The QO is probably two way. Probably Sabres call as to whether to make it a 1 way or 2 way QO. He only played 40 games this last season and only has 131 GP the last 3 years. But IF he missed at least 20 games this past year due to being on IR or a total of 49 games due to being on IR the past 3 years combined, then yes, the QO needed to be on a 1 way deal. Know he missed time in January due to a LBI suffered in practice, but don't know how many games he missed while on IR. Good call. Quote

On the other hand, we are talking about the sixth or seventh defenseman on a team that hasn’t made the playoffs in fourteen years. I’m pretty sure whether the streak continues will have little to nothing to do with this decision. Good decisions on small issues add up. As you well know, the Sabres don’t have much margin of error. For me, I’m not inclined to give this battered franchise the benefit of the doubt. This player is a solid lower pairing player who played well last year. 1 Quote

Don’t give them the benefit of doubt for doing something the have a decanted history of doing? They did it with Bryson last year and I just figured out the other one I couldn’t remember… Jost a couple years back. And that was a mid season addition too. 1 Quote

His AAV on his last (2 year) contract was $805k. His QO would've been $866k. He would've had arbitration rights upon receiving the QO. Don't know how many games he missed this year (and in total over the last 3 years) out on IR. IF he was on IR long enough, the offer would've needed to be a 1 way offer. He didn't qualify to automatically get a 1 way offer from games played. 1 Quote

Would JBD happy with being scratched for long periods of time like Bryson is? That was a selling point per Adams for the Bryson extension. Edited 12 hours ago by Brawndo 1 Quote

GoPuckYourself Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago (edited) We're penny pinching guys like Bernard-Docker and really expect some top level free agent tomorrow? I'm fully expecting to hear the KA press conference about how he tried but nobody wanted to come here speech. If we do not get at least some upgrade in net (and thats at the very least) and they roll with Levi/UPL again it's over before it even began. Edited 10 hours ago by GoPuckYourself 1 Quote

How do you need to throw in the 2nd in that Norris trade if you've already had to throw in Gilbert and ALL you want is Norris? 1 Quote

The sabres didn't want him and he was an extra body for the blue line just in case a 2006 happened. He played 4 games for Ottawa. That doesn't explain any of the Bernard-Docker stuff though. The Sabres clearly had some interest in him at that point. Quote

Of course, he could as easily get an offer sheet this week that crosses the Sabres' EEE internal threshold for combined goalie salaries for the team. Someone offers Levi a little bit of cash and Adams can recoup a 2nd rounder to trade for a 7th D-man at the deadline. 1 Quote

Honestly I could see it going either way at this point. I could see a scenario where the additions the other day have made him expendable in their minds… or other upcoming plans could as well. But at that price tag, there’s almost no cost to keeping him around. 1 Quote

How do you need to throw in the 2nd in that Norris trade if you've already had to throw in Gilbert and ALL you want is Norris? It's the genius of Kevyn Adams. Use a 2nd rd pick for 15 games. JBD (age 25 today) - 144 NHL games 6g 18a -1, 241 blocks, 122 hits, 6'1 198 Timmins (age 27 in Sept) - 159 NHL games, 6g 40 +21, 167 blocks, 137 hits, 6'3 218 Isn't this a coin flip? I'd take the younger guys who actually looked decent in his audition playing next to Power last season. However we must defer to Mega-mind Adams. It's not like he's ever made a bad personnel decision. 1 Quote
PotentPowerPlay21 Posted 7 hours ago Report Posted 7 hours ago If anybody is wondering why Kevyn Adams still has a job consider this example: In the 2021 draft the Sabres selected Aleksandr Kisakov with the 53rd pick in the 2nd round. At 5'10" and 150 lbs it was an "impressive" selection. Well today Kisakov was cut loose by the Sabres who declined to qualify this RFA. On Sunday the Toronto Maple Leafs re-signed Matthew Knies to a six year contract with an AAV of $7.75 million per year. What makes this relevant is that Knies is 6'4" and about 230 lbs and he was drafted after Kisakov with the 57th pick of the 2021 draft. Kneis scored 29 goals this year for the Leafs. Now when Kevyn Adams says they want to be tougher to play against it makes me wonder why he passed on Knies and selected a 150 lb. nobody. If you add up all these Adams/Forton mistakes over the years, it is easy to see why they haven't made the playoffs for 14 years. Pegula loves him though! 1 Quote
