Any thoughts. I still think they need to find a tough offensive center who can at least distribute. Someone with hands and speed.

I am still reading about them, but any thoughts.

What else is there to do.... play golf?

Forget the tough part. I'll settle for an offensive center as long as the player is at least 5'11.

Agree, there are some opinions that two US D might be better than Erik Gudbranson, though, I like the fact that he has a nasty streak.

Merrill and Forbort have been mentioned from the US. Don't know much about them, but they had really good U18 tourneys.

MyNHLDraft.com has us taking Dylan McIlrath, a 6'5" 215lbs defenseman with a habit of dropping the gloves:

I know nothing about his skill level, but with a little bit day dreaming, a McIlrath-Myers top pairing looked pretty good.

Trade Connolly, Stafford, 1st round pick in 2010 and some other pieces to see if you can't get up in the top 3 of the draft. Thats the only way I see anything significant coming out of this draft class. It just isn't deep this year.

The Sabres have little offensive(potential top 6) depth in the system. A 1st round pick of a dman or goalie would be ridiculous.

Here are your potential top 6 prospects in the pipeline...

Ennis(I'm not sure he even belongs on this list as it appears he has graduated to the bigs)

Kassian

Adam

Ya know Blue, I looked at that too. It doesn't seem like we have much in the Juniors or in Portland in the way of offensive talent. I like the fact we have Dmen, but I have to wonder if Regiers staff over emphasized D at the expense of the O.

Well, they could always trade defensive prospects for current NHL forwards ...

It's cyclical. Before this current crop of defensemen, it was the Roy, Pomminstein, Vanek, Paille, MacArthur, Stafford (and to a lesser extent, guys like Gaustad and Thorburn) group of main prospects in the pipeline in Rochester. Before them, they were a bit stronger on the blueline around the time of the 98 and 99 post season runs. One position fills up, then they focus on the other at the top of the draft.

...or for forward prospects.

Drop DR a line and let him know that just because we lost a bunch of dmen against Carolina in 05-06, it doesn't mean he has to stockpile blueliners like they are going out of style. :D

They've basically taken an equal balance of forwards and defensemen in the last couple drafts. The late round picks at D have just panned out better than the forwards so far. There's your glut of prospects.

I had already pointed this out on Sabresjunkie.com that this organization has no offensive prospects in the system besides Adam and Kassian because Ennis will be on Buffalo fulltime next season. This team needs to move Stafford, our 1st round pick and maybe throw in a prospect or possibly Gerbe and move up in the draft. Buffalo believes in building thru the draft then why did Regier give up a 2nd rounder for Torres? That was too much for a guy only playing 20 games or less. And Darcy has done that the last couple of seasons. I'm really interested to see what happens during the offseason because if Tallinder and Lydman are both let go I don't know if our defense will be stronger with the additions of Weber and Butler Fulltime. This team has too many small forwards in the lineup and really only has one first line player in Vanek. Changes need to be made on this team and a quality player or two is needed in the worst possible way.

Suggestions? I'm trying to figure out who fits that description and just how many (few) of those players there are.

I can't name any. Guess I'm just pissed cause either Darcy won't pull the trigger on a proven Centerman already in the NHL or Tommy G is too damn cheap to acquire one. Drafted guys take time to develop I realize. But a Centerman is what's needed big time (Someone like a Shane Doan or Joe Thorton).

No Joe Thorton please.

Eric Staal

Fresh off a new contract signing. Carolina is rebuilding, throw the kitchen sink their way.

To Carolina

Connolly, Stafford, Butler/Sekera, Enroth, Brennan/Gragnani, 2010 1st rd pick and our 3rd rd pick

To Buffalo

Eric Staal

2010 2nd rd and 4th rd pick

Hey, everyone wants a stud center, I would say Eric Staal falls into that catagory.

I love the idea of Eric Staal. I don't think they could get Carolina to even listen. As Dennis Miller once said (I guess I have to filter this) "Two of (CRAP) is (CRAP). If they really want to (SCREW) you, they'll try to give you three of these things." All that stuff you are offering is CRAP compared to Staal and there is not a single sure thing on the list. They would have to be WAY desperate with ZERO prospects on the way to do that. Carolina may have had a better record than Buffalo in the second half of the season, so I am not so sure they are depserate to deal their franchise player, and if they have any more guys like Brandon Sutter coming up they will be just fine. But again, I would LOVE a guy like Staal.

A guy who can't stay healthy, one who enjoys guitar hero more than hockey, a choice of two defenseman who were both disappointments this year, a goalie prospect, a blueline prospect and two picks for Staal and two picks? Even if the offer was a legit one, and this is not, Carolina is building around Staal. He is going nowhere.

Ok, I'll up the offer than, you may not like it, but it gets us our center.

To BUF

Eric Staal

To CAR

Ryan Miller

Drew Stafford

Straight up trade, a 2 for 1.

Bring up Enroth for goaltending duties or pick one up. But there is your stud Center.
