Beaulieu reached for a puck and guy skated by and just hit it out. John Carlson clamped down on Okposo's stick and just ripped it out of his hands.

Thanks for the recap.

So, basically, it was Beaulieu being Beaulieu & an uncalled penalty (holding the opponent's stick) that caused that. So very Sabrey.

Yep, although, with Okposo, it was one of those "they usually call hooking even though it's the other guy who is clamping down on the stick with his elbow" type of plays.

As I said on the other post ERod needs to go. His turning his back on Risto on the empty net was tank worthy but should get him benched... stupi stupid stupid.

And as I said on the other thread:  No way you can pin that on ERod.  Totally Risto.  What do you want?  ERod to skate two feet away to make sure he won't miss the pass?

Actually you want ERod skating away from Risto while Risto draws the pressure.  Once the pass is made (if made properly), the pressure would have been defeated *because* ERod was skating away from Risto and would have received the pass with forward momentum.

Sure but backwards so he keeps his eye on the puck. Its an empty net. Not ennough of a wiff that he couldnt get to it.

Which way his eyes were pointing had nothing to do with that play.  Even if he's looking right at Risto, his momentum was carrying him the other way.

Risto was under pressure empty net and puck was close enough shouldnt have had so much mo in that situation should have stayed close ps not just eyes but whole body position.he turned his whole body away. Could have put on breaks while skating backwards and gotten to that puck. Again empty net protect first dont assume.

Infuriating from Housley ...

“Give them credit. Good teams find ways to score goals. I do like how we responded in the 3rd. That’s how we have to play for 60 minutes.

We've just hit 60 games - really Phil ?

The other infuriating aspect - this has happened all too frequently - where the Sabres come out and coast for the first period or two.   Then they turn on the afterburners when the other team is trying to protect the lead in the latter half of the 3rd period.

Housley frequently seems incapable of having the team ready to play at the start of period 1.

And also, Housley does not seem able to get his team ready to play matinee games - they haven't won one yet this season.  Housley is too soft, too easy on his players, I suspect.   Perhaps he's a "Participation Trophy" sort of hockey coach?

BTW,  this team is already on the cusp of playoff elimination.   If they won every game left in the schedule, that's 89 points tops.  One more loss puts them at 87 points theoretical,  and 88 points for practical purposes is the fewest amount of points a team could have and squeak into a wildcard berth.   And it's only February 20th - amazing how the team continues to go downhill!

I bet even Risto isn't blaming ERod.

doubt it still need Erod to come thru and with an empty net you protect first. Doesnt take away from lack of awareness on erod

You're really not going to let this go are you?

That play was 100% Risto's fault for doing something idiotic with the puck instead of just making the simple, responsible play. Rodrigues isn't the whipping boy you're looking for.

I just watched it about twenty times. His take is even more ridiculous.

gonna need to diagree then

watched it live was wondering where erod was going.

He was going where he should have been going. Risto should have gone D to D, then it would have been an easy pass from Scandella to ERod with speed.

A no look behind the back pass with a guy right there and an open net was beyond stupid.

A really bad idea to be playing the puck in front of one's one crease in one's own zone - even when the goalie is there -Buffalo has been burnt many times by pucks passed (and turned over) in front of their own net.

However, it's just a whole 'nother level of dumb to do so in front of an empty net.  A disastrously bad decision by Ristolainen.

Rodriguez didn't look like any ball of fire, that's for sure, and didn't pick up on Ristolainen's intent.  A better player than Rodriguez might have been able to read it better and possibly salvaged the puck and saved the goal.

However, Ristolainen had control of the play and the puck and it was just a terrible decision on his part to leave it in front of his own empty net.  Period.

Risto fanned on pass,no question, but erod turned his back on play. Had an open net, protect net first is really quite simple.

Both of them should sit.

. Absolutely, this wasnt the only gaff erod made during game... not covering boards, bad passes.. he had a crap game. Edited by Kottbullar

Gotta agree, it’s on ERod.

ERod is the name of the big Finnish D-man that was f**king around with the puck in front of an empty net, right?

Definitely on ERod.

Yeah, like there was that time he actually shot it into the other team's goal!  Whoa, awkward!
