. This is the guy who has no problem literally not calling many Sabres goals. The team doesn't bleed blue and gold. Neither does Dan. They are a match made in heaven.

Should? -
Disdain rings true with me. The owner simply doesn't speak to the fans. If I had to guess I'd say getting booed on RJ night was some version of marital irreconcilable differences.

Despite having lofty salary goals, kickstarting their careers has proven difficult for Gen Z. -
Can you top it?

Not so sure. I'm either onto something or on something, but the Sabres clearly underperform when they follow the Bills. -

Did UB play any starters? My Bradford boys kept the score respectable. Div. 3 vs. Div. 1 is a tough spot to be in. -

But did they go to the Bills game? Show me your secrets. Last time I tried, 300 level seats toward the middle were pushing 100 bucks. -
Oops. https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/Journal/Issues/2014/12/08/Franchises/Pegulas-One-Buffalo.aspx "When Pegula sold some of his company’s valuable drilling rights to Royal Dutch Shell for $4.7 billion in May 2010, he began speaking with Benson, a Pittsburgh attorney and CPA, about what he might do next. Benson suggested he read the book “Halftime,” which tackles precisely that question, offering suggestions of how to parlay success into fulfillment. Pegula came back with a suggestion for a second act that his friend wasn’t expecting. He wanted to buy the Sabres. Benson tried to talk him out of it, suggesting that if he wanted to buy a hockey team, he look for one in a more palatable market. He worried that in only a few years, Pegula would regret the purchase; that he’d find out that sports ownership wasn’t all it was cracked up to be; that missing the playoffs for years in a row felt far worse than drilling in the wrong spot. “You’ve got more money than you can ever spend,” Benson told him. “What we don’t want to do is wake up one morning and look at this with regrets.” But Pegula wouldn’t hear of it. He’d become a rabid hockey fan while living in Buffalo back in the 1980s, holding season tickets for 18 years. Kim Pegula was raised about 90 minutes east of Buffalo, in a small town where her parents still reside. Pegula wanted an NHL team, and it had to be the Sabres, who had delivered plenty of wins over the years but had struggled for more than a decade. “That’s where I want to go,” Pegula said. “I want to help Buffalo.”

Cliff Benson was Terry's accountant. As the story goes he convinced Terry to buy the Sabres after Terry cashed in his oil and gas holdings in 2010.

"I like hard working, gritty players." TP 2/22/11. Now why would an owner with no intent to meddle say something like that? Why not, My goodness, that'll be up to the GM. The answer was there on Day One.

Ask @Doohicksie.

Cliff Benson sighting. Hopefully he's in town helping Terry get out of the mess he got his friend in.
