  1. Past hour
  2. It might even be a home country discount.
  3. On the off chance I am included in anybody's "anyone" the defends TPegs - my point with the financial data is that it is total BS if he is crying poor to be cheap with the Sabres. They are cashflow positive even with this putrid product of the last several years.
  4. I don't think saying your organizational mission is to win championships is naive. In fact, it is a necessary component to winning. The Bills have that mission statement as well. His methods to do so were extremely naive. The worse false bravado from Terry was the "drill a well" comment. Most of us can see that he cares more about expenses than winning hockey games right now. Hope that changes at some point. I just don't see this team winning with Adams at the helm. Reaching the 7/8 seed in the conference is not a huge accomplishment but something we could celebrate.
  5. Oh I know one, much to the chagrin of Bills fans...Tom Brady. He gave way more than that away to give the team cap space and flexibility. Helps when you were married to a Supermodel making 2-3x what you are if not more every year tho...
  6. Yessir - - - Potentially only a two year window to make it happen - I’d imagine they’d have to at least entertain the idea of moving him during the final year rather than losing what will be a monstrous asset for nothing
  7. I mean why not just go to the time tested elixir for winning Stanley Cups? Fleece the Buffalo Sabres in trades to get their key players and put them over the top to win Stanley Cups? Worked pretty well for Saint Louis, Vegas and Florida over the last decade or so.
  8. LeBron left a bunch on the table in Cleveland - not to this level though
  9. Character concerns. Not saying the Sabres shouldn’t put a claim in, but that’s why he’s on waivers again.
  10. With McDavid and Kaprizov off the market, anyone who does want to wait until next summer as UFA will have that much more money available to them.
  11. This reminds me of a story.... "There once was a legendary hockey player, Connor McDavid, who was so good, he could practically teleport with the puck. Everybody in the NHL knew he was due for a new contract, and Everybody knew it would be a monster – enough to buy a small island or at least a fleet of Zambonis. Then, the rumors started: he signed for a mere $12.5 million a year! Everybody gasped, realizing that Somebody, a rival general manager, would surely have offered him significantly more. After all, Anybody with a pulse and a calculator could see McDavid was worth $17 million, $20 million, maybe even a blank check written on the back of a playoff banner. But here's the kicker: Nobody actually did. Not a single GM from the other 31 teams picked up the phone to whisper, "Hey Connor, we'll give you all the money." Somebody in the media got angry about it. "This is preposterous!" they declared, waving their arms wildly. "Everybody knew he was worth more! Anybody could have made a better offer!" Everybody then scratched their heads. "Well, yes," they agreed, "Anybody could have. But why did Nobody offer it?" It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody for not making a higher offer, while Nobody actually explained why McDavid, the best player in the world, signed for what most considered a laughable bargain. The moral of the story? Apparently, when it comes to Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers, sometimes the most illogical decision makes perfect sense. Or perhaps, when the best player in the world says he wants to win, he really means it – even if it means leaving enough money on the table to buy a small fleet of slightly used Zambonis."
  12. Looks to be a sub 90 point team again. Defense slightly better but could not keep Peterka, a home grown talent.
  13. He clearly took a hometown discount and is giving them extra money and two years to fill out the line up.
  14. Bowman didnt didn’t do diddly. McDavid dictated this. He is giving Stan this small window to surround him with better players. Anyone could have signed him to this deal.
  15. I agree. On the surface I want to say the NHLPA union can not be all that happy with him for taking 'only' $12.5m per year. But in the end, Edmonton is going to spend to the cap, so the union members will still get the same money.
  16. I don't think an athlete of this magnitude (at this point in their career) has ever given a hometown discount of this magnitude. Holy shnikes. (Maybe I lack context. Did Brady leave a lot of money on the table in NE?)
  17. MJD presents it cogently here: It is a perfect situation for the team. Bowman hit this one out of the park.
  18. That Edmonton press release looks like a Wheaties box.
  19. Well, shoot. He could've just waited until next summer and signed with the Sabres for that. C'mon, Sheevyn! What even are you doing? 😇
  20. When he's motivated, he can still be a world beater. Problem is, he wasn't motivated his last year at least (and arguably last 2 years) in Buffalo and he won't likely be motivated to this degree again often in Cheatland. When he isn't motivated, he's a huge distraction. Looking forward to Maye, McCown, or Vrabel looking at him crossways one time and him going back into pouty mode. (The sooner, the better. 😉 )
  21. No, he just printed the paper. McDavid wants to win with Oilers, and he dictated the terms. I can't think it went any other way.
  22. The pressure is to surround McDavid with enough talent to get a cup or he's gone in 3 years.
  23. Feel the pressure? He absolutely killed it here.
  24. How does he not demand $20 mil a year if the dude from Minnesota is getting $17??
  25. Today
  26. Or, try to get him back on the "Okposo" as a veteran leader who can move around the lineup.
