[OT] Trent Edwards injured.

Because it seems that there are more douchebags on TSW who would rather be a) right about the player they back, such as in the Edwards-Losman, Kelsay-Denney discussions; or b) want to prove they are smarter than Buffalo's FO, coaching staff and scouting staff (and of nearly every team in the league.)

There is very little constructive, intelligent discussion that goes on over there.

There's a Kelsay-Denney discussion? My how low that board has sunk. What do you expect when they ban any posters that have actual opinions.

Yeah, there's a good thread going about whether it makes you a bad Bills fan to think that Denney is a little better than Kelsay.

I don't really care about strong opinions. Paraphrasing Jim Rome here - if you've got a take and you can back it up, then hey, let's hash it out. I got no problem have a spirited debate/discussion about most anything Sabres/Bills/sports related. That's what these boards are for. It's the constant crusading that some do and get away with, under the guise of being long-term or respected posters.

OTOH I'm sure that me and PA going at it all the time about Miller and other Sabres stuff might qualify as crusading, but we're special.

"crusading" is a myth created by those who's opinions get crushed on a regular basis. Most posters accused of "crusading" are merely responding to other posts. There would be 10 threads on the same topic and you reply in each of the threads and they don't like your opinion it's called "crusading".

Come on. I'm not talking about rational posters who make coherent, intelligent replies and actually discuss and debate alternate possibilities and opinions. I'm talking about posters who act like general douchebags and think their opinion is the only one that is right, and their "replies" border on trolling and spam. I have no respect for posters who attempt to win arguments with quantity rather than quality, trying to pound the opposition into submission. That's not discussion or debate, it's noise - and there are a handful of TSW posters who get away with it under the guise of "he's a long-time, respected member."

I can deal with unpopular opinions, but have something to back up what you post, and don't flood the board with your thoughts in every thread.

That's bullzhit. If posters respond to your posts and you in turn respond to them it's "crusading". If I were starting "Loseman Sucks" threads everyday that is one thing. I was banned because I responded to posters who were posting crap that was simply untrue and I merely offered my opinion in a strong way. A panty waist mod over there who was tired of me making my points decided to ban me. The mods at TSW use "crusading" the same way the Republicans use "terrorism" to silence the opinions of those that make them look stupid on a daily basis. I can't even remeber how many postes questioning the decisions of the mods that were deleted. What are they NHL Referees? They can't be questioned? What standards do they want to achieve over there anyway. They would rather have an 'Alaska Darrin' with his 30,000 inane posts or a 'LABillzfan" who would rather describe homosexual acts in his posts than actual football opinions.

I still do post there mostly as a joke. I love agreeing posters like Apus-E knowing that if she knew it was me she would have a fit. That is the only joy on TSW these days.

Not bullschitt at all. I think we're talking about two different things, or your experience with the TSW mods has colored your interpretation of the mods' actions and crusading. I have no problem with debate and discussiom, even if it is on the same subject. Again - no problem with people having an opinion, backing it up, and discussing it.

What I'm talking about are the azzholes who try to win a debate or discussion by shouting down everyone else, and do so in nearly every thread - the people who not only start some form of a "Loseman sucks" thread every day, but also go into every thread and hijack it to once again beat you over the head with their opinion.

I guess I'd adapt Justice Stewart's pornography standard to message board crusading - I can't define it, but I know it when I see it.

I don't recall a lot of you over there so I don't know what you did and whether a banning was warranted/justified.

Me too, but everyone on the Bills board seems to be assuring everyone that Favre is washed up and too old to make a difference and that they won't be better then last year

I lurk there, but refuse to post. Anyone who doesn't believe that the Jets signing of Favre makes them signifcantly more dangerous just doesn't understand football. He legitimately gives them a chance to win every game they play. They didn't have that before his signing. He'll make everyone around him a better player. Their O-line will be better, their receivers will be much better and their coach will be better. He'll sustain longer drives and take some heat off of their defense. Simply stated, he's a playmaker. It was a total win for the NYJ. Anyone who doesn't see that is simply kidding themselves or just being a homer.

Or they could understand that until last year, most everyone thaught Favre was done after his last two years and the way last season went after Thanksgiving might indicate that he would have struggled with the Packers this year. On top of that, you have a 38 year old playing for a team he doesn't want to be on and trying to learn a system he is unfamiliar with while being a guy who admits he hates practice and study.

Just saying.....

