I think the Sabres interest was probably very little. Sure there might have been a phone call but Hughes coming here would have been the same as if he stayed in Vancouver. No way he would sign here so it would have been crazy to give up anything meaningful to rent him.

I could accept Appert with an interim tag I suppose, with an extended audition, will the Sabres evaluate other candidates. My guess it has to do with Power/Byram and Tuch now based on the return Vancouver got, I’d imagine they’ll be still looking at Byram/Power more I’d disagree, Hughes is a better offensive threat but lacks any physicality whatsoever
