  1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Sobotka isn't normally a big powerplay guy, is he? When the goalie was out and they had the extra skater (a de facto powerplay), they kept giving the puck back to him and he did nothing with it. Made them very easy to defend.
  2. One might counter with: a bird in the hand is worth two in the b ... ?
  3. Captain Jack will get you high tonight ...
  4. He said the inventor should have spelled it differently had he wanted it to be pronounced like Jif. The standard pronunciation of "gi" is with a soft g (though, there are exceptions.) You're making a different argument: basically, that he should have used a different first word in the acronym -- one starting with a soft g -- if he wanted it to be pronounced that way.
  5. gist giant gin giraffe ginseng ginger gingerly gigantic and those are just the words that start with 'gi'. Plenty more have 'gi' with soft g in the middle.
  6. So, we went from a skidder to a Skinner ...
  7. If I had to guess, I would say yes. However, as Swamp said, we can't know. Maybe he would be superstitious and think 15 brought him good mojo*. Other than that, though, the "I've always worn 9 when I could, because it's my favorite number, and it's now available, so I want to wear it" rationale is ... well ... rational. * Note: 50 goals is a monster season, literally twice what he had last year. Would 30 be enough for the "mojo" argument? 40? Don't know, but I do know 50 is extreme.
  8. Jason Botterill: How about $924k and every bonus possible? Dahlin's agent: You're a tough negotiator, Jason, but we both know he's worth $925k. Jason Botterill: Yeah, you've really got me over a barrel on this one ... OK, deal!
  9. If you think it's odd or alarming for a player to care about a number, then you haven't played enough sports. Not saying everyone in sports is focused on numbers, but on every team that I've been involved with, there was lots of number-loving going on. Guys had favorite numbers, lucky numbers, sentimental numbers, etc, and would be disappointed to not get the one(s) they wanted. Nine, in particular, has always been a popular number, for some reason. In high school, when a guy on a team who wore 9 graduated, it was always snatched up first the next season. In short, it's totally normal.
  10. Their "40th Anniversary" jerseys were revealed in September 2010, so I would expect the 50th to be 2020-21.
  11. Oh no he di'n't! ?
  12. Hmmm ... let's test this out with ...George Carlin's History and Usage of the Word '': Perhaps one of the most interesting words in the english language today, is the word . out of all of the english words which begin with the letter f, is the only word referred to as the "f" word, it's the one magical word. as most words in the english language, is derived from german, the word "fricken[?]", which means to strike. in english, falls into many grammatical categories. As a transitive verb, for instance. john -ed shirley. as an intransitive verb, shirley . it's meaning's not always sexual; it can be used as an adjective, such as john's doing all the -ing work. as part of an adverb, shirley talks too -ing much. as an adverb enhancing an adjective, shirley is -ing beautiful. as a noun, i don't give a . as part of a word abso--lutely, or in--credible. and, as almost every word in the sentence, the -ing -ers. As you must realize, there aren't too many words with the versatility of . as in these examples describing situations such as fraud, i got -ed at the used car lot. dismay, aw it. trouble, i guess i'm really -ed now. agression, don't with me buddy. difficulty, i don't understand this -ing question. inquiry, who the was that? dissatisfaction, i don't like what the is going on here. incompetence, he's a -off. dismissal, why don't you go outside and play hide-and-go- yourself? I'm sure you can think of many more examples. with all these multi purpose applications, how can anyone be offended when you use the word? we say, use this unique, flexible word more often in your daily speech. it will identify the quality of your character immediately. say it loudly, and proudly! you! (Note: The original unfiltered version that I pasted in was 295 words.)
  13. Alas, poor Yurick, I knew him ...
  14. No. He wore #18 in the 2000-01 season, but Gare's number was retired in 2005. Tim Connolly wore 18 for two years after Miro, then nobody did for a while. I believe that he wanted 18 (wore it in Edmonton), but Grosek wore it until 2000, so he went with 81. Then, Miro switched to 18 for the 2000-01 season. From what I've heard, he had a bad start to the season, so he switched back to 81. I actually want a game-worn 18 Satan jersey, since that is the rare one (he wore 81 for at least 7 seasons around it.) My Satan jersey is a white goat head "authentic" (the on ice version with the fight strap, etc) 81. It was my first jersey ... thought it was cool to have jersey that said SATAN (i.e., the devil, not Miro) on the back.
  15. That could be cool. Also, what happens if they have another situation like the one that put Ryan Vinz on the bench a few years ago; could they bring her over for the game? First female NHL player (in a regular season game anyway)?
  16. Crosby w/ Sheary (black box w/ 87): 66 shots for per 60, 56 shots against per 60 Crosby w/o Sheary (red box w/ 87): 71 shots for per 60, 52 shots against per 60
  17. I honestly had to look back to make sure it was only six! Sure felt like more.

  19. I'd be interested in seeing whether the winner of game 6 (won an elimination game to stay alive) impacts the probability of winning game 7. Though, I would likely control for home ice, as well.
  20. Haven't either of you actually watched football? 99% of players thank God (literally or symbolically) for every big play. Someone not doing so would be the exception, not the rule.
