  1. I love that our franchise history has this chapter of play-to-win, historical precedent-setting, human-liberating cloak and dagger in it. We freed a human being from the clutches of the Soviet Empire at the risk of hard labor (read: death) not only because he would make the team better (for a long time), but because it was the right thing to do.
  2. A lot of fan bases have jobbed or will job the All Star vote. Why not Zoidberg?
  3. Science thread! Woo! Let's get it started with how everything got started: Bits I always thought were interesting: Light as we know it didn't appear until about 300,000 years after the big bang, when electrons and protons finally cool down enough to combine into atoms. The first planets didn't really form until 1-15 billion years after the big bang, once the first stars started to die.
  4. http://www.si.com/college-football/2014/11/28/buffalo-bulls-hire-lance-leipold-head-coach UB hires Lance Leipold. He was an assistant under Barry Alvarez at Wisconsin for the Rose Bowl win in '93 before he started his impressive DIII career. He just needs help recruiting, but could be a good signing.
  5. Seems like it sometimes.
  6. I don't really wanna pick this apart, but I'm gonna. Sure it will. Those guys are playing in Rochester for a reason- they need to develop. Those kids will eventually be good, but they're not going to contribute much in the short term to the big club, and yes, that means they'd be worse than Meszaros. I agree, but no amount of coaching motivation is going to make Armia elevate his talent to score in the NHL or give McCabe instantly better vision, not right away. I disagree. I think our basement is much deeper than those teams, should Murray choose to delve there. Of course we won't trade both, that'd hurt the franchise long term by taking a huge gamble on the unlikely ability to acquire a franchise goalie via trade or an even more unlikely UFA signing. I'm not convinced. I think Murray could gut this team easily. He traded the captain, leading scorer, and franchise goaltender of this team, in the face of PLF, without batting eye. I think most of Edmonton's problems stem from major holes at defense, which makes their average goalies look really, really bad. But more importantly to this conversation: you can't have it both ways. You can't be guaranteeing Edmonton's improvement while simultaneously declaring their total demise. Each of these basement teams has a choice to make: tank or try to win games. We're in tank mode. Does MacT lose his job to secure the draft picks? Columbus is so badly injured right now that they're likely to bounce back- I don't think Kekalainen wants to tank. In Philly, the press is already outraged and, in all likelihood, Crag Berube will be out. They'll hire up (Bylsma?), and could get themselves out of trouble.
  7. Heh, his point was that in order to stay competitive, every team in the NHL tries to find ways to add elite talent in addition to the draft, because many won't be able to do it through the draft. The problem isn't unique to us, nor is any attempt at a solution to said problem.
  8. In the land of the 19 year old defensemen, the 30 year old defenseman is king.
  9. No Ryan Vinz?
  10. Reading comprehension: F
  11. Trade the UFAs. Maybe also send good guys back to Rochester (but I think this is less likely).
  12. I'm not worried. We still have the nuclear option.
  13. So was the BS penalty call on his first shift, but we've always known the ice was tilted.
  14. Well that got a lot harder in a hurry.

  16. I'm gonna wait until he's 85 years old and his brain is mush, then have my future Sabres fan grandson throw him down some stairs.
  17. Oilers fans aren't happy.
  18. I give up. When there's other markets aching for hockey (Seattle, QC, and possibly Hamilton, Markham, and KC), it's seems foolhardy to go this route, but the NHL wants to do the cash grab on the franchise fee, be the first big four in Vegas, and try to grab the casino corporate dollar. I think they think the Vegas population and fan dollars project big over the next 20 years and they want in on the ground-ish floor. In reality, I don't really care. Atlanta starting up and moving has not had one real effect on my life. Nor has the low attendance in Florida, Anaheim, NYI, etc. I'd go watch the Sabres play in Vegas once in a while and help us out number the Las Vegas AcesGamblersHookersDamsHangoversTumbleweeds fans about 3:1.
  19. Some friends from Minnestoga are coming over and we're grillin' out. We'll watch on the DVR (and I'll catch the Bills on DVR later). They know the situation, so they won't be ###### about it.
  20. Keep in mind that over tightening is both a symptom and a cause: For experienced players, over-tightening laces is a sign that your boot is wearing and getting softer, and you might be over-tightening laces to compensate for the lack of support. Consider newer/stiffer skates. For all players, over-tightening laces can reduce blood circulation in your foot, giving your foot a dull achy feeling. These aches tend to onset quickly- within only a few minutes of skating. Loosen them up a little, particularly at the uppermost two or three grommets. If foot aches are sharp/painful or if the dull aches don't occur until later in the game or afterwards, then consider the fit of the skate.
  21. Heroic Highlight Save Immediately Followed By Softy Goal to start in net tomorrow.
  22. Yeah, Enzo went to pat him on the ass at the end of the game and caught him in the hand, so the ref gives him the 10. Problem is, if the rules are strictly interpreted, he could face up to ten games. Although, if that were to happen, he'd likely successfully appeal for fewer. That's elite level tanking though: the team leader in goals eats ten games for about as innocent of a mistake as anyone could possibly make.
