  1. Sounds familiar http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2608937-ryan-oreilly-finding-the-home-in-buffalo-he-never-found-in-colorado re: Landeskog being named C "I don't think I was ready for that role at the time. Landy excelled right away at the role, and I think he deserved it, for sure," O'Reilly said. "He's a leader and does everything right. I wasn't very vocal at that time, a little unsure of what to say. But now, I feel I've gotten more to that level in this room." "Since Day 1, we just always had our [business] issues," O'Reilly said. "But I think the thing is, I did want a bigger role there, and in Buffalo, that's what I got. I have a bigger role here, a bigger voice, which is nice to have. I'm happy with the change. The fans and people in Colorado were phenomenal, and I have a lot of good relationships with a lot of their players still, but now that I have longer-term security and stuff, I can just focus on hockey, and it's easier to lead, to not get asked questions about contract stuff all the time." Kinda sad actually. Being that hard on himself with press is telling. Dude needs to accept that he's not alpha and just do his job. Talented player. Don't think we are going to miss him though. Two penalty minutes for the entire season. "just skating around out there." That's unbelievable for the amount of minutes and his role.
  2. Yup. Didn't he have 0 penalty minutes last year? "I'm just skating around out there" See ya! Good job jbot, get what you can and move on. For the angry folks - think Las Vegas. It's about the team.
  3. Yeah pretty sure Danny Briere was the cross-fit hipster. I remember him talking about these farm workouts moving tires and stuff before it was a mainstream thing.
  4. I appreciate you. Sad some Sabres fans are so wrecked they can't enjoy this, arguably one of the best pro sports stories in decades. If they win it all it's gonna blow up outside the NHL I think, legendary.
  5. Was there too in Hyde section. Awesome. And all the locals I talked to were humble. Just great. A couple even brought up the October tragedy and what this means to them / the community. Can't wait for Sabres experience to be even half of this (again). If KP hasn't been she should. Not just the extra pregame, they are nailing it start to finish.
  6. Missed it. Nice to see some Amerks on the score sheet.
  7. If he's an unmanageable problem in the room, goodbye. It's risky, but I think less risky than keeping a Debbie Downer around (if that's what he is) especially when he's supposed to be one of your franchise guys w/ respect to role (top 2 Center) and compensation. Hopefully w/ the new talent and a "C" on Eichel they get off to a great start in Oct. ROR can do his thing on the ice while the kids light it up, and we can enjoy some Ws. I have full faith in JBot to make it happen. Disclosure: I had full faith in GMTM too.
  8. They can make space if they trade us Malkin for Reinhart+Risto and a pick! Seriously though, I wonder if either Malkin or Crosby would be interested in a change of scenery just to mix it up before they start their downward trend. No evidence to support it, they seem to be all happy there, just wonder.
  9. Wow. Had to double check that it wasn't Thursday. Anyways the bold we can agree on. Hate it.
  10. Same. Good for him, tired of the choke narrative. But think any of 3 remaining Western teams beat Caps in 5.
  11. Through-out the course of the season he had a bunch of them in post-games "i'm just skating around out there, not good enough". I thought he did a nice job summarizing it at clean-out with the "lost the love" comment. Howard Simon has the same thing to say here: http://www.wgr550.com/articles/opinion/oreilly-needs-suck-it Ideally the new young core (15+23+Mlltdst+Dahlin) dominates in Oct and O'Reilly can keep to himself and nicely do his thing on the ice. But again if he's moping in the locker room I don't want him around those 2 new pieces.
  12. Bourbon induced post with a touch of homer re: Tuch, but with the numerous "i'm just skating around there" comments, I think at this point he's proven he's not a leader nor a critical piece. Instead he's pulling down his team with his mopey attitude, despite the talent / decent production. Hopefully JBot can leverage the data and get a good return, but won't be shocked if it's underwhelming.
  13. Right and if Oreilly being an emo is the problem, then goodbye. Up thread does a nice job detailing his value stats wise, but let's say he's instead a leader with contagious energy and a positive attitude, how does that impact the team? 10 more goals? 20 more goals? I think we led the league in 1 goal losses. Freaking guy took one penalty all year. What a joke. I watch Vegas and wonder where O'Reilly fits with that group. Also he was trash the 2 games I saw in Buffalo this year, terrible passing through the neutral zone like he didn't gaf. Show me one guy on Las Vegas who doesn't gaf. At this point I'd do O'Reilly for Tuch straight up. I know C vs RW but still.
  14. Goathead years are where all my favorites are too. I'm surprised no love for Barnaby or Warrener thus far. But if I had to pick one it's Mike Robitaille. Never saw him play, but he was instrumental to the broadcast team and brand when my love for the team began in the mid-90s. Hockey Hotline with Brian Blessing, intermission analysis, post-game summary/drama, etc. Great story teller, decent person, seems to love and respect the sport and Buffalo/WNY.
