  1. It's about respect. Not clearly stating that the opponent has scored is disrespectful (not to mention confusing to the listener). The height of homerism. Amateurish.
  2. Are you assuming NASCAR fans are dumb rednecks?
  3. TBN reported today that Rick and the executive veep of PSE will meet after the season to discuss his future. My default position has always been that Rick milks these moments, creating some suspense about whether he's going to return, knowing he's going to return — and that Rick's run will end when he's wheeled out of the booth one final time. That position is being challenged a little today. Rick hasn't called a road game this season, but he's going to do the season finale on Saturday. At first, I made a major blunder in my thinking, which was that, sure Rick is retiring by calling a Sabres game in Pittsburgh, which is how it all began. For the franchise, but not Rick. Duh. Rick started in 71-72. Now, that season also started with a game against the Pens (another 2-1 win), this time in Buffalo. Blunder #2: thinking that game was Rick's first Sabres game. At least I think it's a blunder. Rick wouldn't have called that game, either, if the team's media guide is correct. The only games he called that season were 15 televised games. Radio-only would have been the Voice of the Sabres, Ted Darling. Rick's first call was apparently at Boston on Oct. 14, 1971. The game was televised. His first home call was (apparently) Nov. 21 against the Leafs. If all that's true, deciding to call the game at Pittsburgh isn't anything of special significance to Rick except it's the finale and maybe he thought it could be a big game. OTOH, it's his 50th season, the franchise DID start in Pittsburgh and if there's anything Rick loves in life besides Cupcake, beer, hockey and broadcasting, it's the joy of slipping in the last word in a crossword puzzle. A nice, tidy finish. It'll be interesting to watch unfold, to say the least.
  4. Our fantasy life of sports sure gets complicated when real life intervenes. Can you imagine a story about your MVP tweeting out the n-word on the eve of Game 7, SCF?
  5. The obvious setup would be pxp, analyst, color commentator/comic relief between the benches. Rutherford (Chris, currently doing games in Muskegon), Drury (Matt, former ECHL star and hockey podcaster) — and Ray. (Some names made up for comic relief.)
  6. I think I like this kind of thing as a way of exposing how shallow the opposition to vaccines is for most (the vast majority?). I have a brother who won't get vaccinated because "no one's gonna tell me what to do." It wouldn't take much more than a free dinner at a nice Italian restaurant to change his mind. Super Bowl. NASCAR tickets. Chik Fil A and Cracker Barrel coupons. Ammo. Let 'er rip.
  7. Haven't read the whole thread. Does the slogan mean what I think it means?
  8. You will when Tage Thompson scores an overtime goal in the playoffs and Dan comes up with, "Tage rages in the game-winner!"
  9. Richard Jewel was a real P.O.S., too. Until he wasn't. I'm not on board with conflating our disappointment in hockey players' performances with charges of rape.
  10. He's also at the end of his contract — and also "expected" to return.
  11. This is beyond obnoxious.
  12. PSE executive vice president tells TBN. Dunleavy has few fans on this board. What are we missing? And of the few fans he has on this board, how many think he's the right guy moving forward with a young and potentially exciting team? I dread that flat voice, dull personality and unimaginative style being associated with the team — and oh those Dunleavy Non Goal Call Goal Calls.
  13. Some need to be reminded how it works. The first several posts sound like assumptions of guilt. These threads are useless. No one knows the truth. What's the conversation supposed to be about?
  14. Not a big believer in it? Assuming guilt is precipitous.
  15. People were all "good!" when the story of Rich's firing came out. Reading just the link (and not clicking on it to read the story) gave the impression Rich was the one who was talking about shades of toast and women of color. All Rich said was, "OK." I'm just hoping people don't jump to conclusions. Already, rape has turned into some sort of sexual assault, by your account. Also, it seems one would need an understanding of Swedish law. Of course, it's SabreSpace. We're all Swedish lawyers.
  16. You guys understood it? Or trust the translation? I harken back to people thinking Rich Gaenzler was talking about toast when he wasn't — because a link was misleading.
  17. I know we've had our problems, but I Iove you. I always have.
  18. Ref's great great great great great great great great grandparents were pillaged.
  19. Tonight's shaping up more as Joe Daley in Boston.
  20. They took a commercial break when they shouldn't have.
