  1. Pegula came in guns blazing when he took over too. Unfortunately he was stuck buying out the second tier guys after the top would be agents chose to either stay home or go somewhere else. He spent on the likes of Leino, Ehrhoff, and Okposo. He tried, but he got the wrong people. Then something changed along the way and the purse strings tightened. Only time will tell if Utah is heading on the right path.
  2. It will be a good experiment to put the owner effect on display.
  3. With Bryson’s contract, that’s actually pretty easy to do.
  4. It’s pretty much something along those lines. Both sides are very new to each other. Quite honestly, I think it’s a smart approach for a guy just acquired in a trade. They haven’t had much time to talk yet and this move establishes a very defined timeline and makes it more of a priority for both sides. It is interesting though to see how much the number of players filing for arbitration has shrunk in the last couple years. I’d imagine that the increasing cap plays a big role in that. More money is available but arbitration results are going to be based off of the older less expensive contracts.
  5. Your post is perfect. That’s exactly how you’re supposed to feel.
  6. Look, I get that you hate the negativity around here. I do too. But that doesn’t mean you have to have to attempt to refute every single post that casts even the slightest amount of shade on the Sabres organization. It’s blatantly obvious that this was a bargain bin GM hiring, and this is one of those cases of you get what you pay for.
  7. So Pegula either rolled out the brinks truck for Adams or he was a low cost hire. I’ll let you choose whichever one you’d be more happy with.
  8. And you believe that? Adams himself is a cost-saving hire.
  9. Unproven but NHL ready. For once, they didn’t add another 18-20 year old.
  10. At least with Doan there’s the age factor. He’s just coming out of his ELC and is 4-9 years younger than anyone else on that list. The rest are what they are, but he’s still developing.
  11. Like Bernard-Docker, he didn’t receive a qualifying offer. So that’s your surprise right there.
  12. And meanwhile many around here are ready to write someone off after one year as a pro. Our minds have been so warped by the last 14 years.
  13. Most things have a good concept but then are quickly ruined by humanity.
  14. Fixed that for you.
  15. They’ve rushed so many players in recent years. I like seeing a few guys left to simmer a bit now. I know some might take issue, but I think it’s better for most players.
  16. So you’re saying that Kaleta’s 27-27-54 over 348 games ISN’T “definitely better” than Danforth’s 31-33-62 in 183 games?
  17. Storbak, Mertka, and Robrock? I could live with that.
  18. This makes me wonder how many teams actually see 2 hearings in any given year.
  19. Why even go back that far when we've been talking about Peterka so much? Scanning through the list of picks over the last 15-20 years or so, I'd venture a guess that their success rate mirrors that of the NHL as a whole.
  20. From now on I'm going to picture Ehlers as the first ever NHL player that takes tampering very seriously. I just assumed he refused to allow his agent to talk to anyone until 7/1 and that's why he's taking his time here. Even the scrubs don't last this long in free agency. Or he's taking the NFL approach of keeping his name in the news as long as possible.
  21. So you’re saying 2 years a $4 million second day signing doesn’t free up their top guys? He’s a nice addition, but that contract screams filler.
  22. But then still able to trade him after the year. There are worse options out there.
  23. “To keep the same hospital example”… and then offers up a completely different scenario.
