  1. Past hour
  2. Tuch is on a 28-30 goal and 65 point pace. Pretty good considering all the injuries, instability, and line changes. He is a +1 and he has been solid defensively and on the PK. But many fans here think that he is not playing good hockey. I also thought that the home town connection would help get him signed to a good contract BEFORE the season started. Good meaning coming in at 6-7 years at $8M. I actually thought Tuch would take a bit less to help him get out of Buffalo if needed. Now the Kempe deal is pointing to even more years at $10-11M. That is too much for a last place team that is facing another rebuild. Given that the Sabres are looking at a new GM, new head coach, and another retool at the minimum, I would now consider trading him before the deadline. I do think he is one of the better players on the team and his play this year is pretty much who he is. I also think this contract stuff is a distraction for him, and his wife probably wants out too. Vancouver is her home town BTW.
  3. There +1 for union and game Shall we wear paper bags for the beat down we will ensue?

  5. Only Bylsma thus far. And it turns out he really benefitted from that Penguins lineup and the "fire/hire new coach boost" in his first season.
  6. Not as good as Brent Peterson.
  7. You'll get a lot more for Tuch if you trade him now, particularly if an extension is part of the deal. The new team gets 3/4 of a season. If you wait until the deadline and he's decided to go to UFA, you're getting a playoff contender's late 1st and a tweener like Rosén who you add to your lineup next year -- and could be good down the road. Something like: inquire to FLA about Samoskevich (key piece - will be RFA at the end of the season perfect for Sheevyn, but he plays like Doan), BBQ Luostarinen (cap piece, but valuable to playoff teams and someone you could easily move at the deadline if need be), and ... their 2028 1st is the only one they have left. They want to get back on pace before 2026, because Tkachuk might not be enough. Panthers have plenty of cap next year with Bobrovsky coming off the books, plus Tuch would sign for $7M there.
  8. And invisibility at the AHL level is tougher to do. (He last played in the NHL in 2021-22, three seasons spent in the AHL as a bottom-six guy there.)
  9. LaFontaine - first time POHO Murray - first time GM Kim Pegula- first time whatever it was she did while running the Sabres Boterill - first time GM Housley - first time HC Krueger- HC for a few months, fired, became a soccer coach in Europe, then hired by Terry in a bizarre move Adams - First time GM Granato - first time HC Ruff - retread Sabres and a lazy hire instead of doing a structured coach search There are no different reasons. He keeps doing the same thing - He keeps losing. He keeps hiring people that he can control. He keeps settling for cheap and easy hires. He will not hire anyone that is headstrong on how to do things. He fears he will be cut out. He has not hired a proven winner yet.
  10. The Sabres disrespected the black goathead sweaters last night.
  11. I'll be there at Union.
  12. I'm not sure how anyone can disagree. The different reasons, as I said, just nullify that he keeps doing the same thing over and over. That's untrue.
  13. The thought of making any further trades with Adams at the helm terrifies me, but why would we want to trade someone like Alex Tuch who competes, scores, and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty ... when we should be talking about trading a jellyfish like Quinn for whatever we can get for him, like even for a low scoring grinder type player who could play a significant role if we were ever to make the playoffs.
  14. Lindy explained their game plan of how to play the Oilers and they played it to perfection. Do they not do this for every team? Since forever they fold against big, strong checking teams. Might want to work up a strategy to play these types of teams. Or, we just don’t have the personnel to succeed against those teams?
  15. Today
  16. And we need to get over the idea that he was brought here to play hockey. That very clearly wasn’t the case.
  17. We can't keep paying players big money while the on ice effort is worth half the money. If Tuch plays like a 5milj. AAV but wants to be paid the dubble there is nothing to do except a trade. A first round pick and a prospect is what we will get in that case. The hard thing is to find a replacement. We don't have a replacement in the system, we could get lucky and find another ufa like Zucker, but most likely we need to trade Byram or Power to get what we need.
  18. The thing that bugs me most about the whole Jerry Forton and his influence is how there’s a story out there that he’s close to the McAvoy’s and was pushing hard for us to draft Charlie, but we instead went Nylander. The one time the guy was right, we ignored him.
  19. Geertsen was 100% on Ruff.
  20. Yeah, so much for he and Timmons being a good pair at home at least. They lost their minds in the 3rd.
  21. Still plan on having 3 for Union.
  22. Terry has yet to hire a legitimate hockey GM to run hockey operations. Most of us here knew Adams was not only unqualified, but was his puppet. Look at his past hires, almost all are out of the league for good. Losing the 3rd period 4-0 at home, to the worst team in the league, on a back to back, right after playing their best game of the season - it was predictable and it just happened one week earlier against St Louis. The players just do not want it enough, the coaches are being ignored, it’s past the time to flush the coaching staff.
  23. Yeah, Adams needs to go. But Forton needs to be clearing out his desk the same day. Doesn't Pegula have some sort of tie to Jerry? He'll be a mole in the new guy's operation and end up with too loud a voice. Until Forton is gone, personally don't expect things will ever truly change. Yes, Adams is bad at his job and needs to go, but Forton seems to be the cancer that's going to metastasize throughout the organization. IF he survives the next purge, and personally expect he will someone be one of the survivors, would almost rather have him be the GM and take the pain that comes with him demonstrating the Peter Principle than have him merely having one of the loudest voices in the room and having Pegula's ear. Because, they're always going to do boneheaded things as long as he has input. Yes, he identified McAvoy, but he was unable to convince anyone else. Since then, he hasn't seemed to be as good at picking them, but he has found his voice in the room, unfortunately.
  24. also with Greenways injury history I am not sure I feel comfortable on counting him in....
  25. I wish I was with the concept of we need to retool or we are making progress . I would say even if we are a little, I dont see it being the type of progress that propels us to the playoffs as a relevant contending team... JMO ( you may be here as well...) but in the end I am at the... how do you fix this... (simplistic take on what would be an involved plan) A significant addition of Vet talent, an overhaul of they type of skilled player that plays with grit, Veteran leadership that by example demands 60 minutes of effort and consistency to change the over all culture of this team... If you could execute on this strategy in our current form then fine, lets re tool.... Problem to me is actually getting those players, especially talented vets, to come here via trade or FA after the longest tenure of failure in the league faced with incompetent management and ownership... So to me they need to eradicate the FO and coaching staff... hire and pay a well respected and successful GM/POHO and allow them to assess the players and situation. One that could actually convince a more talented player to come here because it is going to be different... I also accept that the decision may be blow it up, trade for assets and totally rebuild... in fact, I feel like that is the most likely outcome... but who knows... But in the end, we need to remove the we cannot obtain talent via trade or FA moniker from this team... that at this point is the scarlet letter that this brand bears as a result of multiple decades of embarrassing and unparallel incompetence and abject failure...
  26. Except, IN Buffalo, the Sabres usually play well and often beat the Eulers; and they play like trash against Calgary there too. So expectations were met EXACTLY as should've been expected. And out west, the pattern is reversed, Both the Eulers and Flames play to their normal levels and the Sabres end up expected to go 1-1 again, but the way you expected this week to go.