If no one responds to those posts the poster simply goes away. When you have a dozen or so responding each time a "crusader" posts how is that a bad thing or "crusading"? "Crusading" is a meaningless word used to eliminate posters who dare have a strong opinion. It is the strong opinions that make the TSW remotely interesting. 90% of the threads are meaningless inane attempts at football discussions consisting of two types of posters 1) pseudo-intellectual guy who reads something on a blog and then presents the idea as his/her own 2) Sad can't let go of the past jock who is the ex-high school player who thinks they can relate to the NFL game because he played a couple of years as a teenager. Posters with personality and have their own honest opinions are not allowed.

All reasonable discussion points. But it doesn't change the fact that he is a significant upgrade at their QB position. I didn't say he won't struggle. I didn't predict them to go to the playoffs. All I said is he gives them a chance to win every game and he'll make the players around him better.

Now for some opinion: Take Jericho Cotchery in any fantasy football league you play in... I see Favre raining down bombs on that guy...

I like Chad Pennington as a QB and thought he would fit perfect as a Bill. He is a smart control the game QB that the Bills are hoping Trent Edwards can be. I like Trent Edwards don't get me wrong. I think Pennington would have made the Bills a playoff team this year. With a young QB and a weak minded head coach I don't see the Bills going beyond 7-9. A ho-hum record for a team with a ho-hum coach.

You obviously have some strong negative feelings about TSW and the way you were treated, so I don't think we're going to agree on this. I do agree that, like anything else, the term crusading can be bastardized and hijacked, but it damn well does exist and there are those who do it all the time.

I'll say it for the last time - I don't have a problem with posters and strong opinions. But back that opinion up, and don't run into every thread to post a five-paragraph diatribe about "Loseman sucks" and how everyone else is stupid for not realizing it. In other words - we get it. You don't like JP. You don't have to bludgeon everyone with your opinion. Or that the Bills suck because they don't spend enough "draft equity" on linemen. Or that they're going to take another defensive back in the first round because that's all they do -- take small, skill players when we need beef. It just gets old to hear the same stuff constantly repeated by the same posters.

I went with Coles even though I think Favre will struggle.

Pennington's arm is no where near strong enough for the Ralph and I have a lot more respect for Jauron. Remember Belichek had only a 61 and 67 record after 8 years of coaching.

From the things that came out after he was fired from the Browns, Belichick's tenure with Cleveland was a perfect example of how not to survive as an NFL coach. He apparently did pretty much everything exactly the opposite of how it should be done, which resulted in his 36-44 record in Cleveland. I don't know if he learned from his mistakes or if he has had more say in the personnel department, but he didn't start winning regularly until 2001, the year Brady became the starter and, not coincidentally, the year after the Pats* started taping opposing teams' signals.

All that being said, Belichick's success after 7/8 lousy seasons at the start of his head coaching career means nothing in relation to Jauron's failures to date. I hope he proves me wrong, but I don't see Jauron as the guy to lead this team deep in the playoffs.

Does Jauron inspire any of you as fans? Of course not. Man, that guy is depressing. A mumbling, namby pamby low talker. The Bills haven't had a coach since Marv with fire in his belly.

Doesn't inspire confidence from me. He's a far cry from Lindy, that's for sure.

Maybe Dick needs to hire a designated screamer - someone to yell at the refs, yell at the players, occasionally tear up the locker room when the team is playing bad...

How much of a screamer was Bill Walsh? Tom Landry? Joe Gibbs? IMO...The jury is still out on Jauron and I think this year is a make or break year for him, but I don't think his personality will have anything to do with it.

It's not about screaming. I think about the coaches you mentioned -- I can see their faces and the intensity on them. I see Jauron and I see the car salesman from Fargo.

Care to compile a list of Pennington's stats at the Ralph? I would be interested in seeing how he has fared.

Also,

Lets sign Belichek then. Just because one coach turns it around doesn't mean every retread has the same shot.

I'm too lazy to tally his career stats and figure out when the games were played each season, but if anyone wants to do so, his split stats with stadium splits are here.

Obviously the point isn't that Jauron will find a Tom Brady and turn it around, its that you can't "definitively" say anything when it comes to sports. As for all those posts about his voice or demeanor, have you ever listened to a Belichick press conference? How much confidence would he inspire if you didn't know his name and just saw him standing on the sidelines with his head warmer and hoodie?

Good point if you didn't know his record for success you could say the same thing about Belichek's sideline demeanor most games however I can say that I have on occasion seen Belicheat get visibly upset and say some things to his players either directly or indirectly with non verbal que's..

It's just not his voice that inspires the lack of confidence it's his entire coaching style or lack there of. An amazing stat from last nights game, the Bills were the only team in 2007 not to score a TD in the final two minutes of either half. I feel that Coach Dick's passive approach to the game had a hand in that stat along with other factors.
