Fresh off another shutout (not in a good way), the Sabres are ready to stampede into whatever the Pens' new building is called (surely not as cool as "Igloo"). Mercifully, the game may be blacked out on GameCenter if it's on NHL.tv in your local market. Lineups: Buffalo: Jack Eichel and some other guys. Pittsburgh: two of the league's best centers that Dan Bylsma couldn't win a cup with after his first partial season coaching the team.

114 now, with another Pens game tonight. Remember how 06-07 felt and you went into every game thinking they were gonna win? That's the team the Sabres need to be just to get to 94 points this year.

I wonder if Monty Python's animation stuff would be better or worse given today's technology. After watching this, I'm leaning towards even more surreal and good.

Yeah, tough day in here. I'll put my relatively minor gripe in anyway. With all the misery on the board, I think I have to go back to just reading the OT topics. The actual Sabres-related topics are too much negativity and totally harshing what little buzz I had. I'll still do the countdown math, that's enjoyable.

I have high hopes for Pu in Rochester. As any Rochestarian will tell you, their Pu doesn't stink.

Seems like when he first got there, if ROR, the puck, and an opponent were in proximity together, you could count on ROR skating away with the puck. Almost without fail. I don't know what happened to that ROR, and that's why people are high on him; that guy should be in there somewhere.

Can't be. Players are automatons that play hockey and wait for the GM and/or coach to call to let them know. Let's face it, it's entirely likely Kane "knows" just as much as fans do: most players go downhill after 30, he's injury prone, etc.. He may not be interested in waiting around for a couple more years.

Welcome! I think your ranges on the number of moves might be a bit high, but otherwise you're spot on. 8 new guys? Maybe. I'd be pretty surprised if there are 13 new faces.

To be honest, I thought they played reasonably well last night. Long stretches of pressure, shots, and some hitting. I don't disagree that it's close to the point of needed to send a message, but this isn't the game to do it. The next stinker, however...

Maybe someone told him he has a great shot, but needs to be able to score in tight too and he's working on it. True though, he doesn't seem to have a swagger from earlier in his career, I choose to believe he feels the weigh of a Buffalo on his shoulders and is learning to bear it.

I haven't watched that closely, but on the bright side, the 6-on-5 play the last couple games has been pretty impressive. It'd help if they scored goals, of course, but they're controlling the play and not giving up ENG.

If you want to get nit-picky, the Blackhawks timeline also includes the lockout where prospects and borderline players got an extra year in the AHL/CHL/overseas leagues to develop.

Probably more accurate to say you either need great GT *or* a great offence. The Sabres have neither, and I just don't see Lehner making the leap.

Indeed, the math is nearly insurmountable at this point. The numbers say they need to play at a 110-point place for the rest of the season. The 06-07 President's Cup team had 113 points for the season.
