Darcy never would do this trade.

Florida sends forwards Nathan Horton and Gregory Campbell to the Boston Bruins for defenceman Dennis Wideman, the 15th overall pick in this year's NHL Entry Draft and a third round pick in 2011.

Actually, that trade reminds me quite a bit of the Drury one, if you sub the highly regarded prospect in Ballard for that 1st round pick.

But Darcy already made the pick for Ballard. I don't see Darcy giving up actually picking a 1st rounder.

Maybe Darcy will pick up Ballard and Reinprecht from Florida now.

A 1st round pick in Ballard who was a couple months away from signing a contract and has lived up to his status thus far in his college career vs. a 1st round pick which hasn't even been made yet and is 2 years away from signing that first contract. How exactly is someone in that Ballard mold worse than that upcoming 1st round pick? The deals are so incredibly similar, except Drury was a bit more of a proven commodity at the time of that deal.

Darcy traded an un-selected 1st rounder for Zubrus.

FTR, the pick was traded about four times before it ended up being a second rounder. The guy who got picked is re-entering the draft in a few days. It's a crap shoot.

I'm not exactly sure what you're saying here. I see that the pick we gave for Zubrus was traded a couple times, but what do you mean by "it ended up being a second rounder"? The pick itself wound up being Nick Petrecki and he is currently in the Sharks system.

I think the pornographic conversation in the other thread got her a little breathy.

In Darcy's mind (my belief - no actual proof of this) he considered the first pick in the second round just as good as a first rounder - he dropped down 3 spots to a pick which pretty much was the same as where he started.

So while officially he traded away his 1st rounder - he more or less still had his 1st rounder.

But could have had two instead. But anyway, yes, they more than likely still wound up with the same player they would have taken with the pick they traded away.

So according to DARREN DREGER over at TSN

"Florida Panthers' general manager Dale Tallon is shopping 15th overall.

He's willing to package another player with it to attract an offensive forward, or would consider a collection of draft picks in return."

So could Darcy pull off a trade with Florida where the Sabres get that 15th pick in a trade that includes Connolly? Then Darcy makes a trade with Toronto to move that 15th and Stafford for Kaberle?

Boy, what a world that would be.

I don't know. A deal with the 23rd pick is one thing, but for the #15 overall? For one year of Kaberle? I'd rather have that 15th pick. Maybe package it with the 23rd for a higher (single-digit) pick, if there's someone there to target specifically.

I see that as highly unlikely. This year's draft is a very good one, so he might want both picks - or parlay one plus a player into a trade. But I don't see him using both to trade up...too much of a crap shoot on whomever they would get.
