Friedman:

According to multiple sources, the Anaheim Ducks are in “significant discussions” with multiple teams on a Trevor Zegras trade, and the likelihood is growing the talented 24-year-old forward could be traded this week.

Do we think he'd come cheaper than Rossi?

Do we like him any better?

Sabres have been interested in the past

I just dont know enough about Zegras

Rossi I know is good defensivley and does play physical and with some bite

From what little I know, I think Zegras has none of those qualities, excellent offensivley but thats about it

Zegras is a little “female dog”.

I think Rossi is a better player.

Zegras does have a playmaking element that he doesn't and the Sabres also lack. Might help the PP.

He's in the last year of $5.7M deal and will be an RFA at the end.

I agree 100% w. Perreault were.   I'd be fine trading prospects ideally not named Kulich and Helenius and picks.

Is Rosen/Walbach, Quinn and a second to low?

Given the Zegras trade that's more than enough but I'd still be fine with it.

I know Byram for Rossi could be viewed as sort of spinning the wheels, but Rossi on our team would be more valuable than Byram. I could think of worse trades (you listed them above).

Rossi and Foligno for Byram I would do.

They might. Foligno's getting pretty old. Rossi doesn't fit there so if they value Byram it's not a huge ask.

Maybe for Peterka they would do that....and I would too to be honest. I know Foligno is older but when we traded him that was just a terrible day, I havent forgiven that deal ever.

Rossi + Foligno for Peterka and Id even add if needed, there is your two forward additions, then all your efforts move to reshaping the back end

Is Rossi really an upgrade from what we have?

They aren’t the same player, but I have a real fear that Rossi kinda slots the same way Casey Mittelstadt does: he’ll get you 50 or 60 points as your 2C and get overwhelmed in that role in the playoffs.

He really slots best as a sheltered middle-sixer on a team with two matchup horses (Point/Cirelli, Barkov/Bennet), as opposed to getting leaned on in a centre spine with Norris and McLeod.

I’d be happy to add him, but happier spending the price on someone else.

Hard to say. I think he's an upgrade on Quinn. In the long haul I'm not sure if he's better than Kulich might be. He's like a lot of what we have in many ways.

Peterka for Rossi straight up then?

This I would not do. I think Peterka is better.

Yes bringing foligno back for a big body who knows the area is a HUGE yes!

I think Rossi wasn’t treated fairly this past season. He’s an actual 2-way forward who put up 60 points. Sort of the same production we traded for Byram, but at least this may seem sustainable. He entered the doghouse in the playoffs because they placed him on the 4th line and as a result, played like a 4th line player. The guy is 23. I think he has a great chance of becoming more consistent. I view him as as a McLeod with a higher ceiling. I’m with you though, I wouldn’t send them Peterka for him unless more is coming back.

I think Foligno’s best days are behind him, but still would be a positive addition, even if we’re paying him $4M for the next 4 years.

We lack a 1C/2C pending where we play Tage/Norris. To me we lack a 2nd line as I don't like Benson in the top 6 and Norris a major question mark as is Quinn. Would I trade JJP straight up for Rossi? No due to age and think Peterka the 2nd best goal scorer on the roster.

You don't like the best defensive forward on the roster in the top 6?

Only if he can contribute 45 or more points. Back in Cup run days our best defensive forward was Peca who was on the 3rd line.

You don’t think he can contribute 45 points in a consistent top 6 role?

I’m pretty comfortable with that considering he put up 30 as a teen in a lesser role.

Also, the only way Peca was on the Sabres 3rd line was if you defined 3rd line as “matchup line”.

He led all forwards in ice time during the run to the finals with 21:44 a night.

Yeah I'm old school that see 3rd liners as defenders, top 2 lines are majority of scoring and 4th liners are grinders that don't kill you with bad defense. Benson to me isn't a great on offense. He might get to 45 in three or four seasons but see it next year for sure.

Ok I will elaborate ... the title said the "Sabres interested in Marco Rossi..."  my response was Yes I am interested in Carrie Underwood too...  the dripping sarcastic innuendo is that they have as much likelihood in getting Marco Rossi as I do Carrie Underwood...  essentially saying, I dont believe us getting Marco Rossi is likely to happen.

If you think you really had to explain that for people to catch the humor, the reputation and sense of humor of this board has sunk like the Titanic. 🥹🤣

I was actually going to type something very similar, but thought, no need.
