Sabres looking for Senior Advisor for Adams and Hockey Department

Where Shanahan goes, I wonder if Marner will follow. -
Where would you rather work? New hire Jeff Blashill who is getting his 2nd HC stint after serving as an assistant with Tampa for multiple seasons. GM Davidson who blew up the last remnants of the old guard and is now in the very beginning of a rebuild around: Connor Bedard and #3 OA inbound this season. OR Lame duck Lindy Ruff who is (retiring? moving upstairs?) next season, with next HC Appert all but appointed already by Emperor GM-for-Life Sheevyn who is in year 5 of a 10-year rebuild around Owen Power, and established stars in Dahlin and TNT who should be demanding trades beginning next summer.

Shanny has hated Buffalo ever since we drafted Pierre instead of him. -

Mitchell Marner, Unrestricted Free Agency

I also don’t bet on sports, but that is a good long shot. Aside from the cap space, the Columbus media and fan pressure would also be a welcome break from Toronto. -

Shanahan officially out in Toronto. Would be nice if they actually inquired like they gave a 💩about the organization. -

Players like Marner rarely hit UFA. This feels like when Panarian was a UFA and the Rangers overpaid for him. Say what you want about the Bread Man in the playoffs, but he did help the Rangers quite a bit. Marner is the injection this franchise, and fan base, needs. 14M AAV? Done. -
Five weeks since the Sabres season ended. Rangers let Housley go April 19 Flyers let 2 assistants go April 23 Devils let two assistants go May 9 Ducks dropped two assistants (including Tage's dad) May 10 Three of those teams also named new head coaches. I'm not sure what's normal with new assistants, but if the Sabres aren't planning to bring the band back again, one would thing they would have made a move by now.

How would you retool this team this summer?
DarthEbriate replied to GASabresIUFAN's topic in The Aud Club
But the math is important. You're starting with $24M in cap space with no RFAs accounted for. You have $31M with Norris out. Bennett, Marchand, and Cuylle, I'm saying conservatively, because of the Adams/Pegula historical ineptitude, is $23M. A top-4 RHD to be the guide for Power is... $6M plus? You're basically out of space for JJP, McLeod, and even JBD. Tuch is gone the following summer. And that's without fixing the goalie situation. Now, you're creating lineup gaps for a 37 year-old Marchand, a 1C (by pay) whose career high is 51 points, and a young power forward who plays the right way, but is still a lottery ticket just like JJP/Quinn/Kulich/Benson (all of whom are more inexpensive in their next contract - if bridged). -
Our offense would be certifiably lethal. Maybe get another guy in there somewhere on offense who has some skill, isn't afraid to take hits and who can dish them out. Replace Sammuelson (and Power - but that ain't going to happen) with a person not made of thin glass and who knows how to clear the front of the net. This could be a good team and that's before finding a goalie who is top 16 NHL caliber.

I feel the same way. That's not Marner by the way. -
My plan for fixing the team would have fixed the team. I've constantly argued for hard nosed, 200ft, players at draft time. I just don't care if they're 5'10" like Zach Benson. I've also refused to believe tall players are inherently gritty and continue to be proven correct. By all means, sign Sam Bennett. I'd be fine with that. Start a thread about it.

Dallas vs Florida SC Final. Might as well wrap the Stanley Cup in a 1040 tax return form for a better more accurate effect on today's NHL.

thumbs down war now with @LGR4GM what a surprise 🙂 I am always amused how we both hate Sabres losing so much but have such antithetical visions of how to fix it or build the team. Neither of us gets what we want so the debate goes on forever. -

Why on earth would Marner choose to sign in Buffalo?

pave over it. Fill those potholes with some of that Frakking leftovers. Get it done! -
He finished 3rd in selke voting for the 23 season and I think 17th in the 24 season. He plays defense and is good at it. Unsure of where he'll fall in this year's Selke conversation but I don't think Buffalo should complain about a top 20 defensive forward.

PerreaultForever replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
People talk about Marner's Selke votes and that he does play 2 way hockey but I'm curious as to what his defensive stats are in the playoffs? To my eyes every year that core 4 gets shut down offensively in the playoffs when it gets tough but also fails defensively and allows goals against. One year the worst guy was Marner, another year it was Matthews. One year Nylander was good another he was invisible. This year I personally thought Matthews was the worst of them but they never delivered as a whole and Marner was part of that. His size makes him less effective come playoff time as well. I don't want to follow that model. Would Marner get us into the playoffs? Maybe. Would we get past round 1? Not a chance. I'd be hesitant if I was GM to make Marner a plan as I suspect if we talked to him his agent would just use us as leverage for another deal and we'd be left hanging. So it would be one good offer and if it was not taken I'd move to plan B right away. But if I was GM Marner wouldn't be my plan anyway. As I've said elsewhere, I'd rather give the money to Bennett and Marchand if I was going to go to spend crazy. I wouldn't be shocked if the Leafs are thinking that very same thing. -
I'd root for Dallas with much more enthusiasm if it weren't for their spearmint green primary color.
