OT - Tim Thomas takes a stand.....

That Aud Smell

Recommended Posts

So, are you one of those people who think all "right-wing" ideas are generated by Rush Limbaugh and Fox News? And that all other political ideas develop organically and "left-wingers" don't need to have their "orders" spoon-fed to them because their ideas just "make sense"?

Not judging, just asking.

No I'm one of those people who show respect to the man who has a job that NONE of us could do successfully. I am showing respect for the man that probably has the most stressful job imaginable. I am not a left winger, nor am I a right. Whether it was Clinton, Bush or Obama. I have always shown my president the respect they deserve.

utterly disgusting.

This thread needs to be closed now. The complete lack of respect is sickening. A bunch of saps behind their keyboard bad mouthing the President of your country! If you don't like his viewpoints, fine but comments like these are stomach churning. 99 percent of you people couldn't even run a block club, let alone the U.S.A.

Give respect where respect is due. I can't stand it. it seems as though it's now "cool" to hate the President.

Really? And were you disgusted by the same disrespect paid to Bush?

I guess I'm the fool for asking, because whatever the truth is, you'll say you were. A means to an end, right?

Tell, other than having a title, what has Obama done to earn this "respect"? We don't elect royalty, right, but rather these people are supposed to be equals? That's the whole premise, at least.

I don't ever bad mouth president. If I disagree with their veiwpoints then I don't vote for them. Both of my parents work for the government. They have always taught me to show respect for the leader of this country. Especially when half the world bad mouths us and him already.

What kills me is that the majority of people NEVER have a full understanding of politics and their direct impact on foreign affairs and the citizens. They just believe what other parties tell them.

The beauty of this country is the freedom to protest. And effective protest usually requires a bit of disrespect to get it's point across. The founding fathers showed an awful lot of disresect towards their king in the days leading up to the shot heard 'round the world.

Just sayin'....

He's been around a hell of a lot longer than you, and isn't known for trolling like you , so I think most people will give him the benefit of the doubt.

thanks for the support, and yes, I am loyal ex-pat in the ATL, having watched my beloved Sabres since I was a litle tyke, and a troll I am certainly most certainly not !

Yea actually I was. If you read any of my posts you would have seen that their political affiliation has no bearing on my attitude towards their position.

You ask me what has Obama done to earn this "respect"? Well, for one he was elected President of the United States. That's all he needs.

I'm getting the feeling no one understands the states' rights v federal issue Thomas' actions are meant to highlight. Of course he will be attending state and local events with state and local politicians. Granting the right to vote to everyone was a noble but dumb thing to do.

Convincing everyone that the two major parties are actually opposed to one another on any meaningful issue though, that was pure brilliance.

Wow, you must not like your fellow citizen to speak about them in such generalities.

In your opinion, do you think average Americans are smart enough to understand American politics, or do they need their hands held through the process? If the latter, who does the hand-holding?

Yeah, I was young and idealistic once too. I'm cured of that now.

Did you read Thomas' tweet? Pretty clear to most that he wasn't just trying to speak foul of this nations' leader.

Then that's sad. And that's your cross to bear.

Nothing sad about it. My respect is earned. It doesn't move with the whims of the electoral college.

It is well known that the average American does not have a full understanding of foreign affairs let alone domestic.

And I think it's pretty obvious that I like my fellow citizen. After all I am the one sticking up for my President and I always will.

I dont have twitter

And he earned my respect, as did Bush when they were elected. When Bush was re-elected, I will admit that I did not vote for him but I still supported him as he is the face of my country.

IMHO, being elected POTUS does not automatically confer respect upon that said specific President. Respect is earned, not granted in knee-jerk fashion. This is not the British royal family we are talking about. The respect for office of the President is different for the actual POTUS and his/her performance while in office

Yeah, good luck cutting through generations of brain-washing on this one. Even though you have your facts generally correct, you may as well be trying to convince those who buy the democrat propaganda that Darwin is wrong.

1. Obama has not once raised taxes on the rich since being in office.

2. He has allowed the Goldman Sachs/Rothschild thieves to get away scott-free with basically destroying the world economy and setting up even bigger "too-big-to-fail" situations requiring future bail-outs the size of which will bankrupt us all forever.

3. His health care plan was set up with so much industry-friendly subtext that this country will have even MORE people unable to afford healthcare by the time every part of it is implemented in 2015.

4. This right wing conspiracy that he is a leftie is pure genius. He's further right than even Clinton was, and yet he's having the word "socialist" used to describe him so often that the dum dums of this country (of which there are many) actually think he's a communist and that he must be destroyed...setting us all up for an even FURTHER right-wing (ie FASCIST) leader to supplant him.

If you all can't see that by now, you're beyond hope, and it you aren't being paid to spew it, then you oughtta be.

He won the popular vote as well.

I'll just say this. The country in my eyes is better off now than when Obama took office. Just read this board around that time to see the difference in what we were talking about. We didn't elect a president, we elected a janitor to clean up the mess that the last administration of vandals left.

I dont need to read his tweet. A snub is a snug regardless of the intent behind it. As if I would read it and say "oh well in that case..."

Nice try.

And I guess my respect is harder to win than yours.

When it comes to the nation's leaders I would have to agree. I don't like when people speak ill of my country let alone my president.

When it comes to everyday citizens...well that another story for a different time

Perspective is a funny thing. If we are talking fiscal policy the last true conservative President was named Kennedy.

He won the popular vote as well.

Tim Thomas' reasons for not going were pure and true. He was right to not go. And brave too. With the NDAA around, yikers!!! If Rask is in net for Boston next game, put out the APB ;)

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. The Royal family...come on you can't be serious. They warrant now respect. They were born into position. That the complete opposite of how the U.S works. Bad comparison.

I feel as though people do not understand the difference between respect and agreement.

So you are a mind reader too, eh? If you can't be bothered to take the time to listen to the individual before making up your mind then I guess we're done here. You've got it all figured out.
