I thought it was a successful draft. Alot of good teams created. Trades welcome here. I believe the entire draft was over in about 45 minutes. A reflection of the diamonds in the rough throughout here:

I had fun at the draft last night. After six or so rounds, it was a real crap shoot for me... I just don't know enough NHL players. I picked a bunch of HOMER picks just for the fun of it. My line up:

Icebergs

1. (4) Dany Heatley

2. (21) Ryan Miller

3. (28) Jean-Sebastien Giguere

4. (45) Tomas Plekanec

5. (52) Brian Campbell

6. (69) Alexei Kovalev

7. (76) Mark Streit

8. (93) Jochen Hecht

9. (100) Keith Tkachuk

10. (117) Michal Rozsival

11. (124) Marek Svatos

12. (141) Chris Drury

13. (148) Ryan Smyth

14. (165) Johnny Oduya

15. (172) Mats Sundin

16. (189) Tomas Holmstrom

17. (196) Shane O'Brien

Sundin was a reach, but in round 15, it was a good stab. If he plays, his upside could be huge. Still like Drury...

My current and former Sabres include: Miller, Hecht, Campbell, Drury...

Picked fourth so I missed out on the Ovechkin, Crosby and Malkin lottery...

Yeah, league 1 has pretty much everyone show up for the draft. It was fun. Lots of talk in the chat and it went by very quick.

I have already been offered 2 blockbuster trades but rejected both. I am very open to trading, i just didn't like the two trades offered earlier. lol

That was fun yesterday...we should use the chat function on this site more often. Then again, nobody would ever get into the thousands in posts without the GDT posts of 1-2 words. I would say 80% of posts consist of "Goallll Sabres".

BTW, I am GoSabres25 on there. I need to change my name on here...looking for something more creative than that. Suggestions?

Kinda funny how Poms went first, you got Miller and I snapped Roy at 29! (my only Sabre) Alot of Mr. insignificants like Max & Al taken last

I had the fifth overall; I dont think the top wouldve changed. In retrospect it was a toss between Zetterberg & Datsyuk @ #5 for me.

I took Dany Heatly number 4. Rooting for him to be successful is going to be like wanting to only throw up in your mouth. Should be interesting to see if NHL Fantasy changes the way you watch hockey like NFL fantasy changes the way you watch and what you root for in football.

If nothing else, I'm hoping that I'll take a little more interest in other games. I only care about watching the Sabres. Maybe now I'll have a reason to watch other teams.

I feel the same way about Spezza/Heatley, etc. ; I prefered to go with Luongo & Zetterberg and west coasters whenever applicable. In my experience, Sabres have not well for me over the years.

Fantasy stuff does make you alot more conscious of guys around the league for sure; even if their teams suck. Phoenix, Tampa & Vancouver should be interesting this year. I think STL, ATL & FLA will suck the most.

I have not come across too many 08-09 predictions online yet, should be soon though.

I let autodraft do it for me. I intervened last year and learned my lesson.

Can anyone else lay claim to this? Of 17 players drafted by the Bears, only 3 (Semin, Pitkanen and [the questionable anyway] Gonchar) are from the Eastern Conference. I'll be staying up late to watch my Bears.

There's only about a 1 in 157 chance this sort of West over East imbalance would happen to me by luck alone (assuming equal #s of players from both conferences - an assumption I'm not going to waste time checking on).

Perhaps it's because the rest of the league pushed up the more familiar Eastern players in their draft orders?

That's my excuse... Outside of SJ, DAL and DET I don't think I watched any Western Conf games unless the Sabres played them.

Trading Spezza for Tanguay and Kessel.

Crazy trade. Although i do think Tanguay fell a bit too far down. But Spezza is a game changer. I'd have to think, wonderbread has become the favorite post-trade. But i love it. Hopefully we see more trades. lol

I know i'm working on a few....

That pending & waivers crap takes for days. Not a bad deal for either parties.

I just cant wait for the injuries to start popping up; they are going to be devestating  Gonchar, Zubov already sketchy.

I drafted that kid from St Louis. Hopefully it's not a sign of things to come.
