The Sabres Hockey Hotline with... somebody or other?
Robviously replied to LGR4GM's topic in The Aud Club
Like I said, we have to get the typos out of the way now. It would be a tragedy if someone typed "Nathan Nichushkin" on Sunday during the draft. -

Kevin Snow. We're all getting our typos out of the way this morning so that we're ready for Sunday. -

That "finite number of days" is apparently the number of days remaining where Terry Pegula owns the team. -
Yes. Because most people aren't playing organized football and you don't need anything but a ball for that. Most of the football I played growing up was just us in the park or in the street. By that standard, it's even less equipment than soccer since we didn't need any type of goals (we just used landmarks for the end zones). And even if you factor in organized football versus hockey, football is still easier because you don't need to rent an ice surface to play football.

Well, in that case, thanks a lot for being a jerk and stealing my thunder. :P

This really belongs in an "Around the NHL 2013-2014" thread, but I think that one got deleted. Here are the odds for the 2014 Stanley Cup Champions: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nhl-puck-daddy/pittsburgh-penguins-favored-win-2014-stanley-cup-165249387.html

Best part of the GWG was Boychuk doing absolutely nothing to prevent it despite being right there. That felt good after his head shot in the previous game. Incredible ending. Nice to see Boston on the wrong side of an implosion.

Miller is a great fit for a team that wants to win right now. A team that wants to win right now should be ready to trade future assets (prospects and picks). There has to be a good trade out there for both the Sabres and another team in the league. That said, I think the most likely scenario is absolutely nothing getting done. Darcy being Darcy.

I watched it again today and his headhunting there is so unbelievably obvious that anyone outside the New England area with a single functioning eye could see it. Of course the NHL just shrugs their shoulders, as usual. But they totes care about player safety. All the new players have to wear visors next season. That should definitely prevent all those pesky brain injuries. <_<

I liked Girgensons going into the draft but I wasn't sure about trading up for him. We could have stayed put and taken Henrik Samuelsson a few picks later, and done something useful with the extra 2nd round pick. Obviously I'm feeling more confident about the move now. I hope he plays all of next season as the no.1 center for Rochester. Just give him tons of minutes in all situations. We rushed Grigorenko to the NHL and look pretty stupid for doing so. No need to do that again.

If you factor in both potential AND likelihood of success, I think you could make the case that Zemgus Girgensons is our no.1 prospect right now. Girgensons made huge strides this season and is a total monster in terms of work ethic. According to a few players/reporters, he was the best player (for either team) in the Amerks' playoff series with Toronto. And according to Matthew Coller, when they asked him about his playoff performance, his response was "So what? We lost." If I had to make a list of prospects I DON'T want to trade, he's my no.1. Grigorenko: Scored a lot in the Q, then did nothing in the NHL, then scored a lot in the Q, then did nothing in the playoffs for the Remparts or Amerks. I was excited about the pick too, but right now he's on track to be the moody weirdo everyone was scared of during last year's draft. Armia: Good numbers in Finland again, but not spectacular. He had two concussions this year but helped his team win a championship. He'll either be a good scorer in the NHL or a guy who gets his head taken off. Or both. My list is something like: 1. Girgensons 2. Grigorenko 3. Armia 4. Pysyk 5. McNabb 6. McCabe 7. Larsson 8. Catenacci 9. Hackett 10. Tropp (could be higher since he should have been a full time NHLer last year but got injured, and I guess he could be lower too since he's getting older and we're still waiting to see how fully he recovers).

Boston fans are the most abrasive human beings on earth, but I don't see many complaints about Chicago fans. I've lived here for two years and the fans have been cool at all the games I've been to. My biggest complaint is that Cubs fans seem more in love with their stadium than they are with baseball. (I get that the team sucks, but a lot of people don't even watch the game. Even Bills fans watch the games....) Blackhawks all the way, even though Boston has clearly been the better team through four games IMO.

People would acknowledge that he's good, but his name would almost never come up. He's a small scoring winger. Other than Patrick Kane, what small scoring wingers do we talk about acquiring on this board? There's a major Buffalo bias when it comes to Kane. We dream about him in a Sabres sweater way more than we should.

The Saint?

My guess is that if the Sabres are ever going to be a good team again, it'll be from developing their own players.

The best part about reading the books, IMO, is that the story is basically the long-term ramifications of the massive war 20 years ago that deposed the Targaryens and brought Robert Baratheon to power. Each book fills in that backstory more, and the backstory basically gives a ton of clues for where the series is going in the final books. (I re-read the first one when I was done with the fifth book and it's loaded with clues about how this is all going to wrap up. At least, I think those were clues.) Anyways, it'd be really tough to cover the backstory the same way in the series without long scenes of the actors reading EXPOSITION monologues, so maybe a prequel series would work. Maybe I've got it all wrong, but I think this scene from season 1 (and book 1) is huge for the whole series:

Agreed. They'll have to merge books 4 & 5 [non-spoiler for people who haven't read the books: the fourth and fifth books take place during the same time period but cover different sets of characters]. I can't see how the TV version could give any of the remaining stars an entire season off. The dumbest thing I read on Twitter last night was someone who wrote that they were glad they didn't read the books because they got to be surprised when the Red Wedding happened. Because, apparently, it's impossible to feel surprised from reading...

This is a Buffalo Sabres message board. I think you can remove the "OT" from the title of your thread about anti-depressants.

Matt Martin on the Islanders' success: a model for the Sabres?
Robviously replied to PASabreFan's topic in Archive
Obviously good players can come from the Q and obviously Zagrapan didn't suck because he came from the Q (seriously, did either of you two really think that was what I was saying?) but I'm definitely at the point where I trust the star prospects from that league far less than I trust the star prospects from the OHL or WHL. If you look at the Sabres' draft history, I think Pominville is their only QMJHL success story since Pierre Turgeon. -

I'm skeptical. Tavares came up through the OHL. Drouin and MacKinnon are QMJHL stars -- prospects from that league should always be taken with a grain of salt. (Marek Zagrapan completely dominated that league, we drafted him 13th overall, and he never played an NHL game, for example.) -

Step 1: Draft John Tavares. -
Hey, I know a star goalie they could trade for.....

Based on the story of King Solomon, what you just said proves that the Senators are Myers' true team. :( -
I want to have success with Susannah Collins.
