Not according to the puck possession stats.

Sabres Pick - Swedish C - Rasmus Asplund - Rnd 2 #33
Robviously replied to Taro T's topic in The Aud Club
The only way the trade makes sense is if the Sabres REALLY wanted to move up to get Asplund. I hope that's the case. -
Is that Kulikov's analysis from when he was a prospect? It also sounds like exactly the guy we traded to get him, except he was younger and not on his way to UFA status in a year.

Sabres Pick - Swedish C - Rasmus Asplund - Rnd 2 #33

There's literally another guy in the draft named "Rasmus Asplund." -
This means our defense next year just got worse.

Sabres Pick - Swedish C - Rasmus Asplund - Rnd 2 #33

This write-up has me excited: http://thehockeywriters.com/rasmus-asplund-the-next-ones-2016-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/ -
Trading a second pair defensemen and two picks for a second pair defenseman and one pick.
-
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie 2m 2 minutes ago In the BUF-FLA trade, there are picks going both ways.
-
Pysyk and pick per McKenzie.

Some quick thoughts on the pick: 1. I really like that we didn't get sucked into drafting for position. 2. I also really like that we didn't trade the pick since there's an expansion draft coming up, and probably another one pretty soon after that. 3. His highlights are really impressive. They show highlights for every guy in the draft and you can tell some guys are mostly just great athletes and have great stats because their athleticism helps them put the puck on the net more. Nylander's highlights show a lot of goals where he's being really patient, or faking out the goalie, or picking a corner with his wrist shot. His skill really stands out (at least in the goals they showed). 4. The response to the pick seems really muted. Maybe the Reinhart and Eichel picks spoiled us. Pre-2014, I feel like a 1st round pick like this would have had this board in a frenzy. In the bad old days, Grigorenko at 12 had us excited.

Important question -- does this mean I can get a Sabres logo on the credit card I have through Key Bank?
-
It'd be more noteworthy to me if it were a result of him struggling or not improving. By all accounts, he had a great season and stepped his game up. It's just that other guys stepped it up even more -- which isn't crazy when you're watching 17 year olds develop.

Well, when you barely move down the rankings, it's going to be a slow slide. He went from -11 last year to +23 this year, and stayed healthy after all the concerns about his shoulder. It just sounds like Juolevi had a better season, and maybe Sergachev did too. He still seems like an easy choice for a Top 10 pick.

Obviously I have no idea what GMTM is thinking, but I really didn't hear anything bad about Chychrun until the last 48 hours. Not really sure what happened where he went from great prospect to radioactive in the couple days.
-
I'm looking at it this way -- The first three picks are the Big 3. Then Tkachuk will be taken 4th or 5th. So there are basically three mystery picks before us after that. I see three excellent defensemen and three excellent forwards (McLeod, Dubois, and Nylander). So that fact that we haven't dropped from no.8 means we'll still have multiple good options to choose from (and maybe GMTM has some other name he likes).

If all three defenseman are gone by 8, we're going to have some awesome forwards to choose from.- 456 replies

Everything he's ever said about his brother is completely true. And he didn't "screw" him in season 1 -- he just didn't want him working for the law firm that he built. Would you? When they were younger, Jimmy literally stole from his own father's business until he had to close it. If you built a hugely successful business from the ground up, would you want this person working with you? Especially when they share your last name and reputation is nearly everything in law firms? And he didn't screw him in season 2. He won the Mesa Verde business back fair and square with a final pitch that was dead on accurate about what HHM could bring that a new, 1-person firm couldn't. And he went to the copy store to clear him name after the worst humiliation of his career (thanks to Jimmy's forgery). He wasn't trying to destroy his brother; he was trying to undo the criminal damage that was done to him. Chuck has had to bail Jimmy out his entire life (literally in some cases). He tried to give him honest work at his company but also tried to keep him at arm's length, and it still blew up in his face. He's not perfect by any stretch but he's a far more sympathetic character than Jimmy.

The "karma" of trying to clear your name when you're the victim of forgery and fraud. <_< Chuck is the good guy. Jimmy is the bad guy and he's corrupting Kim along the way.
-
I think they would have given him a few games to start the year but I don't think they were ever considering keeping him on the team for the full season.
-
Taking McLeod or Dubois would be great too. There are at least 10 guys that's be great for the Sabres to add and, if the Sabres beat the odds and drop all the way to 11th, there's Keller, Bean, and McAvoy. This link has an awesome spreadsheet every team's chances at the lottery, including ours for picks 1, 2, 3, 8, 9, 10, and 11: http://www.tankathon.com/nhl/pick_odds Sabres 1st: 6.0% 2nd: 6.4% 3rd: 6.8% 8th: 39.2% 9th: 34.8% 10th: 6.6% 11th: 0.3% So, 74% chance we're drafting 8th or 9th. Also, as much as we need a defenseman, I think BPA is the move here.
-
Nope. We're three points up on them right now.
-
Awesome end to the season. For once the Sabres make a heroic late-season run that we can feel good about.
-
Sabres win game 82 but so does Montreal so right now we're drafting 8th pending the draft lottery. Should be some great options when it's our turn.
