DarthEbriate Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 (edited) Le sigh. You're welcome, Amerks! You don't get to have your heart-and-soul AHL-level stud veteran in the lineup for opening night. You also don't get Kozak or either Bryson/Johnson because of injuries. Dunne should've been in the lineup and Geertsen waived to Rochester based on play in the preseason, but they had to keep Ruff happy. Now, you've got 2 fourth line low-minute energy guys at the NHL level instead of one. Edited October 10 by DarthEbriate 1 Quote
PerreaultForever Posted 3 hours ago Report Posted 3 hours ago I just want to show some more love for Dunne. I do not want him out of the line up if/when injury guys return. He has added a more physical dynamic and brought out physicality in others since being added. This has been missing for years. Utah game was the first time in I can't remember how long that the Sabres were the physically dominant team. Maybe they play bigger with Geertson around too and maybe Greenway and Doan have changed things. Samuelsson clearly plays bigger this year. All positive signs, but I see Dunne as a catalyst and he has earned his spot. Quote

Don't know if it's due to Ruff harping on physicality ordue to guys like Doan, Dunne, Timmons, and Benson setting the example and shaming the others into playing more physical. Probably a bit of both. 1 Quote

Dunne can do what Geertsen does and actually play 10+ minutes of much better hockey for you. Quote
DarthEbriate Posted 34 minutes ago Report Posted 34 minutes ago Dunne was the better player all preseason (and is the better AHL player, too). If anyone should've been the enforcer type to make the team, it should have been Dunne. And, except maybe his first game this year where he was a bit slow and took a bad penalty, he's been OK. That said, Greenway's return takes him out of the lineup as soon as the NHL guys return. He's behind Greenway, Malenstyn, Kozak, Krebs, and Danforth for 4th line minutes. Then, it's a matter of: if Ruff is dead set on Geertsen, then he's the 13/14th forward (depending on 3 goalies) and Dunne gets to go reprise his top-6 role with the Amerks. And if Ruff can be convinced to let his Geertsen go, then Dunne can be 14: but you'll eventually have to waive Kozak or Malenstyn who both bring a ton more to the ice in terms of PK and speed, or to make a trade.
