Norris showed off his speed to create a chance. Pads never got through, but thatβll be helpful this season. -

Doan had the opportunity to kill someone. Instead, only knocked him over. Would have to see the replay if it was nicely dodged or Doan pulled up to avoid the suspension shot. -

The Hopium Den: 10 reasons why the Sabres could be better this year
LGR4GM replied to dudacek's topic in The Aud Club
Peterka is pretty good at 1 specific thing, rush offense. Carrying the puck up ice and getting shots off the rush. That will be a question mark but if scoring goes down in Buffalo, it's a function of sh% over jjp not being here imo. -

The Athletics model and the JFresh model both had Peterka in the bottom 10 percent of the league in defence. (Hope I got that right from memory). By my eye test he was no where near Cozens and Quinn in terms of coughing the puck up, but defence in terms of killing plays he didnβt. He was on the ice for more goals against than any Sabres forward and all but 12 other NHL forwards. 77 as opposed to 44 for Benson. And yes he got 2 1/2 minutes more ice time, but those are significant numbers. Hes really good at offence. -
Playing hardball when virtually no players with options want to come here and you have as bad a rep as an organization as any in the history of pro sports is certainly a choice.

Yes I have. And those acts are part of the same mechanism. They provide a plausible reason to assess. Although, walking up to a stranger car parked down the road late at night (by yourself) is borderline naive. -

Per the bold, thatβs what we should all aspire to. Our Constitution and the other ideals enunciated in our founding documents make that possible, imo. Itβs not about agreeing with each other; instead itβs about living within a codified framework that makes disagreement tolerable. -

Add in a buyout of Samuelsson to add 3.25M more and you can nab either an experienced 2C-level player or go from a Lyon-level (good backup) to getting another proven starter. -

Do we even have Pittsburgh's lineup? -
I hope the team does not rush into signing him to a large contract. As others have correctly said, he will be here this year with or without an extension. Also, the charts and stats are out there regarding players, especially forwards, aging and their production. Unless you are an elite player, and even when you are, your production curve and overall 2-way play plateaus and peaks between the ages of 23-28. After that in almost all cases you are in decline. In your late 20's that decline may or may not be all that evident but after age 30, it does become evident in most cases. Unless a player is elite, someone like McDavid, Pastrnak, McKinnon, Crosby, or Ovechkin, I do not want them on my team with any more than 2 years remaining on their contract at age 32 or later, unless it is a very team-friendly deal. If a team is in the middle of cup runs like Florida, it may make more sense, however they are still likely to pay for it a couple years down the road. Buffalo is not currently looking like they are contending for the Cup. I respect those who post that they want an extension done for Tuch, and I know many fans have an emotional connection to him. I just personally would rather have the Sabres let things take their time if they are not getting a deal that fits the team short and medium term.

Peterka's backchecking was adequate. Nothing to write home about but it wasn't exactly costing the team multiples of games either. They'll definitely miss him. But IF they can now cycle like an actual NHL team with other guys; they might net out better off. Though have said it before and will continue to say it; really hate that they didn't replace the spending they'd've had to have had he still been a Sabre. Another $4MM F would help solidify this lineup and depending on who it was might be able to solidify the 2nd line allowing Zucker to be the gristled vet that still can score on an otherwise kid-centric 3rd scoring line. Doan, Kesselring, AND a $4MM guy would make Peterka's departure much more palatable.
