The Hopium Den: 10 reasons why the Sabres could be better this year
Pimlach replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
Chances of all these things happening in the same season are slim. My take is this: 1 Tage Thompson is going to have a monster year Maybe. For this to happen he has to stay healthy. He has to click with a line. The PP has to improve. 2 Zach Benson is going to improve the top 6 Benson will likely improve hos game but how much that improves the top 6 is debatable. He may not even be on it very much. 3 Josh Norris will be a notable upgrade on Dylan Cozens Yes, he is definitely an upgrade if healthy. 4 Jack Quinn will replace JJ Peterka I think they were always about the same, and maybe Peterka was the slightly better player. JJP is sturdier and more reliable. We shall see what Quinn brings but I would not bank on him. 5 Michael Kesselring is exactly what the blue line was missing We don't know this. He has to emerge from a bottom 6 to top 4. I do think he could be solid and will help. 6 Josh Doan is exactly what the forward ranks were missing We really don't know how this either. He could be a solid 3rd liner that plays with grit, we need that. 7 Lindy knows the roster and they know him Ruff's legacy is on the line. His coaching staff is not impressive. 8 This defence corps is going to create a *****-ton of offence They will create offense, can they provide defense? 9 The team is going to play better defence It has to get better, but how much better? 10 The goaltending can’t possibly get worse It actually could get worse, but I think Lyon will be as good as Reimer was at the end of the season. 11 - They need vets like Tuch, McLeod, and Zucker to continue to contribute. 12 - Attitude: They have to be resilient playing in front of sparse home crowds until they can bring hockey excitement back to the region. They have to stay in the race and not fold early as usual. This team needs a chip on it shoulder and they have to learn how to win. They have to earn the right to win as McDermott says. A lot has to happen to fix this team. -
My man, that is the tippiest of the tip of your iceberg of problems. 😀

If you want a winning team, signing a mega-contract makes that unlikely. I think sign for $15 million, and enable the team to sign a secondary scoring threat for $5 million, rather than sign for $20 million and hope you can carry the team every night. The Panthers are back-to-back champs for a reason, and I find it funny McDavid would look at that team and decide he needs to make bank. I have no issue with players going for top dollar, but I think they need to be hoenst and say they are feathering their nest rather than that they want to win.

When push comes to shove in Eastern Europe, (we are already way past pushed) will Trump honor our commitment to the greatest international treaty in history and stand beside our NATO allies or will he continue to assist Putin by bad mouthing our partners and sit on the sidelines? Given his previous proclivity to suck up to Putin and being used as tool for Russian aims, my bet is on the latter. Shame.

Adam Mair Placed on Leave after DWI with 3 Kids in Car.

Adam Mair has to be pretty high on their list of targets. Still, I’d expect them to go after someone like Wayne Presley first. -
Luukkonen reported to camp injured. "The signing of Georgiev is, in part, a response to an injury to starting goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. According to a league source, Luukkonen reported to camp with what is described as a “tweak.” The team is unsure of the extent of the injury and doesn’t have an exact timetable for when Luukkonen will be back to 100 percent." https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6623272/2025/09/12/sabres-sign-alexandar-georgiev-luukkonen-injury-goalie/

Good point. I should have said “not convicted”. -
NHL goaltending is a lot like MLB relief pitching. Outside of a couple of them you don’t want to commit too long to them because they have a couple good years then tank and then move around and you hope you have the key to get them back on track. No harm in signing the guy and hoping he rebounds in some capacity. Gives some depth when injuries kick in.

NHL suspends players acquitted in 2018 sexual assault trial until Dec. 1

The legal process ran its course ending in acquittals. The legal standard was applied in the trial. And the outcome was acquittals for the accused. Because of the trial, a clearer picture of what happened in this tawdry episode is better known. The players should be allowed to place themselves on the NHL market. When teams are preparing their scouting reports on prospects character considerations are part of the evaluation. I wouldn't want any of them representing my organization. But that doesn't mean that they should be excluded from the profession if other teams are interested in them. -
I’d have to move the entire box behind the switch plate. It has 3 switches and with how this is cut into the wall, it’s a lost cause.
