Athletic fan poll: front-office confidence rankings
DarthEbriate replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
Really can't see how they managed to get a D- when F was right there. They've weaponized all that cap space once -- for 211th overall (Linus Sjodin) and to acquire Ben Bishop's contract to get to the cap floor. Once. -
Until they're no longer in the bottom 3rd of youngest teams, they'll continue to struggle.... there's not a single player or group of players that can save them, other than perhaps UPL or Levi or whoever standing on their head for an entire season.

Athletic fan poll: front-office confidence rankings

Seems about right. Get how those outside this fanbase could give them a little credit for draft and develop. But absolutely no idea how they can say there are 6 teams that manage the cap worse than the Sabres. Leaving millions in cap space every year to vaporize into the ether every time the RS comes to a close is NOT good cap management. It's actually amazingly bad cap management. -
You should get Tim Russert's book "Big Russ and Me." A lot of old nostalgia of the Buffalo (or more accurately, South Buffalo) he grew up in.

All jokes aside, he is everything Americans want to be: He wasn't born into money. In his first job, he saw an underserved market (payroll and HR services for small companies) and suggested it to his bosses, who rejected it. He went out on his own and started it with $3000 of his own money. He set his company fees small enough so small companies could afford it, and has kept them reasonable over the years. He didn't turn a profit until five years had passed. His company is still considered a good company to work for. He dislikes both political parties and believes that government is in serious need of reform. He donates a lot of money to worthy causes and endeavors.

Alex Tuch and Tage Thompson attending US Olympic Team orientation camp

Tage needs to show a commitment to a 200-foot game and play the wing all year or he will not make it. Tuch is a candidate for fourth line but would have to be playing unreal to make it. Tuch needs to show an aggressiveness he rarely does to make it. The games against Canada are mean nasty affairs. -
I mean I dont disagree with either, Dahlin comes out and wins the Norris trophy then hey... maybe... but if not, then I am looking for an off or offish the radar player to either come in or take his game to a new level... but of all the players in the front 5 Dahlin is the most capable of doing it.

Adding to what the government can do is better than not adding to it. The scale of Mr. G’s contributions in a number of different formats makes a difference to a lot of people’s lives. -
Trade for a top 5 goalie - not going to happen Trade for a Number center - not going to happen So I guess, nobody can save them. Looking at this roster on paper, I think being 5 points out of 8th on March 1st would be a miracle.

Would love to see Tage and Tuch make the team and get GOLD! -
Buffalo memories are good thread, especially for us old timers. For people in just about any era it seems that reflecting about the "good old days", even if they were not really that good, provides a psychological benefit to people. I love Buffalo and WNY nostalgia.

D meant poor but passing when I went to school. Essentially you did not learn the material adequately, but they were pushing you along. The Sabres current front office gets an F (fail). So does the one before that, and the one before that. Ranking them 32nd out of 32 is correct. -
We're talking the kinda leap that doesn't happen too often right? A player stepping into the upper echelon of the league and leading a notable improvement in results and/or hope? Like Tage in 23, Briere in 06, Hasek in 94? I don' think anyone on the roster has that in him, but I guess that's built in to the question. I kinda expect Power, Benson and Quinn taking leaps, but not to that high a level. Best bet is Levi.

Yeah, but we have had excellent/elite play from Dahlin and Tage. I expect this to continue. However, given their already elite play and yet we are still not a playoff team, the push to make it into the playoffs is going to have to come from someone else. So, the question is really, outside of the play we already received last year and the year before, who is going to have to emerge to push us into the playoffs.
