And make good beer. There are quite a few of us home brewers on this forum.

I agree... I'm one of them.. allow me a moment to show off the beer porn (the freezer has a 14.5 gallon conical)::

Buying your setup is cheating !! :P

Nice looking rig. Much nicer looking than mine.

I didn't bother to take pictures of the 5 different renditions I had before this.. the coolers, the buckets, the manual siphons, etc. I've been there.. and thanks.

Just razzin' on ya anyway. Those kettles look darn purty. And a march pump beats the hell outta hauling 10g of water up to the top of a gravity fed system.

However, the beer is not designed to be served at warmer temperatures. Similarly Guinness is not designed to be served at 35 degrees either, it tastes pretty miserable there.

And yet, last time I was in the UK, almost every pub had "Guinness" and "Guinness Extra Cold" (two separate taps). I think the bartender said they were poured at 42 and 38 degrees, respectively.

You are correct and I misspoke, thank you for pointing it out. Here is a good conversation on it: http://cheaptalk.org/2009/06/20/what-is-the-recommended-serving-temperature-for-guinness/

I shouldn't say you can't drink it that cold. I think you lose some of the roastiness of the malt (at least what there is of it). In addition the sourness of Guinness comes through as it warms up (and we're only talking about 10 degrees here). Some people aren't going to like it. I'm not a huge Guinness fan.

The other welcome addition to being colder is that the nitrogen gas mix that Guinness must be served with will cause a much creamier head in the beer at colder temperatures.

Thanks for the link, good reading. And, I wasn't playing gotcha with you there. I was trying to point out that as much as we make fun of American beer habits like drinking it really cold, across the pond they're not that much different. The poster formerly known as LimeySabre may chime in, but realistically, there are plenty of people (perhaps more) over there that drink Stella, alcopops (wine coolers), and apparently Bud than traditional ales.

I thought it was funny... I guess not many others thought so. <shrug>

I thought it was very funny.

As for the others not responding ...

Any reasonable person would assume that the lack of response, in spite of all the bandstanding to the contrary, means that they really like that "piss water" commonly known as "Bud".

Back to the OP, that commercial IMO was way better than the stuff they ran in the super bowl locally. That had some serious authenticity that is hard to replicate - better than watching clydesdales running in circles...

Pretty cool stuff there.

Agreed.. better than every commercial I saw.

Didn't take it as a gotcha.. no worries. I haven't been to the UK (as much as I would like to go!)

it was funny. But I've already commented on why getting into an argument over something subjective such as taste is pointless. All I can say is that if it does taste like piss water to you then you have to realize that piss water must be really popular with the population of the world and especially the US.
