To all who celebrate: Happy Leafs Elimination Day!
Thorny replied to JoeSchmoe's topic in The Aud Club
“What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge goalposts?” “No, Neo. I'm trying to tell you that when you're ready, you won't have to.” The truth of the matter is there’s a level of Final Boss fan evolved well beyond the matter of simply moving goalposts. They’ve eliminated them entirely: the logic being the rather gaslighting tact of claiming the level of fan satisfaction wouldn’t change regardless of the result, therefore rendering results in effect meaningless. Ie if you can’t be happy with the team as is, you never will anyways. -

That guy would not come here in ONE MILLION years, nor would anyone else with that kind of talent. -
What is JJ Peterka worth and what are you signing for?
French Collection replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
I think JJP compares to Nik Ehlers. I don’t know if there is another level to his game, maybe, but defensive ability has room to grow for sure. I didn’t watch all of Winnipeg’s games but Ehlers game seemed to translate OK. -
Perhaps, we may never find out.

I don't see much difference between John's proposed line and the Vanek, Roy, Max line from 2005/6. Entering that season: Vanek (age 21) 0 NHL games , Roy (age 22) 49 games w 19 pts, and Max (age 26) 332gms w 152 pts. Entering next season: Quinn (age 24) 178 gms w 97 pts, Kulich (age 21) 63 gms w 24 pts & JJP (age 23) 238 gms w 150 pts -

If we can add another Zucker and Tuch like players to the roster this offseason it will result in a lot of line flexibility and depth. Assuming that these youngsters are kept, a lot is riding on them maturing and getting better. - Today

Here we go... Wonder if Florida will have the legs to deal with Carolina tonight.

Too much youth imo. I'd want at least Zucker of Tuch taking a wing spot. Kulich is basically a sophomore next year. -

A Quinn/Kulich/Peterka line appeals to me. All players on the line can shoot and skate. Not sure if I would want them as our second line. They would make for an interesting third line. -

Sabres br(ass) love at least three kinds of fans: 1. The believers in youth turning into something in five year plans that would make the Soviet Politburo proud; 2. People who hate Leaf fans so much they buy season tickets in order to sell tickets to Leaf fans; 3. Goalpost movers who are prepared to say gotcha and organize a parade if the Sabres ever just make the playoffs, which was literally never the goal, from Darcy to Kevyn. -
In general. I disagree with your take but do heartedly agree with you about the poor roster construction and the necessity to add more grit and toughness to the roster. But let's be realistic about our talent base and player roles with a substandard team. I like Benson a lot but on any credible team he would not be playing on the first line. The same judgment applies to Peterka who also did play on the first line. There are no upper tier teams that would have had him playing on their first lines at his stage of development. Samuelsson played on the first pairing as the season wound down. And I would say that he did a decent job. But what serious team would have him playing a first pairing role? I'm comfortable in saying none. Teams with fuller rosters are able to play players in the roles they are suited for. For many players here, they are playing an elevated roll because there is a dearth of talent, at least compared to competitive teams. The mismatch is clearly due to insufficient talent on the roster. It's obvious to all that Sabres have a number of problematic roster issues. In believe that much of it can be attributed to a lack of required talent. Exhibition of class and grace.

I think Peterka has more to give. I felt his defensive game has improved and I felt we saw better decisions from him. He also played a lot with Tage and idk how many of those assists are 2nd ones. -

I think this plays right into the hands of GMKA/Pegula. Matching an offer sheet makes Adams’ job easy. And if it’s too pricey he takes the draft picks instead and complains about how hard it is to make deals and blah blah blah about people needing to want to be here. Anything that goes to 1-year in arbitration is just pushing the can down the road to next year. -

I'm really curious if Peterka has another gear. He's turned 23 and cracked the 200-game mark: was this his breakout year? Is he a 30-goal, 65-point top 6 winger, or can he graduate to a 40-goal, point-a-game star? He's young enough and he's skilled enough to take another step but does he have the processor and the will? Personally, I don't think so. But I'm not quite ready to rule it out. -

I'll say this, Peterka is a hell of a value for a 2nd round player. 27g, 41a and it's his 2nd season at 27g (had 28 last year). Also his sh% isn't stupid impossible so he's likely to maintain that. Personally, I'd like to keep Peterka because the best from him is yet to come and we're about to enter his prime years. Unless someone is offering a massive overpay, I'd keep him around. -
Watched the whole thing thank you! I remember watching this as a kid!

Would be an interesting add.

I can't decide if he is more like Samson Reinhardt or Mitch Marner. Neither are very physical, but Samson is clutch, is the definition of grace under pressure while Marner seemed to disappear in playoffs. JJP is sure not like Benson, Braydon Point or Kucherov. After watching the playoffs I wonder if him or Quinn would be the type of players you want in a playoff round. I dunno, maybe he is like Samson. Or maybe they just get run over by physical teams. Both are good skating, open ice, score from some distance away from net players, imo. -
That's because our scoring was down. If we scored the same and UPL wasn't a bottom tier goalie this season, we're where Montreal and Ottawa ended up.

He should be able to get more than Mitts for Byram, but we are the Buffalo Sabres so you will probably be right on this. -
1975 - Better hockey team, better home arena, better league, better behavior, and better times.
-
I'm not so sure about that, UPL the 2nd half of the season before we gave him the contract was playing at a very high level and we still didn't make it. Maybe if we had a goalie who played like that all season long perhaps but that would be requiring a top of the line goalie which I'm not sure will be available.

Y’all remember Max Comtois? Loved his potential when he was on the Ducks. Big forward who could score. He went over to the KHL and had a great season. He’s thinking of coming back to NHL and I think he’d make a nice bottom 6 guy. He can’t be much worse than the guys we got on that 4th line.

Agree to disagree.
