But we control his rights for the next couple of years. He is not a UFA

agreed.... but if we dont match him he leaves... and it sounds like we are not even ball park what he wants and if he really wants he can clamor for a trade... and that makes a whole other pile of stew...  ultimately I think Adams lets him sign a FA tender doesnt match and takes the picks...  it may be the best he can hope for...

the last thing they need right now are draft picks.  They need 25-29 year old vets who are good NHL players that don’t ignore the defensive zone.

Lol, I love it when ppl fear monger. The NHL isn't interested in relocating, they want expansion fees.

Such naïveté. The only reason Buffalo has the Sabres is legacy. The city would never be considered for expansion today. Buffalo might as well be Toledo or Peoria.  The Sabres are worth just above a billion right now.  NHL teams in the top 10 markets are worth between $2-3 billion. If an Atlanta group wanted to, they could pay Terry a billion and a half, then pay a billion to the NHL in a relocation fee, and it would still be worth it to get a team and avoid the expansion competition.

No one is going to spend a billion to keep the Sabres in Buffalo, a small market to begin with that just lost 35% of it's cross-border market thanks to the current administration. The day the Sabres are sold starts the countdown to relocation. Let's hope that Terry gets it right eventually like he did with the Bills.

There are 4 “core” type players who should be moved this summer and JJP isn’t one of them.

You don’t trade away your best young offensive talent.

The players they need to move our guys who aren’t living up to their contracts or our surplus talent.  Those four guys are Power (or Byram), Samuelsson, UPL and maybe Quinn.  That’s it. The truth is the odds favor trading Byram and maybe Quinn.

All the stories about JJP hating it here, Dahlin yelling him, JJP can’t play two way etc are all just noise and the odds JJP is getting trading are about 5% or less. Seriously who are you replacing him with if traded for D help? Quinn? Rosen? Benson? Kulich? If not them, then you’d have to bring in someone else without an NTC/NMC.  Good luck finding someone without trade protection with JJP’s production.

True, but Adams does not think like this (see bold).

It would be just like Adams to trade JJP for a defenseman that is very similar to what we have, and then "hope" that Quinn or Rosen or Benson replaces his 28 goals and 60 points.

Cool story. Also condescend harder next time, it was tough to pick it up with the minimal context clues you gave.

When Golosano sold the team to Pegula there was a clause that stated that if the new owner wanted to later sell the franchise, he couldn't sell it to anyone who would move the franchise. Is that clause enforceable or can it be worked around? I'm not sure. But even if he wanted to sell the franchise to someone who wanted to move it, it would from a PR stance be awkward for him because he's invested locally in the community with the Bills and Bandits.

The best thing that TP could do for this franchise and fanbase is to sell the team and walk away with a tidy profit. Since he bought the team, a generation ago, he has manifestly proven that he is inept and incapable of learning from his mistakes. I'm tired of his foolishness in the hockey business. He may be exceptionally talented in the oil and gas business but in the hockey business he's proven to be an incurable failure. I'm tired of his foolishness.

If this is true then 1) the Sabres stay  2) Terry will remain the owner.

Putting on my JJP Agent Helmet....

My client has already effectively replaced Jeff Skinner in the lineup. Skinner had one year riding Eichel's coattails for which you rewarded him 8x$9M. The cap ceiling is now much, much higher. Skinner then gave you one career year since then and otherwise, my ascending young client has already outdone all the production of the previous top-line player. If JJP gets to play with Norris-TNT or TNT-Tuch, somewhere in an 8-year term he'll outdo Skinner's career year. You need to be able to pay him first line cash ($9M).

If not, we'll sign an offer sheet at 7 which you can feel free to match. And my client will bet on himself and a much higher cap next summer and Tuch headed to UFA. Everybody wins. Happy to do business with you.

At this point, who cares. They’ve destroyed their fanbase’s passion for the team.  I’m ready to root for the Mammoth.

Personally, if the right GM was brought into this organization RIGHT NOW, Tage, Dahlin and probably Tuch aside, I would not be afraid to trade anyone on this roster.

We have the flexibility and pieces that a sharp GM would SALIVATE over to take this team to the next level. And any good GM that comes here knows, they can't go anywhere but up.

But Pegula has some strange fascination with Adams, so it won't get any better.

From Harbor Center rink manager, to head of Business Operations, to GM of Hockey Operations -  all while under the care and tutelage of Uncle Terry.

I don't care if you believe me or not. It doesn't change reality.

Oh you wont get me to disagree with that... but we are talking Kevyn Adams who let this get to this point... If Peterka is adamant about not coming back then literally he may be only left with the option of letting him get offer sheeted and walk for picks...  The other option is to trade a restricted FA before the draft and what are you gonna get for that... not to mention the no trade clauses he has to deal with....  and if you trade him there is a really good shot you watch the team you traded him to let him go via Free Agency and get 2 or 3 1st rd picks as you are walking away with another Josh Norris or Malenstyn...  Now, if he can trade him and get a 27 year old two way player that comes in and helps us etc better than Peterka and for what we are willing to pay Peterka... awesome... but how likely is that to happen...  I feel like we let him get offer sheeted and take the picks... or Trade him for less than market value and get a typical Adams return...  which is likely to be an aging veteran like Zucker or a mid range player like Malenstyn or a flawed prospect that is younger than 27...  maybe  I am dead wrong but lets see how this plays out... I am picking the worst possible scenario with Adams at the helm... sorry if I am too jaded at this point.

Where does it state a 35% drop in the Sabres STH base?

Was providing you evidence that border crossings are down since you called it conjecture.

Sorry, "wild speculation"

It's definitely head scratching what's going on.  KA if anything, is too nice and accommodating.  I doubt JJ not wanting to be here (if true) has little to do with KA personally.  Maybe the losing, which is of course tied to KA but if this young man is pouting because of that, then get.  Who does he think he is?  I'm tired of these young whiners wanting veteran treatment.

No way we are giving up JJ. Give up a 30 goal scorer under contract. If he was miserable and still put up almost 30, imagine if this team does the right thing and gets the pieces we need to make the playoffs!!

The problem isn’t so much the Sabres giving up on the player as it is the players giving up on the franchise. If you don’t know what I’m talking about refer back to the Jack and Sam departures/escapes. It’s not surprising that when a player feels “stuck” he works to get “unstuck”.

I questioned the 35% drop in STH base, not that border crossings in general are down.

If anyone doesn’t understand how aberrant a Pegula owned franchise is should read your description of the KA rise in the organization. It demonstrates how abnormally managed and plagued this franchise is. It goes beyond being described as pervasive incompetence to outright weird. Unimaginable level of stupidity.

I never said season ticket base. I said drop in market, as in the number of people who could choose to attend a game. The fan in St Catherines or even Fort Erie who doesn't want to risk a Sabres or Bills game because his might be the car that gets taken apart by CPB because they're bored that day.

Still speculation that the Sabres may lose a huge portion of Southern Ontario “fan base” because of the current US situation.
