Would You Overpay and Make Zito POHO?

The bolded says it all. ☹️ -
If the vets(whomever they may be) are optimistic, I'd like some of what they are drinking. Also, I'd like to know what they mean by optimistic? Making the playoffs is a start(which is very iffy for this season), but if I'm a player, optimistic equals being a cup contender sooner rather than later. Is Tuch going to still be a Sabre at that point?
-
He was strictly a defenseman in high school and was drafted as such. He played forward maybe twice with Buffalo his rookie year and I’m not sure he played it after that. But technically you are right, he wore 6 as a forward.

Most likely stay where you are BUT..................egos can be big and if he felt he's done all he can there and it'll be a slow decline in a few years he might like the idea of a new challenge. Bill Parcells sort of thing. Unlikely, but not impossible. He would however demand complete control, a lot of money and very long term and none of that is something Pegula would consider. I wanted Dudley hired as hockey Czar way way back and there was an opportunity at one point. He would have steered this ship better than Pegula has. -
Jersey Number Updates for Benson and Norris
PerreaultForever replied to Brawndo's topic in The Aud Club
Not how I remember it. When he was drafted he was listed as both and had played both at a lower level. In any event he did play center (a little) so Benson is not the first forward on the Sabres to wear the number 6. -
Everybody liked the McLeod trade when it happened. But otherwise I agree. Your last sentence sums it up perfectly: what else could the sabres have even done? They either succeed, or tried their best It’s all we have
-
Because you are the only one that believes your bull *****.

I really needed a good laugh today.

Why did the poll leave out "The Sabres?" -

How many chefs can fit in one kitchen? -
Tuch wasn't a "Tuch type" player before he got here. Zucker was considered some 3rd line JAG when the Sabres signed him. McLeod? Who liked that trade when it happened? To write off Doan before he even steps on the ice is silly. As for your comment about standards and expectations, that assumes the Sabres choose to aim low. It's just as possible they aim for the stars and get rejected. In fact that's probably closer to the truth than the team not wanting to make impact moves. I believe the Sabres made every move they could but not every move they wanted. They improved the grit factor while losing some scoring.
-
I agree, if Tuch signs it’s a clear endorsement of Adams and a mandate for a further 5 years of the plan. It proves the fans wrong, and the team right Meh. Remember Dahlin requesting a meeting with management specifically to inform them how pleased he was with the direction? I think you are off base
-
14 years doesn't matter to Tuch. The past 4 do. What happened before he arrived isn't important. As for money, he can get paid almost anywhere. He's going to sign where he is happiest. And I have to believe he has a better sense than any of us of where the Sabres are heading. If after this offseason he's willing to sign a deal, that tells you he thinks we are trending the right way.
-
This just seems like semantics - we are saying the same thing. The context was that my opinion on the sabres is more so reflective of the state of the base as a whole. The bases’ reaction is accurately reflective of their state

Did Skinner use that contract to buy Playboy?

Or even when they selected their next GM. -
I certainly didn’t get that read off Thompsons’ interview earlier this offseason. I forget the source now, but he seemed concerned for this teams ability to turn it around. He seemed quite frustrated about it, IMO.
-
I di like the acquisitions of Doan and Kesserling for JJP. However, that doesn't mean more couldn't been done to improve the roster. The meaningful issue isn't that the Sabres are improved as it is have they improved enough to be a playoff team. You are not competing against yourself; you are competing against other franchises that are also improving. Ambling along in a road race may be good enough when you are competing against arthritic seniors. But it's not good enough when competing against serious competitors. The Sabres have been out of the playoffs for 15 straight years. Don't be afraid to raise your level of expectations for this systemically mediocre franchise. Dumbing down your standards may be sufficient for some people but it is not for me.

Or they could have just hired him the first time -
As far as fan bases go: Boston fans are harmless more 'show' than 'go'. As long you you do not bring up the Patriots cheating scandal or even hint in the slightest that Tom Brady is not the greatest football player in the history of the world by 10 miles. Stay away from that topic and you are fine with them. Philly fan can be rough around the edges. However, you are usually safe with them because they spend more time fighting each other to bother with other fanbases. Toronto fan I have found to be pretty good when it comes to the Raptors or Blue Jays. They are annoying with the Leafs but it is a step below a lot of other fanbases in terms or outright anger. With Leaf fan, it is more arrogance, or maybe even 'wanna-be' arrogance. New York fan is different breed of person. One gets the impression the sole reason many of them attend games is they are looking for an argument or fight.
-
That is why New York and Toronto are basically the same versios a city just in different countries. And people from NY city, they were it as a badge of honor that they have the 'right' to be rude to each other.

Show him the money! Zito probably has zero desire to work for TP but a promise to give him full power, not meddle and provide all the resources he wants could be attractive. Zito would obviously clean out a bunch of dead weight but it would great to see his moves and who he is able to attract. Does he bring in his own palm trees? Pipedream for sure. -

Gee... It sounds like your wife was grossly uninformed. Does she not know that Toronto is in fact the greatest city in the world? This is where the highest of the high class live... Like NYC, but as THEY'LL tell you- they're kinder and friendlier. 🙄 -

Toronto, their fans and franchise as a whole just perturb me. Every Win = Greatest Team in Hockey Every Loss = Worst Team in Hockey or they are being cheated (Unlike most, they will insist on it far longer than most. Essentially they see every Leaf like Zach Benson when it comes to penalties) -
The veteran players on this team are actually optimistic for the future. Maybe they are naive, maybe buying into the internal talk but it’s palpable when you talk to them. The results and missteps have rendered a large portion of the fan base solidly pessimistic but athletes are by nature optimistic and it would be wrong to assume that they view their circumstances in the same way as the disenchanted fan base. There is also the fact that even if Tuch signs a team friendly, market rate contract he will still make millions more then if he signs a max contract under the new CBA.
