A city that is not on every players no-trade clause. Expect the same for any player looking to get traded. Buffalo will only be able to get free agents by overpaying by a ton. The reputation here is so beyond awful that I really think this team will never recover. Drafting is there only chance from here on out.

Couple that with the Mickey Mouse GM.

We’re talking roughly Krebs and a 2nd?

Roughly correct.

I don't like Zegras and I do wonder why Anaheim (who many people think are going to push for the playoffs now) decided he wasn't a fit for that so clearly they think he's a lost cause, but that's a low risk price for Philly. If Zegras can get it together now that's a heck of a deal for Philly.

I have trouble reconciling a team built around the likes of Michkov and Zegras in Philadelphia. Interested in how they complement that.

I'm going to guess Briere saw it this way. We need a skilled center. I can get this guy cheap. Maybe Tocchet can get him to play to his potential. If not, he's a placeholder for whoever they draft 6th overall this year and is likely the guy in 2 years.

idk if him being Drysdale's best friend matters and it might even be bad but who knows, Zegras still makes me think of this and likely always will:

This might’ve been asked already, but could this weak return for Zegras lower the market for other player trades?

Maybe but I think Zegras was wildly overrated because of that stupid lacrosse goal.

3 teams in New York!

this is interesting

Russians love the Rangers.

Makes Schnieder and Miller more likely to be traded.

Doubt it. Zegras had issues. Declining production, injuries, doesn't play defense. I think a lot of teams weren't interested. Philly willing to gamble since they have the assets to trade without affecting anything else.

Michkov-Zegras-Konecny as a line could be sick, but probably have a lot of goals scored against them too. Might be entertaining though. Maybe they'll Michigan pass for a double Michigan.

If you trade a 2nd and Krebs for Zegras, you can't trade a 2nd or Krebs for something else.

Yep, always best to see how the whole think plays out.

Two players the Sabres could use have moved for prices the Sabres could afford:

If when the dust settles we’ve improved more than Marchment and Zegras for Krebs, good.

I think other GMs might have hung on to Zegras a little more tightly.

I can’t think of another GM more likely to be annoyed by him than Verbeek.

Is NHL GM the toughest GM job of all the sports? You win (or lose) the Stanley cup and literally have to start thinking about resigning players, the draft and free agency immediately

NBA is the same in every way you mention, but being an NBA GM is easier because there are fewer players to manage, and talent is easier to evaluate because guys are ready to play right away. I have come to the conclusion that NHL and MLB teams are much harder to build than NFL and NBA teams.

I don't see that.  I see his poor attitude, play style and injuries as the reason for the poor return.  I loved the kid at the world juniors, and he has talent.  He definitely needed a new lease on life.  Briere would be a great be at mentor id think.

I know we are all wrapped up in the KA banger of a press conference but the NHL keeps on chugging

- sounds like Hertl may be on the move from Vegas, it sounds like an Eastern Conference team, possibly Carolina. If so thats Vegas opening space for Marner

- I have seen other tweets saying Gavrikov is likely headed to the Rangers. If so you would have to beleive they have to move at least one dman, Borgen, K Miller, Schnieder, or Soucey

From Kypers 2.0 Trade Board on Sportsnet.ca:

www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/real-kypers-off-season-trade-board-2-0-who-could-go-this-summer/

Beyond Marner, the team that is getting the most calls in the league are the Buffalo Sabres. Many teams anticipate that the Sabres are itching to get something going, with key names such as Bowen Byram and JJ Peterka potentially available.

But this is just scratching the surface about what’s being discussed around the league.

Bo Byram - Pressure is mounting on GM Kevyn Adams to get the Sabres on track after the likes of Ottawa and Montreal leaped over them and into the playoffs this past season. It’ll be a delicate balance to not fall back in a rebuild, while also exploring trade options around a few very solid players.

One of those is Bowen Byram, an RFA this summer who is only two years away from being able to become a UFA. It’s possible Byram becomes a target for an offer sheet, though he could also seek to slow walk himself to the open market as a 25-year-old.

Where does that leave Buffalo? They have already invested tons on the blue line, with Rasmus Dahlin making $11 million, Owen Power at $8.35 million and Mattias Samuelsson at $4.285 million, all on long term deals. If Byram’s extension is around $7 million, will Buffalo be spending too much on its back end? The left shot defender is only 23 and coming off a career-best offensive season so if the Sabres do move him, they should be able to nab a nice return.

JJ Peterka - At first glance it doesn’t seem to make a lot of sense why a player like JJ Peterka, who had a career-best season with 68 points and was Buffalo’s second-highest scorer this past season, would be on this list. Just 23 years old, he would seem like a great player to move on into the future with, but this situation isn’t so clean.

Peterka is in a strong position because there aren't a lot of players out there who scored as many points as him at such a young age, and he's an RFA. The Sabres should be happy to re-sign him, but the question is: does he want to stay? He's a young player who knows this team hasn't made the playoffs in 14 years and will want to know where are things going. Peterka wants to play in the playoffs and find success, so may not want to commit long-term yet. That leaves Buffalo in a hard position of figuring out how to replace his production if they do have to trade him.

They quite literally don't have to trade Peterka.
