Sabres makeover

  1. 1. What do you think is the most likely scenario this summer?

    • Kevyn Adams mostly stays the course, with typical mid-roster and assistant coaching moves
    • Adams makes several changes, with some big names being moved in and/or out
    • A new GM/POHO will be brought in to guide any makeover, with Adams being fired, or shuffled into a hands-off role.

What are you talking about? I have already said McLeod was a good deal but we needed to make more of those.

Zucker was fine but didn't really move the needle. He was a mid level aging forward with an injury history that devalued his worth to many teams and so he came here when we overpaid him. Okay, that's fine, but it wasn't anything miraculous. It was a usual underwhelming free agency. You've got used to a very low bar my friend.

Adams is in his 6th year and he still hasn't filled the glaring holes on the roster. You know the second he realized he might be drafting Power he should have been searching high and low for a veteran D partner for him. Should have made that happen regardless of cost. But no, we're just going to have "development years" and let these guys flounder and develop bad habits. Sure, why not. Fly little birds fly, be free!

Ridiculous franchise. Ridiculous GM.

Go back and read your response to my post.

Why does Terry fly to Montreal to give his “the answers are in the room” speech to the players?  This organization can’t be so incompetent that they think that the speech will turn things around when they desperately needed help. But again this is a team that thinks the coaching staff is fine and the goaltending is fine so I have no clue.

The messed up part about this is that we probably care more than the players do. Right now Tuch is probably making a baby in his mansion without a care in the world while we’re on here talking about coaches, assistants, new players etc , sometimes it sucks to be a fan.

Canucks tried to trade for Norris at the deadline but it hit a snag and he went to Buffalo. Norris and Quinn Hughes are good friends.

Lets get Stupid: Norris,, UPL, #9, prospect for EP40, Demko, 😛

I really badly want Norris traded because I simply do not believe in his health and his ability to stay healthy.

Demko has said he wants to stay in Vancouver. I don't know if that matters or not, but if so I don't imagine he'd want to be in Buffalo long term. His injury status also concerns me. I am not however, trading UPL until after we have established another goalie here. I want Levi to have to force a player out and the goalie issue being too many goalies and not a thin crop reliant on Levi stepping up to succeed.

Get a better D and the goalies will look better too.

If you deeply believe that Norris can’t and won’t stay healthy, then why do you believe other organizations won’t have made the same assessment?

Not everybody is going to believe what I believe. I think Ottawa likely felt that way but Adams didn't. Maybe there's others who feel he's worth the gamble. idk.

Your logic is confusing. As you point out, Adams apparently didn’t feel his injury history was an impediment in dealing for him. So why would he trade him?

$8 million for Norris who can’t stay healthy is so Sabres. I’d rather roll the dice on EP40 if I can move Norris in the deal. I have more confidence in EP40 returning to form and being healthy than Norris.

I have no confidence in UPL. If I can roll the dice on Demko returning to form for one year then I take it. If he doesn’t then he is a UFA after the season and you walk away.

Something significant has to change to change the Sabres fortunes on the ice. Take some swings.

It shouldn't be forgotten that our GM dealt for Norris knowing his injury history. Why would he deal his new acquisition before seeing him play in a Buffalo uniform? The questions that you are bringing up about his injury history are the same concerns that KA considered when he traded for him. He still decided to acquire him. The notion that our GM will trade him so soon is improbable.

Why do you, and so many others, feel we have to overpay on every trade?

There is no reason to include #9.   It skews the proposal right off the bat.

Why did he trade Mitts for Byram and then admit one year later that he is still not sure how to use Byram?  Same reason you trade for an oft injured player that makes more money than your best forward.  Because he has no plan for what a winning roster is.

Adams is focused on winning trades, instead he should be looking at the roster as a whole and with a plan on what kind of team he wants.   He has no vision for a winning NHL team.  He cannot define it or see it.

He took Norris because he wanted to get rid of Cozens and they both were overpaid problems to their respective teams.  Not because he sees Norris as a critical piece.

Adams doesn't know what he is doing is the best way to say it. He really does not.

Jarmo should be handling all the trades and the NHL roster make up from this point on.

Adams is a goofball. That’s certainly not a revelation to me. The notion that Jarmo should be working for this Clara Bell GM is an oddity in itself concocted by a buffoonish owner. KA should be Jamo’s morning coffee boy. If you expect rationality emanating from the ownership suite, keep waiting. It’s a generation and still counting.

Do you feel EP40 and Norris are equal value?  Do you feel Demko and UPL are equal value?  I don’t think they are close.

I like a healthy Norris better than the current EP40, who I consider to be soft and lazy and not the kind of player I want to build around.   I want the team to be built like Florida, EP40 is not going to get us that.  Is he "better" than Norris, when he wants to be he is.

Demko is better than UPL, but maybe he isn't in another year or two.  Throw in Rosen and/or a #2.   I prefer not trading for EP40 at all.

A lot my feelings are driven by the playoffs right now, and I would rather spend money on two years of Marchand and bring in a player who gives a dam than EP40.

Without question, Mr. Bell was more professional at his job than than the Howdy Doody GM who works for the Sabres.

Perfectly fair. I just don’t rate Norris very highly. $8 million for a guy that has passed 35 points once in his career and you can’t count on him to stay healthy. I feel to get rid of his contract you are going to take on a risk back. EP40 is far from perfect for me but if Vancouver was interested in Norris he is the guy I would want back.

The bigger question is why trade for Byram if he doesn’t fit?   Why trade for Norris if he doesn’t fit?

what is Adams actually trying to build?

I just hope Jarmo takes a bigger role than advisory.

If you start with the premise Adams is an average intelligent person, he made those trades because he could, no more thought than "I can make this trade"

It takes more intelligence to fit all those pieces into a ever changing puzzle.

Adams lacks 2 things. He's not smart enough to make moves 3 or 4 ahead. So he's a poor planner. And the 2nd thing he lacks ruthlessness and needs ppl to like him and he needs to like ppl. He doesn't understand the fundamental underlying truth, all pro sports are a 0 sum ruthless game.

So he keeps players he likes personally in some loyal belief they'll work out and he makes moves without thinking how it will impact the next move and the next move and the next move.

I totally get the trepidation over Norris’ health, and we all have different valuations on players, but I don’t understand why people don’t see a fit.

They thought they had a long-term 2C in Cozens. They were wrong.

They traded him for what they thought was the best replacement 2C available.

I mean you needed a centre and you weren’t getting Sam Bennett for Dylan Cozens.

Why doesn’t Norris fit? Or am I just misreading what people mean by fit and they actually just mean his health?
