  2. Im not convinced they’ve ever succeeded at the second part.
  3. A lot of it stems from the fact ownership and management have different aims in priority than the fan base. It’s a little less, “I’m a hockey wizard!” - Terry Pegula, than people think and a little more “Come in on budget, and don’t build a roster so bad that playoffs look like an impossibility.” their whole thing is plausible deniability.
  4. I love +/- specifically for this thread title because it combines both mathematical symbols in sequence. It's the perfect stat.
  5. I will add that after Maxwell agrees to exonerate the cheeto in chief and gets her pardon for participating in the sex trafficking and raping of children, that because some of these crimes were committed in New York, that she can somehow be prosecuted because that pardon would only apply to her federal conviction. I need to research if the double jeopardy standard applies.
  6. They do have to get off the treadmill but do you see anything that makes you think they get this? I still see a team where Terry Pegula thinks he knows best. Thinks he knows hockey. Has an idea and is sticking with it. When it inevitably goes wrong he simply thinks my idea was right, they just drafted the wrong guys so we will get rid of them and get new guys to work with/under me and we will get the right guys this time. Constant circular process. I still believe they do it backwards every time. Maybe eventually it'll work for them but so far not even close. My belief is the opposite of theirs. It's (in simplest terms) 1. tear it all down and subtract everybody that gets you value or is a problem. 2. build the culture with vets and hard workers. Instill this into the team first. 3. Get goaltending and build a hard to play against D and team structure. 4. Add scoring talent (some of which you will have drafted during the first part). You end up with a strong culture and a balanced roster from the back end out. That's my belief anyway and it should take about 5 years to become a solid competitive playoff team. You can argue nuance and details on that and winning lotteries and other luck factors in but overall, that's the rebuild model I believe in. Pegula does not. He knows better. But he doesn't "micromanage" 🙂
  7. https://apple.news/ADLE80IPbR-az1eZ_21SdIA Needless to say, this all reeks. But I’m not surprised that a convicted felon and sexual abuser like Trump would have sympathy for a fellow convicted sexual abuser and felon like Maxwell. Everything this administration will say about Trump’s association with Epstein will be a lie, just like everything they’ve said so far. Sickening.
  8. You vote for a party and then that party gets that percentage of seats. It is how the electoral college should already work. It is insane that if you get 1 more vote than the other guy you get an entire states EC.
  9. I don't agree. +/- only tells us that players even strength goal differential. I think within a team it can tell you some things but I don't think he tells us how successful a player was. If I take Zach Benson and deploy him with Bryson and Samuelsson and he gets UPL being a sieve every night, his +/- is going to be ***** regardless of what he does. In the end, I think ppl will use the stats they like and I can't really argue with that. I use xgf% because it helps be contextualize both offense and defense.
  10. THAT is a great idea... depending on the state or country you are in... so, if the average regional tax is 4% and you are in an 8% effective tax region the player gets 4% more for taxes outside of the cap or something like that... that actually is an interesting concept...
  11. I fully understand the limitations of +\- but I disagree it should be ignored. The object of the game is to score more than the other guy. It doesn’t show if a player is good or bad, but it shows how successful a player was in the manner he was deployed.
  12. agreed, NMC's problems are not the Sabres issue... they are a result of incompetence... they should not resign themselves to futility or use that excuse in combination with taxes to blame their failure on outside influences... thats loser talk and the are the King and Queen Pooba of losers... and yes if they do deem it a problem it would clearly need to be resolved thru negotiation with the NHLPA and the CBA
  13. Six years ago Bobrovsky willingly signed there as a free agent. That was a case of someone specifically wanting the market.
  14. Of the dogs we've had: Rat terrier mix from Humane Society A very overweight golden retriever from GR Rescue A stray puppy (looked like somewhere between a Pomeranian and a Golden) we took in after it fell into a friend's pool A stray beagle puppy that followed my sons home A stray hound-shepherd mix puppy that also followed sons home A stray heeler puppy that followed my wife home And my son's (who lives with us) dog, a border collie mix from Ft Worth Animal Control They just seem to find us. My wife says when the current dogs cross the rainbow bridge, no more. I'm not ready to accept that but I don't argue with her about it. If nothing else I would like to foster dogs, particularly older ones.
  15. Yup. I’m sorry, do the sabres think they’ve earned the right to approach their offseason like the teams that *haven’t* been a dumpster fire for half my life? are you kidding me? Their specific situation needs addressing: they are an anomaly and need an anomalific approach to rise from the ashes I have now maintained this viewpoint for…6 seasons the solution to saving the team needs to be proportionally extreme to the tact that put us in the hole. Otherwise they essentially cannibalize any progress they make by timing their own players out. They have to get off the treadmill
  16. That's it right? We had to do MORE than they did because we were behind them. We didn't.
  17. Tage could be better, but okay, let's not say "bad". Some of the others are worse. Team as a whole plays open ice hockey, doesn't win puck battles, and breaks down structurally often. Absolutely on Crosby. Bergeron and Kopitar were the perfect players for me. Excellent offensively but total shut down defensively. Currently, this is Barkov, who quietly leads Florida with a perfect 2 way game while Bennett and Tkachuk etc get all the press.
  18. I think we did ok relative to the teams around us, but absolutely putrid relative to what should be expected of a team that’s missed 14 straight
  19. I think they are fine. They definitely hurt the Sabres disproportionately, but I think it’s completely fair for players to not want to move at any given moment. I think that the bigger change I’d want is that the salary cap should be tax adjusted so that each team has the same effective cap.
  20. Yes, that's part of why I said it's a complicated argument. Benson shouldn't be the best defensive forward. He is in part because they are so bad. He has been well coached and he does think the game through properly at a high speed. There is nothing about Benson's game I dislike. It still remains to be seen how effective he can end up being due to his size (as in a high end player or a mid level player) but despite his size I'd bet he's already stronger than Quinn (and some others) and he's still growing. We need to focus on his development though and not just go "oh he's fine, let him grow on his own". We both have issues with their coaching, no question.
  21. I like Kesselring. I like him as a partner for Power. I just don't think he moves the needle for the team as a whole. It will be interesting to see if McLeod continues or if last year was a one off. I have no issues with him though at this time. We just haven't done enough compared to other teams around us, that's it.
  22. Like the creative thinking of option 3. Otherwise, players have rights - and owners have rights to not offer it. It's 2 ways
  23. I don't see Cozens going the Peca or Gaustad route but if I was Ottawa (and I said a few years ago this was needed here) I'd have him in the weight room constantly. Beef up and get stronger. He's a big guy but really lanky and thin not strong. (Quinn needs the same treatment). I have no idea what Cozens will or won't be but we definitely overpaid him early and had too much faith in him.
  24. Tage isn’t bad defensively tho. A superstar is great offence and merely ok D. I think people forget that sometimes Great offence and great D is prime Crosby
